  1. Here is the valuation from the mid-west auctions and exepcted retail. Market Analysis OCT 11, 2004 Aug. Autotrader is only going to list asking prices.. I agree from selling used vehicles that it is only worth what people are willing to pay. new vehicles are cheap so there is quite a bit of competition. Good Luck.
  2. I had my 2000 LX470 do the same (62K). They replaced the manifold under extended warranty.
  3. Brakes were replaced at 25K and again at 59K. Rotors ground. These trucks are heavy and chew through breaks. I heard the sqeeking when we backed up not when applying them.
  4. To get the warranty from lexus I had to have an "inspection" where they checked everything out for $90 before they would issue the warranty. This was because I did not purchase it from the dealer so they didn't know anything about the vehicle (other than service history). PS. I had the same mirror problem on my truck and the dealer had to replace both mirrors. I had 58K miles on it in January/Feb, it was out of warranty but my service guy called Lexus and they covered the mirrors for me ($1,200), I just paid the labor to install them ($95). I called his manager, the general manager and the owner to praise him for taking the initiative with Lexus for me. I had since purchased the warranty from Lexus and between that and the above service items it has more than paid for itself. Now I don't have to live with anything or worry about what could possibly go wrong next. Peace of mind is worth it. Go get one!
  5. probably worth a try. they will probably want to replace the catalytic converter otherwise. I had a vw w/same issue and garage charged me $19 to remove it from the bottom side. Otherwise $500 to replace the converter (and that was a vw).
  6. I had the ticking/squeeking on my 2000 470 and they replaced the exhaust manifold. I had recently purchased the extended warranty.
  7. Shelly makes good point. I picked up a 2000 w/58K miles for $32K last December. I had the 60K mile service ($1,200) and just put 4 new michilin tires on ($600 from tire rack). I also opted to get an extended warranty from my lexus dealer ($2,200) for 3 years/36K $0 deductible. I took it in for a number of annoyances (that I was living with) about 4 weeks later and it came out with over $1,400 in repairs (passenger side manifold gasket, power antenna, lumbar support unit, cruise control switch and almost 2 weeks in the shop) that didn't cost me a cent. The peace of mind is worth it. Earlier in the year lexus comped me on replacing the mirrors ($1,200) as the passenger side would not return to it's possition. My service guy Scott called Lexus for me and asked them about it since it was just past it's 4 year mark (this was in February). I didn't even buy it from the dealer and they treat me like a king. At this point the warranty has paid for itself. If you replace tires and get them at tire rack have them delivered to the dealer or a service place near you fromthe drop down list (the tires are big!). While my truck was in for the service I ordered the tires and had them install them, I just tossed them in the loaner truck and dropped them off..
  8. Driving the truck and changing the suspension is the best time to try it. I have actively changed the settings to show the difference of being in a Jeep Laredo (firm/sport mode on a bumpy road bouncing all over) or switching to the soft "your in a lexus" mode where bumps disappear. On the highway I go the the softer settings but will switch on the fly during winding roads or entering or leaving the highway on a curvy ramp. It's total personal choice and a nice option. the auto leveling is active no matter what setting you use. It's a great system, enjoy it!
  9. yes, you will find a number of posts on the common issues. grinding stearing wheel, clicking noise from manifold gasket, a transmission failure, etc. I have a 2000 LX470 that I love. I picked up the extended warranty and it has paid for itself in 4 weeks. I still have 3 years and 36K miles left with it. There is no ride like the LX, if budget isn't the final trigger get the LX. I wrote my truck off my small business last year. Net cost was around $20K for a 2000 LX...
  10. The other isse could be level of service. The lexus dealer rolls out the red carpet and a truck is always waiting for me to just drive away with... no hassels. I picked up a Chrysler Crossfire (black) and had to have the window adjusted. Chrysler now gives rental cars for the Crossfire and pacifica but they are throug enterprise rental car. So you have to be take to the rental place and fill out all the information as if you are renting it from an airport... what a hassel not to mention I was stuck with a big bouncy silverado pickup... Service can be cheaper somewhere else but the level of treatment and respect i get form my lexus dealer is 2nd to none.
  11. I picked up a 2000 LX from a lease-end broker as well. My truck had 58K on it. I have done the 60K scheduled maintenance, installed new tires and finally sprung for the extended warranty. I am glad I did, I took it in for some "annoyances" and it turned out to be $3,900 worth of work that was covered! I paid $2,500 for it 4 weeks earlier. I now have piece of mind when driving the vehicle. It is well work the money. Things don't go wrong often but when they do it expensive! Good Luck!
  12. A follow up on my warranty purchase. I took the truck into the dealer as stated above and they ended up replacing the lumbar inflator ($800), replacing the exhaust manifold gasket on the passenger side ($700), replacing the antenna motor ($300), replacing the cruise control switch ($250) and replacing some parts in the stearing wheel ($300). It took almost 2 weeks to get the parts and work completed. They provided me a loaner RX330 (don't have 470 loaners) for the duration. I picked it up today and drove off without paying a cent. My warranty has already paid for itself and I am only 4 weeks into a 3 year 36,000 mile plan. I will plan to sell it before the warranty runs out and give the protection to the next guy. I should probably run off to vegas this weekend...
  13. Get it from lexus, you won't have to worry.. I may have paid a bit more but I know It is there...
  14. I have read that that is the cost. Once the master key is gone they have to repace the computer. Keys are expensive. Everything on this truck is expensive, that's why you don't see yourself coming and going....
  15. I have a 2000 and I just purchased the lexus extended warranty for 3yr/36K miles for $2,500. Before the warranty, I had a problem with my mirror (would not return properly when shifting from reverse) and lexus covered replacing both of them ($1,200) and I had to pay $98 laor. After reading some posts on this site (about the steering wheel, transmissions, head gaskets, etc.) and thinking about all the high tech stuff on these I decided to buy the warranty. It felt great, I suddenly didn't have any worries. The peace of mind was worth it. The truck is in the shop now having a noise in the stearing wheel fixed (it made a chatter/grinding sound upon retraction), the cruise control acted up on a road trip and the lumbar was a bit irratic. It's waiting on parts so I don't know what the total will be yet. The nice thing is it doesn't matter... it under warranty! I will probably sell it before the warranty expires to give someone else the peace of mind of buying a used truck.
  16. I have a 2000 LX470 with 67000 miles and I am considering the extended warranty for 3 years or 36K miles. I had an out of warranty problem with my mirrors that lexus ended up paying for the mirrors ($1,200) and I had to pay labor $95. I hear not much is supposed to go wrong but when it does it's expensive. Has anyone had any good or bad experiences with this? it the lexus gold plan. I have to have it inspected first.
  17. I believe they may be behind the glove box. The manual should show how to full extend it down.
  18. We had a "pulsing" from the breaks when stopping at higher speeds. the the breaks would squeek when backing up. took it in and had to have the rotors ground and breaks replaced. This was the second time the breaks were replaced. We did it at 62K. These are heavy and chew through breaks. If it will save having the rotors ground have the pads changed early..
  19. I had a similar issue where my mirrors would not return to the proper setting when put in reverse. I have a 2000 LX470 w/62K miles. The dealer called Lexus and they covered it under warranty (which this is out of). I just paid $90 labor. I called every manager at the dealership including the owner to tell them how above-and-beyond my service tech went for me. Otherwise it was $1,300 to replace them.
  20. I had the same thing with the pulsing. The dealer performed a full break job regrinding the rotors and replacing the pads. These things eat breaks because they are so heavy. it was around $369 labor and $114 parts for the front and $188 labor and $70 parts for the rear. All is well now.
  21. the manual indicates it should return at 19+ MPH. have it looked at on your next dealer visit.
  22. I just had the same problem with my 2000, they would go down but not back. It was out of warranty due to mileage but my dealer called lexus and they replaced both mirrors ($1,300) and I just paid $94 to have them installed. Lexus knows how to treat their customers and stand by their products. That's why I invested in the LX470..
  23. On our road trips over the hollidays from Milwaukee to DC (12 hours) then back (12) I experimented with the suspension firmness. You can't adjust the height for highway driving (it will return to N above 19MPH). I found that the truck was such a pleasure to drive. I used the softest setting on the long straight roads then switched to firm (sport) in the winding mountain roads. The truck was just awesome in the turns, the settings make a significant difference. You will have fun experimenting with it.
  24. Hey, thanks all for the detailed explanations! very interesting and educational.
