  1. The filter material is very similar to the material used in engine air filters. You could vacuum off some of the surface dirt but you would could not really get the filters clean because the dirt gets embedded in the filter material. Sorry!
  2. The part number for cabin filters for the 1998 LX470 is the same. Two filters are required. I do not know if the procedure is the same but I would think since it uses the same filters that the procedure would be very similar! You can take the glove compartment door off in about 30 seconds. If yours is the same as mine, you will then be able to see the bottom of the filter access door. From that point just move whatever is in the way so that you can remove the filter access door. If you don't see the bottom of the filter access door (one inch wide verticle plastic panel) when you remove the glove compartment, you are on your own! Good Luck!
  3. I just changed the cabin filters on my 2002 LX470 and thought some of you might like to change yours as well. I ordered mine from www.drivewire.com. Cost for two filters was $62.64. Shipping is free. These are the same DENSO filters that Lexus uses. Part number is R2060-138467. Takes about 20 minutes to change the filters. Space is limited so they use two filters and stack one on top of the other. I have 30,000 miles on my LX and the filters were moderately dirty. I have never been off-road or on dirt or gravel roads, so it you have, yours will probably be worse than mine. 1. To prevent the supplemental Restraint System from operating, remove ground cable from the battery, then wait at least 90 seconds before starting this procedure. This allows the backup power system to discharge. 2. Remove two phillips head screws at bottom of glove compartment door and swing door over to left side. It will still be attached to the limiting cable but you will have enough room to work around it. 3. Remove the large plastic panel behind the glove box. One phillips head screw is in the front top left corner of the glove compartment opening, one is in the front top right corner and the third screw is set back about 3 inches from the front and about 1 inch to the left of the latch. You will notice a small 2 x 3 inch panel just to the left of the latch. Pry this panel out carefully and then push it through the opening so that the large panel can be pulled out. You may have to pull the sides of the large panel in slightly to clear the edges of the glove compartment frame. You can swing this panel over to the right. It will still have a cable connected to it but you can work around it. 4. You will now be able to see the filter access cover. It is about 1 inch wide and 5 inches tall. It is held in place by two clips. Release the clips and remove the filter access cover. 5. Now you can see the filters. Grasp the top filter and pull it straight out. Grasp the botton filter, lift it up, and pull it straight out. 6. Put a new filter in and push it down until firmly in place. Slide the new top filter in on top of the bottom filter. There is an arrow on the filters to help you get them in correctly. Make sure the arrows on both filters are pointing up. 7. Put everything back together and pat yourself on the back!
  4. I would like to replace the interior air filters on my 2002 LX470 but I do not know where they are located. I understand that two filters are required and the part number is R2060-138467. Can someone please tell my where these are located? Thanks for your help!
