  1. Welcome to the LOC. Well, to be honest, you have a very broad question here. The major service interval gets expensive. You can take it to a Toyota dealership and save a few bucks there. 68k is not alot of miles for these cars. the 2JZGE 3.0 I6 is one of the best motors Toyota has ever made. So I wouldn't be too concerned with that. But I would look over the tranny fluid, the differential will be needing to be flushed and replaced, power steering fluid and power brake fluid. You'll need to inspect and in my opinion replace the spark plugs at this point. Check over the coolant, but that should be fine. And, something everyone seems to forget about is the ac filter behind the glove box. check that and replace it if it needs. Also, these cars can benefit from a higher flow quality air filter in my opnion. The stock filters just don't flow well for as long as they should. If you want to save some money, change your oil to Amsoil, 5w30 synthetic. ( Amsoil is the only oil in my experience.) So, you have to post pitures of your car. It's like payment for advice. LOL!! We'll need interior and exterior shots.We like to see all the IS 300's out there. So is it a auto or man? are you a keepin it all stock or are you gonna be making it your own?

  3. Yeah, I'm familiar with the shift kits and such. I was just wondering how they would do on these tranny's. I know your on a a different tranny than me. The IS 300 already has the E shift built into the steering wheel. It just doesn't shift at the exact time you push the button. There is about a second of delay. So the reason I asked about your shift kit was to answer my curiosity about maybe what to expect from the e shift on the car now after the tranny rebuild. It just kinda sucks because I like how smooth the tranny shifts now. And I know that won't be like that after the tranny comes back. So I keep going back to the manual swap and just figuring it out. I'm in no big hurry. Who knows, if I drag my feet, procrastinate, hum and haw, maybe I'll have saved enouph cash to do what I want. It's only money right? I mean Mercedes and BMW have smooth shifting power house trannies with 5 and 6 speed gearing. Why can't I have that on my Lexus??? I know, I know..I'm just doing a little sniveling... LOL!!!
  4. I know, 10k for the Getrag swap. I did the math this afternoon.....6 speed manual tranny holds a 1000+ hp, with the upgraded clutch kit. Theres an 03' IS300 with that tranny swap done on it, and is that the Tacoma drive shaft fit in there? Looks the same and about right. Same slip joint anyway, but we didn't do the work. Soemone else did, and when he brought it in, they noticed his problem was that the motor and tranny wasn't put on the mounts correctly. So nothing was lining up the way it was supposed to. The shifter was hitting the edge of the column and he was scaring it up trying to jam it into reverse. Ok, so I'll do the auto tran. bullet proofing. and then save my pennys and do the getrag swap later. When are you getting that shift kit? let me know how that works out. I guess I'll make some calls tomarrow, and get a pallet ready. I'm gonna try to buy that wind up so I can get back and fourth to the shop. Then I'll pull the tranny out and ship it to where ever it is I end up going with. Oh, and Jibby, the shift issues your having. When you sent the tranny out to do the upgrade, your sure they changed and upgraded the sprags? I've heard alot of places are notorious for not doing that unless they know your gonna check. I heard Level 10 is a good place, but I called them and they wanted 4400 for the rebuild, and a grand for the custom tc. The tc I don't have a problem with, but 4400??? seems way high. So I'll call PFS and see what they charge. I heard they are the only ones that mill it also. I guess it keeps the shifts smoother. I'll find out more when I talk to them. Transmissions....why couldn't they be like GM???????
  5. You may have experienced a boost spike when you hit 16 psi. If you set the controller lower, which means quicker spool up times, too close together and you get boost spikes. So, 16 psi. may not be the actual boost setting on the turbo. You'll have to take the car in to a tuner to set up the wastegate, blow off valve and set the timing and af for 16 psi. Unless the car was already set up for 16 psi. which in that case, you may have an issue with the turbo or blow off valve setting. One other thing I can think of, do you have a dual controller? Like I have the Greddy, I have low boost set to 6 psi and high boost set to 10 psi. So if it's a dual, you might have it set to low boost and need to switch it to high boost.
  6. Mad Max is an awsome movie!!!!!!!! One of the best low budget films ever. And while the child in me has often romanced the life in a time like that, and being a gun slinging drifter with a turbo charged V8, ( OH YEAH!!), I don't think it can be modeled for what life would be like, or compared to helping the hungry. Personally, I think if the rich could figure out a way to make money on housing the homeless, and feeding the hungry, then those issues wouldn't be issues,but thriving businesses traded on Wall street. I mean come on, 40 bucks a ticket to see a basketball game, athletes are earning incredible saleries, movie stars.......movie stars, who act!!! mind you, not cure disease, or better our society, earn and even dictate trends and fashions and millions of dollars, billions collectively, all on,,,,,entertainment. How much more backwards can we get???? I say, actors can only make 500,000 dollars a year. Athletes 1 million. And the movie companies and sport associations can only take a % of all earnings, the rest goes into a community improvement program. And look, I'm sort of spouting off here. I don't have all the details worked out, but I do know that in my Utopia, there would be no homeless or hungry, and there would be much fewer filthy stinking, completely unnesaccarily rich people also. Even in Star Wars they speak of balance in the force. LOL!!! I saw a bumper sticker once that said " Wouldn't it be a great day when all the schools were run properly, and the children had all their books, and the Military needed to have a bake sale to buy a bomb."

Yeah, I've been look at the sprag upgrade, clutch packs and valve bodies, boost the pressure etc. etc. But what concerns me is that I'm at the breaking limit now even with a full auto tranny pro. build. When I talked to them and they heard that the car was making almost 500 ft. lbs. tq. I could hear the concern come out. Very close to the limit. Even when they say 500-600 hp, I think the 600 number is optimistic and grey. I don't want to have to deal with this again. 3 things you have to get right, motor, drivetrain, and suspension. The rest is cake. I am warming up to the manual tranny idea. I got under the car and took a look. It doesn't seem that the manual swap looks that hard. I may have to custom make a support, but that's fun stuff !!! Are the manual tranny options direct bolt ups? So, I looked at a Getrag V160, for 4400.00 brand new( OUCH!!! looking for used now.), plus ugrading the clutch, flywheel, custom drive shaft, and regear or change the rearend. Man, sounds like alot of work!!! Looks like no matter what direction I go, unless I keep the stock tranny, I'm customizing the drive shaft and changing the rearend out, or atleast regearing it. Which to be honest, I wouldn't mind that anyway as first gear is almost useless anyway. ( Side note, second gear is starting to slip already, and I have only opened it up once since the install. So Iv'e been staying in vacuume until I figure out what I'm gonna do now. I have a line on a small 98' Toyota Carolla for 1200 bucks, still blows cold air. I might get that and then garage the beast so I can work on it from here on out. The van just cost too much in gas to drive back and fourth.) As I'm writing this, I'm thinking that the tranny build is only a temp answer. I know I'm gonna open the motor and upgrade all the internals later, then port and polish. So the hp is only gonna go up some more later. So, Jibby, buddy, pal, got any trannies laying around that fit my bill?
  9. The airbag system is connected and works with the seatbelts. So there must be an issue with the sensor connection of the new seatbelt. Did you make sure the connections were made and are secure? It's a diagnostic warning that is coming on not a DTC code. So there is no need to reset it, as soon as you address the issue, the light will go out, but if the seatbelt isn't correctly installed, the light will just keep coming back on.

  12. It's starting to look like an auto to manual tranny swap may be in my future. I was thinking of sending the tranny to PFS for upgrading the valves, clutch packs and etc. etc., but then I start thinking maybe just do the swap before the tranny pops and sell it to recoupe some cash. I'd like to stay with the auto, but that doesn't look promising. The TH400?, the T56?, does anyone know of a bolt up auto trans that will hold 600+ torque?

  15. Jibby!!!, My bro!! Thanks man. I could use some help with the tranny. I've been calling around to my local suppliers. And it seems that this isn't going to be an easy fix. ( Is there such a thing?) I have some "I'll call you backs." but nothing solid yet.

For the main dish, I think Veal Chop Milanesa Ala Casa Bella with a side of Spinach sautee. The wine I think, Ruffino Reserva Decule, and for dessert,, A Banana's Foster Ala mode. OOOOOOOOOOooooooo i wanna do this... but blue..... hard???????? oooooo yes blue..... i want i want... i was just talking yesterday about how the dash colors are !Removed!.... yes i'm so doing this.... well after you tell me how of course ;) lol Well, it's alot of time consuming work, in that you basically have to pull the whole dash apart. To do the speedo looks easy enouph, but the rest of the cluster and the center console are what make it alot tougher. When I get to this mod, I will be sure to keep you informed. I originally found out that there were some issues with the led conversions. Apparently different colors require different line resistors or you end up just burning them out. But I think they've had enouph time to figure it out now.

So, I've been browsing thru my catalogs, and I have decided what is yet to come. 1) Start looking into the tranny upgrade and drive train. 2) Get a carbon fiber hood, and trunk. 3) body kit, or race lip extensions 4) rear window hood 5) debadge the car. 6) darker tint ( Maybe) 7) address what I'm going to do with the rear tail lights as the tint covers didn't work. 8) Add push button ignition switch. 9) get the dash LED's converted to white. 10) add front strut tower and rear chassis brace. Now this is my basic plan layout. As i come to each desicion I will do all the research and find the right deal for me along with the right look I want. So, if anyone has ideas and weblinks to cool parts and good pricing and all that, suggestions or just feed back, I'd love to hear it. I hope everyone sees this thread as a open garage where you can feel free to come in and contribute. I hope this thread will be around for a long time, because as much I like the help, offered opinions, and direction, I also hope it's helping you see the process and answer questions you may have. So, again, thanks to everyone for making this thread, and the LOC a great place to talk about our rides.   23. As I can't hold a camera and drive at the same time, Later, I have a buddy who is going to sit there and hold the vid while we go. we just have to coordinate our time. Plus I have to get a youtube or cartopia so I can upload the videos and post the links.
