  1. you said u had O/D off!?!? why do you think it was redlining. with the overdrive off it will not shift into 4th gear, or (overdrive), or the final gear, it was stuck in 3rd
  2. PM 99lsguy. he could probably tell you the options. or actually just wait it out and he'll probably reply
  3. I also agree with the above posts. another way is to check in your owners manual it has the diagram to tell you where the fluid levels should be in reference to the engine being hot or cold.
  4. just take some time and read through the forum. you will find answers to most all of your questions, as they have been discussed many times.
  5. try meguires vinyl and rubber protectant. its low gloss
  6. weapon. ha ha. yeah anything that spares me a little elbow grease is always welcome. about the plastic piece, i've never really polished that, just cleaned it. but it is kinda foggy now that i think about it i know i keep saying meguires scratch X, i don't know why i keep pushing that product, cause its not that great. but i use it spareingly on the wood around the shifter and buff it out. it works on the hairline scratches for sure, i also have used it on the windshield glass, for the small scratches, it works. but really it just deadends the scratches a little, so they arent' so noticeable, but what i've found is the scratches come back, so you have to apply frequently.
  7. i was detailing my car last weekend, and stumbled upon an idea for cleaning the little spaces in the head unit and console around shifter, as well as vents and door controls. I used the compressed air cans that they sell at places like office depot and such to clean computer keyboards. man it worked great. I just sprayed it in the hard to clean cracks ect... and it blew all the debris right out. it made life a lot easier for sure. Just thought i would let ya know about my little find.
  8. no prob. i just thought you were asking the same question again. the dist. is located on either side of the front part of the engine it is covered by a black protective cap. inside is the dist. cap that the spark plug wires connect to the points. the other end of the spark plug wires goes to the plug . the rotors are located under the dist cap. and i would recomend you change all of those. its very simple, sorry i don't have any pics to further help you.
  9. ok, this is getting a little redundant, we said try to give it a tune up, once again plugs, wires, dist. cap, rotors, air filter and go from there, if not try fuel filter, and so on. your either just going to have to trouble shoot with the ideas we have given you or taken in to an expert mechanic.
  10. 60,000 miles on a 92?!?! wow!! sweet find
  11. the red fluid is ATF probably leaking from the powersteering pump, id get that looked at so you don't have to buy a new alternator too.
  12. i had those exact wheels on my 92, and they were doing the exact same thing yours are, (paint chipping) i called on places that refinished wheels and unfortunately they quoted me a really expensive price, so i said the heck with it and i bought new wheels, i currently am running OEM 99 LS 400 wheels, and i love em. makes the car look a lot more up to date, if u know what i mean. but as far as getting them refinished it would be just the same to buy a new wheel or wheels
  13. looks like its finally time to get our portalcable orbital polisher. ha ha. try some meguires scratch X, its not that powerful but i used it last weekend on some light scratches before i waxed her and it works great, it just doesnt' work on any type of deep scratch at all
  14. i calculated my gas mileage on the last tank at about 475 miles, which is about 23-24 miles to the gallon on Exxon 93, thats city and freeway. 300 miles is awful low. like you said its very likely you need a tune up. also check your air filter. mainly, the car will drive itself once you get going, i guess some people can milk gas a little better than others. about the leak, it just depends on where it is. yes power steering pump leak is a common leak. you would want to check that b/c if its leaking on your alternator it will fry it out. also there could be a valve gasket leak, just depends on where the leak is in the engine ie..front/back. if you take a flashlight and look around under there i'm sure you can troubleshoot and find where the leak is, and go from there. it could be a just a minor leak, but if you said that it was really wet i would try and find out imediately. hope this helps a little.
  15. Thanks 99, Its people like you who make the LOC so great. My Thanks.
  16. Hey fellas. I am in search of a DIY tutorial about front brake caliper replacement. One of the pistons in my front right brake is sticking, and eventually will lock up. So i would like to nip it in the butt, b/f all hell breaks loose on the right side. ha ha if any of you have or know where to locate this DIY procedure i would greatly appreciate it. Pics would be a great help too. Thanks guys.
  17. sounds like you have a bad plug if its misfiring. its probably not getting a good enough spark in one of the cylinders. try replacing your plugs. if that doesn't work you need to look at changing, plug wires, distributor cap, make sure all vaccum hoses are on correctly. but it definately sounds like something in the ingnition. good luck
  18. hey 99. i did the cleaning about 2 weeks ago. and i used the STP fuel injection/throttle body cleaner, i got it at auto zone for i thing 2.99. it worked great. just sprayed and scrubbed with a tooth brush numerous times, then cleaned and dried with an old clean cloth.
  19. wow, that is very poor gas mileage. i wander what the culprit is. i just calucalated my gas mileage after my throttle body cleaning on a full tank and when the gas light came on i had already gotten 460 miles on that one tank of Exxon 93 octane. probably could have got a little better also, because i gave her hell a couple of times merging onto the bypass to check the throttle response after the cleaning of the throttle body. i could tell a HUGE difference. good luck guys
  20. i agree with VMF. do a tune up. give her a new air filter and throttle body cleaning, along with some new plugs and wires, see if that helps. also always run premium fuel that will give u a little better gas mileage too.
  21. to replace just the bulbs. u need to take out a few screws from the side marker houseing and remove that, then go in on the side of the car where u removed the side marker lens. pry down the plastic clip on the wiring harness and pull out the electrical plug. then reach in there and turn the plastic retainer holding the plug in place counter clockwise, after the retainer is removed just pull the bulb straight out and replace. it takes a little time and its a tight fit for your hands , but just be patient and you'll get it.
  22. I was also skeptical of lexol products. but i had a nice weekend to try it out and i did. i thoroghly cleaned the leather with it, and i was amazed at how clean it got my leather, it totally lightened the leather a couple of shades back to new color. i then applied the conditioner about 3-4 times, vigorously rubbing it in all over. i let it dry for a couple of hours and man i couldn't believe how good it worked, my leather seemed to mold to my butt in the chair, it was awesome, so much softer than before. and after a day of baking in the sun the conditioner was completly absorbed and dried, it was really worth it, it did wonders. about where to find it, i got my spray bottles at pep boys for about 8-9 dollars a piece, but u can find the bigger containers cheaper on ebay if u want to go that route.
  23. this has been posted and discussed many many times. just do a search at the bottom of the page with the key word, hid, or headlight bulbs, key words of that nature and u will find a lot of posts.
  24. well i don't believe its really that normal, i'm not so sure about the 98ls but i'm sure 99lsguy can tell you. i have a 92 and it makes no sounds whatsover, some creaking suspension when its really cold but thats it. good luck
