  1. so i may need to remove the climate control and radio to get access to the back where the wiring harness might be the other day i managed to remove the kick panel cover, steering wheel covers, ignition cover but could not find the wire does anybody know where the wire should come from? and where i should reach to find. remove the dashboard facing isnt an enjoyable job to me :)
  2. my 1990 ls400 came with a black out illuminated ignition. i follow the tutor at: http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/lighting/ignition.html but the bad thing is that the bulb and the wire have gone. I cant find it any more. i guess i need to rewire a new one but have no idea of where i would get the positive and negative from. i guess the ignition will be illuminated only when the (driver) door has been unlocked as it should not be on all the time thanks for any help
  3. thanks 92Lex, that link works fine happened to know you wrote a lot of diy tutorials about ls400. great help for people like me thanks a lot
  4. pix arent shown. do the links die? 92lex: i am going to change the coolant, please help to take a look at the links thanks
  5. when doing the sealing for your valve cover, check the PCV valve as well to make sure it is not stuck close resulting in unnecessary high pressure inside the engine that may lead to oil leaking
  6. i notice that my engine cover has a Toyota badge (and the wording Toyota) instead of Lexus? is there something misplaced? :(
  7. Hi Glenmore, $240.92 is for the damper, strut bar cushion is $145 each i cant find the damper in IronToad, could you please give me a link thanks
  8. i notice that the engine gets very noisy when turning on the air con. sounds like a faulty bearing. i am not sure if it is really the compressor which makes the noise or other running parts i.e. alternator, drive belt tensioner... on heavy load is there a tricky thing here to identify?
  9. thanks Baja, got an advise eventually :-) just an update of self-thinking: i read over and over the error code reading procedure, flashing pattern... maybe ECU stores 2 error codes with a 1.5 seconds pause in between which i may not recognize at first reads. btw, a long pause of 4.5 seconds will present to indicate the flashing cycle repeats. this may be where i missed the short pause of 1.5 secs between errors. Now, refering to diagnostic code chart, there are several codes meet the parttens (5 and 6 flashes with 1.5 sec pause in between) here are the possibilities: - code 14 and 15: both refer to Ignition signal circuit - code 41 and 24 or 51: 41=Throttle position sensor; 24=Intake air temp sensor; 51=switch condition signal circuit based on these, i can narrow down the issue area of course, bring it to dealership isnt a problem, but understanding the car is what i am looking for. also, i am thinking of making a video clip of the flashing pattern and post it here. that may help
  10. most likely you've got some water leaking into electrical component. you may want to get your car thoroughly checked by a dealer you may also want to do a quick check to see if somewhere inside the car gets wet. likelyhood of leaking are: - trunk lid: check the wheel well and CD changer area - doors: check inside doors by removing the panels, starting from driver's door as there are many electrical stuff inside
  11. no its not $120, the dealer says they have it out of stock but can order from somewhere for me at $240.92. would I cancel the order now? have no chance to test if the part is faulty unfortunately, it was removed by the ex-owner (or someone) I find the steering so responsive that i can use a finger to steer when the car is in P. at over 50 mph, steering wheel becomes even more responsive, i feel it unsafe
  12. from my experience, temp gauge needle points middle is normal, something's just gone wrong if engine is either too hot (of course) or too cool one thing, the combination meter on my 1990 LS400 looks different from yours. temp gauge is on the left and fuel gauge is on the right but your pix shows the reversed order. anybody know why?
  13. could anyone please advise what can be tried? or where i can get help from thanks
  14. thanks guys for great help i 've got a site offering what i want however a bit pricy: www.parkplaceplanoparts.com
  15. Hello Zoso, your thread was a year ago or so, but i hope you are still around the 4fum :-) my steering damper was missing (it wasnt installed on my car before i was its owner) i got a quote from www.parkplaceplanoparts.com, but seem very pricy at US$240.92 as they get to order somewhere for me. compared to $130 you got, the margin seems enough to kill do you remember where you got it? thanks for any help
  16. Hi all, i am searching for: 1- Strut Bar Cushion 2- Steering Damper have done a lot of search on google, but cant find (in US) can anyone please help? Thanks a lot
  17. Hi all, my 1990 LS400 got check engine light on. with key in on position, I connect TE1 and E1 then get the following: flash 5 times, a short pause, flash 6 times, a long pause then it keeps repeating over and over again the same patern (flash 5 times, a short pause, flash 6 times, a long pause) i think ECU gives me error code 56 (!?) however, in the service manual, there isnt any error code number 56. Also, i did try clearing the code by removing EFI fuse for a few minutes and put it back on, then driving the car for several km. re-read the ECU error code, got the same flashing patern described above any help?
  18. thanks a lot nc211 it is 1995 model but looks the same as 1990 LS400, will give it a try this weekend
  19. mine has gone too before i started being the owner. its cheap here (VN) to get the undercover made by a local bodyshop (of course made by metal, not plastic) am just wondering if it is really beneficial to have the new undercover?? will it really reduce some road noise beside its known purpose of engine dust protection. anybody and prove it?
  20. poor you! there should be a fuse somewhere that can be taken out without cutting a wire
  21. my 1990 LS400 got that same issue, sometimes nicely retracks and goes up upon key removal, then returns properly on key insert. But most of the time, it wont work as expected. seems like it gets sticky at some wheel angles also, i need to hit the adjust button many times to set the wheel thank you for posting the tsb here
  22. anybody can suggest something?
