93, Like Denny, I believe the Throttle Body Clean will only take 1-2 hours - and is a great oppurtunity to "clean" the entire engine at the same time :D A great learning experience for sure!! Follow Curt's step by step and should be no problem. mine is 99 LS but should be basically the same procedure..... The "key" for most any project like this is "organizing" the way you dissasemble the components - make separate areas and keep the bolts, washers, parts, etc together for each component and you're in good shape :D 99

93LS, I've never used any fuel additives but I think they can help (a little).... A product called BG44 ? is a fuel injector cleaner and has reported minor success stories. It also claims to help clean the throttle body too! This is on my list for maintenence work this summer (throttle body cleaning) :D Overall, I'm not a big fan of any of these sorts of things....but if I hear different, I would certainly follow the reccomendations of our knowledgable LOC members :D 99

I agree with the RL vs LS400 with SWO....not close. The LS is just too much car! The TL is only "fractionally" smaller, with better features and $10k Less. The Acura people admit the TL outsells the RL by 8 to 1 because of this..... I looked at lots of cars, trying to see what was close to the LS. Test drove a 99 RL (in great shape) but it wasn't a LS by any stretch of the imagination. The 99 RL was priced @ $21500, I got the 99 LS for $23500. Both had 50K miles so just out of "full Warranty coverage". I think I got the best deal :D The depreciation "factor" had shrunk a $57K auto to within $2K of an $43K auto within four years....the only good thing about depreciation 99

Oh I agree completely........about the oil :D I was actually referencing how Toyota and Lexus DO NOT EVEN USE a Toyota Brand motor oil <_< All these brands seem VERY REGIONAL to me B) I use Amsoil Syn but would consider Mobil One Syn once I finish the Case I've got!' 99

One pair of Oakleys' and couple pair of EL CHEAPOS I rotate them around a lot :D

Hey guys, I mentioned this on one post and "mapman" graciously gave his opinion... I thought a separate post would get more action :D A neighbor of mine has a mid 90's Q45 for at least 6 years now so I was wondering about pros/cons compared to the LS. This can be any year; New/used; how do they stack up? I looked at the Q because they were considerable cheaper and Depreciate more heavily than the LS = making it a pretty good buy, I thought. The biggest downer for me was the extremely poor interior space (no legroom) until they upgraded the Q45 around 2001 or so. Now, I imagine its a formible competitor to the LS? The engine has always had more HP, Torque. How's the tranny, the ride, etc... Thanks fellas... 99

Blake, I always used Pennzoil in my hondas, acuras with good results. 5-30 is the correct weight. See if your Local Toyota Shop uses their brand (like Monarch) and what weight (since you live in subtropical )! My local Toyota Shop uses Castrol (I use full synthetic in the Sequoia), and local Lexus dealer uses Quaker State. I would keep using the dino oil also Monarch, you consistently recommend the local Toyota oil because you've had such good success with it??....(400,000 miles on one of your vehicles :D ) 99

Yes..... It's going to be 70 degrees :D althought windy, a golfers worst natural enemy <_< We've got a group of regulars to play on Friday's; had it for many years. Lot of fun, we all shoot about 80 - and leave the weekends for our families & of course, the LS :D Your Caprice looks like a smooth Cruiser...more room than the LS?? -
I'm going to come up with a design.... My MODIFICATION will be on the inside At least the Gen III's will hold a 12 oz can!! 99

Your are absolutely right Denny :D Silver, I'm expecting a "killer" polish job from you this weekend Take Care guys! I've got some golfing tomorrow :D 99 -
gthmcty, I've always been curious about the Q45: great engine, but don't know much else. I would have pursued a Q also but they had NO LEGROOM until the model change in 01 or so; didn't want that new of a car..... If you could list the pros/deficiencies of the Q45 compared to the LS400 I'd appreciate it. This is a great club; professional and courteous - the way we should all be :D 99

That's a 98+ model LS..... No Antenna - built into the back glass :D Maybe that was my 99LS on the way to the Lexus Auction?? :whistles: 99

I'll be on this by the Weekend.. My wife's got the LS up at the airport for a few days... I needed the Sequoia for some "large" object hauling Plus and oil change & inspection I miss my LS.... :( Looking forward to it... 99

It looks to me like the suspension has been modified or something...rides very high; although could just be the pic <_< Aftermarket wheels for sure... If serviced @ Lexus, the Vin # should have a long list. A detailed one owner will have the original sticker in the glovebox.

I saw those seats before & after......wow! I used those mr. clean pads too and they work great - but I'd never imagine they'd clean up those seats the way yours did ;; amazing :D I think the more you detail the car, the better the finish will get :D Pretty soon up close will = GOOD TOO!! 99 -
Blake, Ok. ok.... I'll post some pics (probably Sunday Afternoon) of the garage.. It's got a lot of stuff in it - don't they all :D

Blake, I'm smiling all the way :D :D :D Looks really good - The paint looks glossy, your rear/front pass. seats are good - very impressive! The LS just needed some TLC to bring out her true colors I use the CWB too....easy to dry with a single towel after that tool!! What are your feelings on the paint/finish? Did you use an orbital? Be proud and sleep well, you did a great job 99 -
Kubys, All the stuff VMF has in PDF.... cip0420p.pdf

Kuby's, Here's a diagram of their locations: I think I can find what VMF gave you in one file for conveinience (sp)... comp.pdf

That could be the infamous "air control valve" malfunctioning. It used vaccum from the engine to assist steering at low rpms..... Have you checked your serpentine belt for tension and wear? - a possiblity....
-
lol silvermate I think the same way...looks like we'll have good weather this weekend in the Midwest so I'll be watching... :D Good Luck! you'll do a great job!!!! 99
-
There it is :D I've got it saved to my 'Favorites' folder - now I know how to find it!! 99

You know, I partially bought the big LS because it is a solid, safe car - with our family in mind too...-- glad it proved out!!! About the leak, two thoughts: 1) Even though the tips are broken,, you've got perfectly functioning PS so that's a vote to leave it alone. Yeah, connect the vacuum tubes and run it till it gives you a more substantial problem..Probably my vote. You know what's wrong and how to fix it if it ever really goes bad :D 2) Check and see if that leak is getting into your Alternator.... if it is, it will eventually ruin it. (But maybe its just a tiny leak, as you say, the PS level is full). It may be leaking only at the base of this air control valve, along the gasket seal - and dripping off the bottom: so know biggee there. There's a picture in the LS gallery of a "home made" plastic shield over the alternator to prevent the PS fluid from ruining the Alt. It's probably somewhere in the middle of the file....just keep fllipping thru and you'll find it. Maybe you can create some sort of cover, just try to deflect that fluid away from the Alternator.. 99

Kubys, Sorry I left you hangin there...did VMF fix you up? Let me know if I can be of further help.... 99

My personal opinion... I would not use any water. WD-40, rags, Armor All for the plastic stuff, Simple Green, and also some type of "Orange" cleaner too. Spray down,,wipe, repeat..... Put the TV out in the garage (like VBDenny = a great procedure ), watch the NCAA tourney, and spend a few hours getting to know all about the 1UZ-FE engine :D 99
