  2. I agree K9, I loved the body & interior style, wanted the legroom for me AND the rear passengers, silky smooth ride, powerful & silent engine, and.... a little prestige I suppose. Edmunds.com says a great line about the LS: "CONS: After one trip through the twisties, you won't mistake it for the Ultimate Driving Machine" :D
  3. Are you guys saying the this "wire" fixes the Jerk in the Transmission...... I can see how it fixes the Dash Lights..... So a malfunction of an electrical "idiot light" (nothing personal to anyone, I mean that) causes the transmission to go haywire?????????????????????????????????? I need an explantion..................... 99
  4. Steve, Tell me there's a TSB on this or something like ...."just walk in to the dealer and they'll replace it free" Mine is fine...for now ;)
  5. Most guys will go to Autozone to get the codes read.....if you think it's drivable? They say it's free! Post the codes and you'll find pinpoint help. Good luck!
  6. have you checked your transmission fluid lately?
  7. Hey guys, I like to find out who's online a lot.....to get some timely Q&A going for efficiency. I have found out that there are easily as many guests (and usually around twice) as regular members viewing the forums. Just wondering who's watching? I assume there's a good percentage of : Lexus dealers, Lexus corporate, competitors, sponsors, and such.
  8. Here's what the LS website says: Platinum Series - In-dash, six-disc CD auto-changer - Bird's-eye maple interior trim - Uniquely textured Royale leather trim on center section of seats - Power tilt-and-slide moonroof - Bird's-eye maple - trimmed steering wheel - High-Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps with dynamic auto leveling - 16-inch, dish-type alloy wheels - Black Pearl badging - Embroidered floor mats - Complimentary annual fee for American Express Platinum Card® for two years Nice of Lexus to pick up the AMEX fee 99 PS. Congrats on the purchase.....a beautiful machine! Let us know where you got it, any details, any pics too! Welcome to LOC :D
  9. Those just look like scratches to me........ ;) Check on ebay first to see if there are replacement parts........They should be cheap . My guess is $20. For that, I'd give 'er a try anyway ;)
  10. I'd say that's pretty acceptable maintainence....... nine years and 225K miles before changing ingnition components! :D Let us know Blake! 99
  11. I've ask local shops in KC about refinishing wheels... Price is $100-125 per wheel. they will refurbish to NEW condition including clear coat....
  12. oh yeah, I forgot about that Scratch X.....I've got some. I'll try a little hand buffing with it. So ......do the pros use the orbital to buff the wax off? 99
  13. And here's the components.. Notice the adjustment washers above the center crossmember. Check them too! comp.pdf
  14. The propeller shaft...ie drive shaft could have worn bushings also. Here's the troubleshoot for it...... pst.pdf
  15. It's a lot of fun to help! I've been helped a ton (including you) by many and I am also grateful :D We're just crazy aren't we Here's the complete component diagram for the 99.... comp.pdf
  16. You should find a sticker under the hood (somewhere) if the timing belt was replaced. Get you VIN # and run a check thru a local Lexus dealer...if the car was serviced by Lexus, they'll tell you all the history. My 99LS idles @ 750-800 rpms in Park. I can hear it then a little. When I'm cruising on the road I don't hear it at all. At a stop light, (with brakes on when car is on idle and in Drive, I don't hear it at all either....my RPM's drop to about 600 with brake on in Drive. 99
  17. cool find Craig! I didn't know you gen I guys had the "hydraulic slide" ashtrays? Heck,, I don't even know if mine are that way..I just thought they were "spongy and cool" I've read articles claiming the 1uzfe engine could withstand 2,000 HP! and it was made to deliver and average of 400K miles...... If we could just keep all these other parts from wearing out......... :D 99
  18. That exhaust leak could mean malfunctioning O2 sensor - which could be causing all this madness. There was a thread on this O2 problem not long ago............ But...that would have a code too <_< If you've replaced the air filter, or even if you haven't yet, check up in the MAF area and see if it's clear..........
  19. Pachocco1, Is this what your talking about? (This is 99 LS manual - but could be similar?) Man, I wouldn't think there should be any play in them <_< repl.pdf
  20. Yesterday; I was checking things out under the hood in my garage - admiring the mighty V8. It was very windy and a gust blew a 1x6 rough cedar board that was leaning against the wall over onto the LS. It hit right about the Fuel Lid, then slid backwards along the rear quarterpanel as it fell over. The 1x6 is only about 5 feet long, and is very light. I only see "dull" marks on the finish as it traveled along the panel. No deep scratches, thankfully - and looks like I could just wash the area and then rewax with the collinite. ( I put two coats on her over New Years) :D Just wanted to get some expert opinions on the best treatment - thanks! It really does look minor and easily fixable. My LS is Mystic Gold........ 99
  21. 1990LS400 had this link earlier, He's taken his apart several times.... http://www.carstereohelp.com/stereoremovalLexusLS400str.htm
  22. It's the electronic manual on CD. Great Electronics section too. I've got the Real Deal Book (vol 2) also.
  23. I thought CV boots were only on FWD cars......... But you are correct, UCF3, the "clunk" while turninig is a classice sign of worn CV Joints. My old Honda's always needed new ones @ 150K 99
  24. No, no Sunocos here. Texaco, Phillips 66, Amoco (now moving to BP) But most of us buy gas @ QUICKTRIP. I actually go to COSTCO ; usually 5-10 cents cheaper. Right now 91 premium is about 1.69/gal.. 93 would be nice :D
  25. Tried to upload the entire component assembly.....but its 101KB, just barely over the limit. So - here's the trouble shooting symptoms table: pst.pdf
