  1. 93 GS300 as well as my friends 2000 4Runner... ECT PWR simply holds out on shifting up a wee bit longer. It makes no difference if you're simply flooring it. Then it will just shift at the redline no matter what mode you're in. I don't have one of those fancy auto/manual trannys, so that's why I specified the cars.
  2. If I find myself sitting on $1 Million of spare change one day, I might buy a Buggati Veyron though
  3. I'm so satisfied, not only compared to other cars, but as a car in general, that I will only be buying Lexus from now on. Period.
  4. Those are some mean lookin' rims and tyres! Good choice.
  5. Use Hide Food for the leather... it works great for me. Get it at a Jaguar, Land Rover or Bently dealership. A couple of people use cocoa butter, and they swear by it. I don't use it though, since I already have the hide food. If you want to clean the leather (hide food is a conditioner, really) then you can use a product called Lexol. I have also heard of using 3 parts water with 1 part woolite as a cheap substitute. Hope that helps.
  6. My general advice is that spoilers don't look pimp at all... They often look silly. Some people on the forum have done some nice, tasteful spoiler/body kits. That's fine, but please don't ruin a beautiful car with a 5' tall bookshelf wing. Just my opinion. As for the rims, check the gallery. There are some excellent choices there.
  7. My friend and I used the Meguiars 3 step system on our cars. Me on my dark green GS300 and him on his black ES300. What we noticed when we were done was that the swirl marks were still there, and that's why we used the system in the first place. Should this whole system not have removed at least some of these ugly marks?
  8. If you're not in gbuchanan's area, just drive to your local autoshop and ask them for a name of a place that will refinish wheels. Maybe try an autobody place too. He's right about the price too. $100 is what we charge in my old shop. Expect to pay around that much. Good luck.
  9. Sorry, I didn't realize your problem was that severe. "Slow acceleration" doesn't sound that serious. It could be a vacuum problem, yes. It could also be a bad ground. I had that problem on my BMW (Come to think of it, my BMW had a lot of problems). So check out your grounds. Maybe you're not getting juice to the fuel pump until everything is nice and warm and purring. I'll put my money on the vacuum hoses though. Good luck.
  10. The engine isn't warmed up yet and simply isn't performing the way it was designed to. I don't see a problem. I own the exact same car. Also, it doesn't have ultra-fast acceleration at any time. It's a heavy car.
  11. Try to tinker with the lumbar support... I can't accept that the seats are that dramatically different between models. Hope your back gets better.
  12. Having owned both a BMW and Lexus, I can tell you that Lexus is the way to go for several reasons: 1. You spoke about service. Lexus service is like nothing I have ever seen! BMW service is good, but can't compare. 2. Ultimately, a Lexus is a Toyota. We're talking ultra-high quality here. BMW's have always given me trouble, and they cost more to repair on top of it all! 3. Price. You'll get more from a GS than you will for the same money into a 5-Series. The BMW may offer a sportier ride out of the box, but that's not to say the Lexus can't achieve the same level of performance with a little tweaking. In my old job, I got to road test just about every car you can think of. My favs were and still are the Lexus. I'll never go to anything else in the foreseeable future.
  13. If you don't know what you're doing with brakes, take it in to get services in a real shop. They stop they car - very important. You don't have to shell out for Lexus service on this one. Any small private shop you trust will do just fine. Good luck.
  14. 8 engines in 3 years? That's awful. We've never had mishaps that bad in my shop ever and we're a full-service shop doing everything from oil changes to complete overhauls. Worst thing that ever happened since I've been there was a kid closed a hood with a nice, big tool still inside. What a terrible noise that made.
  15. K&N is for air filters... if you need a new air filter, go ahead and put in a K&N. As for oil filters, there's not really a big difference between brands, as far as I'm concerned. I use Mobil 1 oil. So do others. It works. :)
  16. I just got a whopping speeding ticket and I'm not pleased. I was passing a guy at and I drove right into a speed trap. The cop came up and said "this is going to be an expensive weekend for you." I bet he thought that was hilarious. Anyway, I am looking for some preventative advice for the future in the way of radar detectors... What is the absolute best, without dispute? Also, what are some clever ways to install/conceal it? Thanks in advance.
  17. I'm not certain on this: If your deck has control for a CD changer then you should be able to just plug in a Lexus changer and have it work. As for aftermarket changers - no, you're mostly out of luck. From what I hear, to use an aftermarket deck is a big pain and never worth it. Good luck.
  18. So maybe they did remove the button on the newer ones... I'm in no position to say. All I know is that on my GS300 there is a button right beside the stalk that controls the power tilt/telecoping that says auto. With that button out, the steering wheel stays down when you remove the key.
  19. I've heard of using what's called a handshake device to get around this so you can use an aftermarket changer... Something to look into.
  20. Yeah, on my black BMW that I took through a carwash that wasn't touchless I ended up with long scratch lines up the hood from those roller-dryer things. If I wasn't about to get it painted I would have been very angry.
  21. Hey, I have a '93. Can you tell me where you got that grille and any other snazzy accessories?
  22. plastics? Could you explain what that means, exactly? Hmm... Maybe I should ask in a new thread.
  23. Disable the movement with a code? Is there not a button to stop it? There is in my car.
  24. From what I hear, I'm lucky to get even a little heat in the driver's seat. The passenger seat seems to be totally dead. I'm not about to shell out the cash to fix it either. The car warms up fast enough.
  25. I have a first gen... It's great. Ultra-cushy, but not very much in the way of acceleration. Don't expect the heated seats to work. Good luck. Any other questions just ask.
