Looks like Billy gave you everything you need but here is page RS-14 from the 2000 LS400 manual. It's not a problem to disconnect/reconnect the battery - that is standard procedure when working on anything electrical. rs-14.pdf

I had a similar issue last fall with my 2000 LS400 - battery would barely hold a charge overnight and the car would almost not start after sitting all day outside in fairly warm (50+ degree) temperatures.. The problem turned out to be caused by corrosion - mainly on the cable clamps that prevented them from making good contact with the battery terminal posts. I cleaned the battery terminal posts and cable clamps with a cheap battery/clamp cleaning tool from Autozone and also with baking soda/water and a tooth brush and until they were bright and shiney. I then tighened the cable clamps to the battery terminal posts VERY tightly. The positive cable clamps don't have as much contact area as the negative terminal clamps so I think it is especially important that the positive cable clamps be clean - don't know if the same odd clamp design was used on your RX. The corrosion didn't look too bad so I'm surprised it was enough to cause the problem and that I've made it through winter with a battery I almost discarded when it was only about 9 months old. Of course your problem could be different.

1) Which car do you like the most? Should you keep looking? Buying a car under a deadline might not be wise. Do you absolutely have to buy a new car RIGHT NOW? 2) You can haggle as much as you want. Dealer salesman have no shame so why should you. But to effectively deal, you need to have a lot of knowledge about supply and demand of these cars or else you will just look silly.

Disconnect the car battery and wait the specified amount of time before you go mucking around and you won't have to worry about the airbags. Are you certain that the problem is in the wiper switch? (i.e. have you used a test light to see if power is getting to the washer fluid pump?) Spaceballs avatar? That's a photo of me.

What is a "washer signal switch"? Is this a part of the steering column switch assembly? The most common cause of failure of the windshield washer system by far is failure of the electric pump attached to the washer fluid tank.

I suppose you could stick clear adhesive carpet protector over them -- the kind that comes in rolls. Are they getting scarred or just dirty? I use a foaming upholstery cleaner and a cotton towel to clean the door sills on our cars -- a Prius wagon with light gray sills and a Lexus LS400 with ivory sills -- seems to make them look decent enough. Can't see them when the doors are closed.

Speaker leads always come out of the amp whether the amp is built into the radio "head unit" or a separate unit. Your radio is neither single or double din - it is a proprietary size. Kits are available for installing just about any double DIN radio into an LS430. The nicer kits are quite expensive. Have you had the problem diagnosed? It seems a bit early to be giving up. The 2013 ES is a very different animal that the 2012-down and is based on the Toyota Avalon platform instead of the Camry platform. From what I've read about the 2013 Avalon, the goal was to make it more of a "driver's car" than the previous model was. My wife and I test drove a 2013 Avalon Hybrid last week and it was actually fun to drive - and very fast ... maybe not "blazing speed" but its published 0-60 time is substantially quicker than my first LS400. Tire pressures change plus or minus about 1 psi per 10 degrees of temperature change. You'll experience a stiffer ride on warm days and a softer ride on cold ones.

Wow! 19 years with the same LS400 sure beats my 13 1/2 years with a 1990 LS400 - passed it to a coworker in 2003 who drove it until 2011. The 93-94 LS400 had MANY features my 90 LS lacked ( http://www.lexls.com/info/lsgenerations.html ) -- more standard equipment and, most important to me, an 8-way adjustable front passenger seat with lumbar support. The 4-way adjustable passenger seat (no lumbar adjustment) was just plain painful for me. I don't know anything about the cats but welcome to the forum.

Is that an available feature on the 2008 IS350? I don't see it in the list of customizable features for the 2008 IS350. My wife's Prius has this feature but it is clearly shown in the customizable feature list for her car - the default is "On" for her car.

Try plugging the 3.5mm audio-out of your Santa Claus MP3 player into the 3.5mm aux-in port instead of into the USB. Per your owners manual, the USB supports only flash memory and iPod - same as our new Prius. If you have a Smartphone, maybe put your audio books on it and connect your Smartphone to your audio system wirelessly via Bluetooth audio (A2DP).

Could you ask the previous owner if the CD changer was working? Are the six CD carrier trays inserted correctly? If I rememberr correctly, it is fairly easy to accidently put them in upside down. The CD changer in my 00 LS400 works fine but I rarely use it anymore. I've copied all my CD's I still want to hear to my phone and stream to my Nakamichi through the aux-in I had added that I told you about in your other thread.

If you buy new mirror glass modules, verify that the glass supports the features your RX has ... e.g. heating, autodimming.

Bewildered? This seems to be standard operating system at my local Lexus dealer - SUPERIOR LEXUS OF KANSAS CITY - but I've seen similar behavior at other dealerships many times in my nearly 50 years of car ownership. I've been dealing with the Lexus dealer scammers off and on - mainly off - for over 22 years. I honestly think their service writers must have to meet quotas or work on commission - otherwise I don't think I would have heard so many tall tales over the years. I won't repeat my entire rant still again on this forum but my "favorite" was when a Lexus dealer service manager literally blocked me from having my car towed to an independent repair shop for a second opinion. Suddenly the $1,000+ repair he wanted to do turned into a charge of a few dollars. These guys have no shame.

I have a 2000 LS400 Platinum Series which is very much like yours. If your timing belt had been changed per the recommended maintenance schedule (90,000 miles or 6 years), your car would now be on its third timing belt. I've never done a timing belt change myself but the indie shop I use always replaces the belt, water pump, idlers, tensioner and a few other small parts. LS400 waterpumps got far more reliable as the years passed.. The waterpump on my 90 LS seized in the mid-90's at about 75,000 miles ... I smelled coolant and then BANG ... the car rolled to a stop. What you do is up to you but I tend to the careful side. I had the timing belt and all the other parts I mentioned changed in 2007 at 90,000 miles and exactly seven years on my 2000 LS400. If I still own the car in summer of 2014, I will have the timing belt and other parts replaced for a second time at 180,000 miles and about 14 years from its in-service date. I recently had a custom aux-in added to the back of my radio with an on/off button on the front (not shown in this photo) by a California company - can stream audio from my Phone (e.g. Pandora, Slacker, TuneIn) to my audio system at what seems like CD quality. My Samsung phone being Android sends data to the Garmin using the Garmin Smart Link app for Android and the Garmin also provides handsfree phone service. I can also initiate phone calls to POI's on the Garmin. It's a very cool set up for an old car.

The best headlight lens restoration kits include a chemical sealer that is applied in the final step. I've refinished the lenses on my nearly 13 year old 00 LS three times with Crystal View kits over the years and each time they have come out looking like new. One of the refinish jobs was done after someone rammed a lens with a shopping cart and scratched it -- as bad as it looked, it came out looking like new after I refinisned it again.

The outside mirror glass on toyota vehicles are usually pried out with a very small blade screwdriver or removed using the shop towel method. I recently remove the mirror glass from our Prius to install turn signal mirror covers and it was easy. Be careful of the wire and connectors for the mirror heat. The mirror glass snaps back into place.

Are you saying that your radio worked fine before the service but not at all after? If that is the case, what does your dealer say about that "coincidence"?

True winter tires (mountain/snowflake symbol on sidewall) will transform your ES into a unstoppable winter snow machine. I'm way down here in Kansas and grandson of Ontario "escapees" (from near Chatham) and I wouldn't think of driving my LS in winter without heavy duty snow tires. I do occasionally drive a lot further north of where I live. Why wait until next winter to buy snow tires? Down here, this is the time of year that snow tires get cheaper. Get some Blizzaks or Michelin X-ice and enjoy the rest of winter. My MXV4's are wonderful tires but they are stored in the garage during winter.

You might want to google "lexus navigation program disk is inserted" to see if any of the hits help? This seems to be a common issue but there are all sorts of ideas on causes and solutions.

That action seems rather dramatic - never heard of someone trying that. Wouldn't it be better to do a proper diagnosis with the correct electronic diagnosis tools?
