So there are no threads that a bolt can screw into? OK, one other idea is to ask a auto body shop to see if they could get the hooks. When my previous LS400 was severely damaged in about 1999, the body shop discarded the cargo net hooks. I didn't want to bother going back to the body shop so I tried getting replacement cargo net hooks at the Lexus dealer -- and was told that they only came with a new cargo net and not separately. I then went back to the body shop and they were able to obtain the cargo net hooks separately as collision repair parts. If "time is money", you might want to just buy a new cargo net and verify that it comes with the hooks. It's only $31.99 at Iron Toad Lexus: http://irontoadcom.siteprotect.net/Merchan...;Store_Code=LSC

Request For Tire Recommendation (2007 Is 250 Rwd)
1990LS400 replied to beginner's topic in 07 - 13 Lexus IS250 / IS350 / IS-F
The tire specs are shown at http://www.lexus.com/models/IS/detailed_specifications.html Use whatever brand of tire your want -- tires that have the characteristics you want. It is definitely not necessary to use the same brand and model that came on a car. For example, the tires that came on the first Lexus I bought were complete crap -- there was even a class action suit and a settlement award. The tires that came on my current Lexus were nothing to brag about. I replaced them with a different brand and model that I like a lot better for their handling characteristics. Tire Rack ratings are a great place to start: http://www.tirerack.com I've bought most of the tires for our cars from Tire Rack for about the past 25 years. Winter is coming up and you live in New York. You might want to consider buying a set of true mountain/snowflake logo winter tires -- makes a big difference when driving in snow. -
The attached diagram from ARRC for the 1992 ES300 audio system seems to show the color of the "hot at all times" wire. 1992_ES300_audio_diagram.pdf

Yes, the hooks come with most cargo nets for Lexus and Toyota passenger cars. Oddly, although they look the same, the cargo net hooks that came with the cargo nets for our Camry and Lexus LS have different threads -- you'd think they'd be interchangeable on two cars made by TMC but they aren't. Some Lexus SUV's have come with the cargo net hooks already installed. I wonder if any of them would work on your SC. If you have an assortment of metric bolts, you could pop out the two plastic trim holders where the hooks would install and identify the bolt size and thread type. Maybe cargo hooks from an LX470 would work. Take a look at the "HOOK, LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT" in this 07 LS470 diagram: http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_U_2007_LEXU...NAGKA_6451.html Click on the text in the parts list on the right side of the page and the part in the diagram will be highlighted. Maybe part number 64725-60010-A0 (ivory) or 64725-60010-B0 (stone) would work. Maybe see if your local Lexus dealer has one of these in stock that you could try. Similar looking cargo net hooks are available for the GX470: http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_U_2007_LEXU...KAZKA_6451.html 64725-60020-A0 (ivory) and 64725-60020-B0 (gray) That's all I can come up with for now.

Where Can I Find The Owner's Manual For The Sc400?
1990LS400 replied to MarcosMarcusM's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
PDF's for owner's manuals can be viewed and downloaded after registering in the Owners section of http://www.lexus.com/ The owner's manual for my 00 LS is about 25 separate PDF's. The Owners section also allows you to order a hard copy of the owners manual. I assume the replacement owners manuals are free since there is no mention of a cost. -
Steve, it makes sense to me. We would buy iPhones just for their convenient size, music, WiFi, Safari browser and the availablility of interfaces for our cars if we could use them without spending $30/month per person for a data plan. People who need to reach us, don't send an email or text message -- they call us. If we don't answer, they leave a message on voice mail. There are free WiFi hotspots everywhere. We don't need to spend another $30/month per phone to get all the Internet access we need. OK, if the iPhone had a decent personal organizer and could sync Microsoft Office documents like a Blackberry or Windows Mobile PDA, even I would consider wasting $30/month to get one. IMO, the best thing that could happen for cell phone users in the U.S. is to separate the purchase of handsets and service like in Europe. And CDMA, used by Verizon and the downwardly spiralling Sprint, needs to just go way like Betamax did when VHS won the videotape wars.

Based on this diagram, it appears that the keyless entry receiver is on the passenger side of the trunk: http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_U_1993_LEXU...EPQFA_8420.html Be sure to seat the ROM chip securely. I had problems with the keyless entry of my 90 LS for years due to a mechanic not properly seating the chip -- I didn't know what the problem was until I sold the car and the new owner figured it out.

The picture at http://www.lexus.com/models/SC/accessories/cargo_net.html appears to show it attached to hooks on both sides of the trunk opening -- similar to how the cargo nets on our 98 Camry and 00 LS400 are attached.

Tail Light Converter Box (other Choices)?
1990LS400 replied to skongolf's topic in 99 - 03 Lexus RX300
I doubt if it a big deal to run the power wire for a trailer light harness to the battery. Maybe I shouldn't say that since I didn't do it myself on my 00 LS400. I had my car in for some other service and, while my car was up on the lift, my indie mechanic ran the power wire for my Modulite trailer light harness underneath the car to a terminal in the underhood fusebox. He ran the power wire out of the trunk through an existing hole for an ABS wire. He used plastic cable ties to hold the power wire to the bottom of the car. He did a good job of hiding the power wire -- I can't see it when I look under the car. I bought my Modulite trailer light harness at at a local trailer supply store but I remember that etrailer, where I bought the hitch for my LS, carried the same one. If you do run a power wire to the battery or underhood fuse box, be sure to use an in-line fuse - my Modulite kit came with one. My mechanic installed the in-line fuse where the power wire attaches to the underhood fuse box terminal so that it is covered by the fuse box cover. The total time for installing the Modulite harness and running it under the car to the battery was less than one hour -- at least that was what I was billed for. If you have a trailer supply store nearby, I'd pass on Walmart and go there -- they can likely tell you exactly what you need and maybe even install it for you. -
Geez, how many oxygen sensors does an 07 ES have? No wonder there is confusion. When I search for "oxygen" in the 07 ES section of toyodyi.com I found this diagram showing two: http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_U_2007_LEXU...1.html?hl=89465 When I search the 07 ES section of parts.com for "oxygen", I found six oxygen sensors. Apparently the four "SENSOR, AIR FUEL RATIO" on toyodyi are shown on parts.com as oxygen sensors. 2+4=6

I could be wrong but I was thinking that the maintenance schedule for your 2004 LS430 was essentially the same as for my 2000 LS400. Does your maintenance manual say to replace the timing belt every 90,000 miles or 72 months and the coolant and brake fluid every or 30,000 miles or 24 months?

How to remove IACV on 1993 Gs300
1990LS400 replied to fonzo91121's topic in 93 - 05 Lexus GS300 / GS400 / GS430
I did a little searching -- sort of a learned skill on this forum. Didn't find a procedure for the GS -- there may be one somewhere on this forum -- but found a detailed procedure with photos for the RX: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=30723 If this procedure isn't close enough, you might try doing additional searches -- select the "advanced" Seach function by clcking the drop down menu in front of the "Go" button at the bottom right of this page. -
Parts.com has a new ML sub (part number 86160-0W520) for an 02 ES for $357.42. Here is a diagram showing the part number: http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_U_2002_LEXU...EAGKA_8602.html Amp location is shown here: http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_U_2002_LEXU...EAGKA_8601.html

If you were willing to try these actions, you would find that they would work to bring the car to a halt with little drama except perhaps an engine screaming at maximum RPM -- but who would care if that is what is required to bring a car to a stop.
-
Have you verified this? Try moving the shifter of your ES350 into neutral and stomping on the brakes while you are flooring the gas pedal. Report back to us on the results.
-
Sounds fishy. Maybe it was a murder/suicide. A CHP can't so stupid or untrained that he doesn't know how to downshift an/or put the car into neutal and/or slam on the brakes. And his wife even had time to make a 911 call while the car is careening out of control? Give me a break, or maybe I should say "brake". Either this was murder/suicide or someone earned a Darwin Award. Yes, I'm being cruel.

Howdy Doody -- sorry, I couldn't resist! Thank you for reporting back on your success. The information you provided may help others.

Here is a wiring diagram from ARRC for the nav/audio system in a 98 GS300. I know nothing about doing what you want to do. I've seen several forum threads lately that document how people got rid of the OEM nav in a 98-00 GS by using an HVAC control module from a non-nav 98-05 GS and installed a double-DIN aftermarket screen based stereo/nav with all sorts of larger speakers and amps. I don't remember anyone trying to pump up the OEM 98-00 audio but it's probably been done. 1998_GS300_nav_audio_diag.pdf

Have you checked eBay Motors? I see a used set off a 99 SC for a buy-it-now price of $225 plus $15 shipping.

1) Find the part number(s): http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_U_1996_LEXU...EPGKA_4503.html 2) Look up the part numbers at: http://www.parts.com/lexus/1996-lexus-ls-400-parts.cfm

lambobaby, if this is really, really bothering you and if you would like to keep your car for a long time, start measuring sun visors that slide or have extensions on other Lexus and Toyota cars to see if you can find some that can be "transplanted" to your IS. Heck, post the distance between where the arm of the sun visor attaches to the headliner and the fitting the sunvisor snaps into and I'll measure our Camry and LS400's visors. Supply some photos ... start a revolution! Seriously, sometime it is possible to transplant parts between car models. I've done some really weird things ... with cars, that is. It could be worse ... much worse. As bizarre as it may sound, the VW Rabbit I bought in 1975 - the first new car I ever bought - had sun visors that could not be moved to cover the side windows - they were "fixed" and only worked with the windshield. The car didn't even have tinted windows or air conditioning. I thought I was going to die before I dumped that P.O.S.

Car Vibrating After New Tires Were Installed ...
1990LS400 replied to mikek753's topic in Wheels and Tires Forums
If you didn't have a vibration with your old tires, take your car back to the store that sold and installed the new ones. They should be able to figure this out. Maybe they didn't balance them correctly -- certainly would not be the first time this has happened. -
"vsc", "vsc Off" & "abs" Lights All
1990LS400 replied to boznian2's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
With the information you have provided, my response to what the shop told you would be "Bullsh!t". Is this a super-high mileage car? 250,000 miles plus? The components the shop says are defective are, as far as I know, not prone to failure. First they couldn't find codes, now they can find several. I'd say ... run, run away from that shop as fast as you can. Just curious, why were you having new springs installed? Were they broken? Springs don't usually wear out and shock absorbers can last an incredibly long time. -
Is the LS460 different than other Toyota and Lexus sedans where the jack points are just behind the front wheels and just in front of the back wheels. I've used the jacks that came with our Toyota and Lexus cars many times to change/rotate tires.
