  1. If Lexus think advertising a line of cars which uses 91 ocatne is going to raise consumer pride and ego, then they might as well require 100 octane racing fuel lol. In fact, I think its the opposite, if they can advertise a Lexus which use regular gas, consumers would have more interest in the car, because it lowers the operating cost. There are certain Lexus out there that are questionable as far as requiring 91 octane, such as the GX, ES and the RX. They share similar engines from the Toyota line and have a lower compression ratio engine. The GS and the LS does not share similar engine with any Toyota and compression ratio is higher than those other engine. We have to remember how a knock sensor works. The knock sensor only dials back timing when it senses knocks, its basically a microphone. Once your engine stop knocking, the computer will slowly advance timing slowly until it knocks again and it dials back again. That means your engine will go constantly go thru this knocking cycle and it will have long term affect. Thats why Lexus is saying that its ok to use 87 octane if cannot find 91, but dont use the low octane gas all the time.
  2. Sure you can save a few bucks by not using premium gas, but you can also save money by not using Lexus recommanded oil, while you are at it, use cheaper transmission fluid, cheap anti freeze and buy the walmart spark plugs, oil filter and air filter. If you dont plan to keep your car for long or if it is a lease then it really doesnt matter. When you read articles in magazines talking about how people are wasting their money using premium gas, they are talking about putting premium gas into cars that requires 87 octane or cars that merely recommands using 87 for improved performance. As far as I know, the GS350 and GS460 is not one of those cars, it clearly states on the manual and on the gas door USE PREMIUM FUEL ONLY. There is a big difference between premium fuel recommand and required. With the price of gas these days, if the Lexus can get away with using regular gas, that would be a big selling point. The fact that they still require premium gas should be telling you guys something. Good rule of thumb is anytime your engine has a compression ratio of 12 to 1 or more, use premium gas.
  3. Looking good stevie, did you get the caliper sticker from ebay? You said painted the sticker, are they painted or stick on?
  4. No Esteban, its because the GS actually looks much better than the BMW 5 series :) The current BMW 5 series is one of the uglist 5 series that I can remember. The angles are way too shape and the tail lights looks like an eye from a japanese cartoon character. The interior is typical boring BMW style and please dont get me started on that moronic I-drive and that space ship gear shifter.
  5. Do you use regular on your 911 Turbo? If you dont, then why would you want to use it on the GS?
  6. Just put the DVD disc in your ML player and I believe there is a lockpick unit that will bypass the motion lock out and let you play video while you are in motion. Not that I am recommanding you do that :)
  7. Nothing will be done unless you complain.
  8. Only if you have the ML option.
  9. Of course magazine editors have a slant for German cars, they dont have to pay for the car or fix it down the line. All they have to do is push it to the limit and see which car handles better. Personally, if I were the type who push my car to the limit everyday, I would by a German car too.
  10. Was the last one a Lexus windshield?
  11. A nav will tell you how fast you are going.
  12. I test drove all those car when I was car shopping 4 months ago, look wise it came down to the GS and the A6. The A6 was a bit slow for a car in this price range and cost more than $10K when equiped with similar options. The M was ok, looks kind of plain and the ride was too stiff and again the V6 is under power and poor gas mileage. The 5 series was ugly looking inside and out, handles great and as quick as the GS, but I wont paid $10K to deal with the i-drive and that funky gear shift. Finally the RL, a great handling car but thats about it. Looks like a Honda Accord and the interior looks like star trek, not much to like. I guess thats why out of the 5 listed by OP, the RL sells the least.
  13. I wouldnt touch it with a 10 ft pole.
  14. I had a extended warranty on my Jeep and that paid for itself 3 times over. I also had extended warranty on one Lexus and one Toyota, I made one $800 claim between the 2 of them.
  15. My dealer charge me $100 to program it for me on my last car, the key was from ebay. I find that reasonable. If every John goes into the dealer for free programming, they will be out of business.
  16. For the most part, Lexus are a pretty reliable car, but just one issue down the line can cost you the price of the extended warranty.
  17. I use good condition not excellent.
  18. Thats a known problem with Lexus, the side mirrors has plastic gears and they do wear out fast. surprise Lexus havent fix that yet, all they been doing is replacing the mirror assembly. I dont even use my auto tilt anymore knowing that it will wear out those gears faster.
  19. Member123, I apologize for any wise comment I might have made, please keep us updated on your rain sensing wiper issue.
  20. If that private party GS350 is a 06 and RWD, KBB has it at $30300. Show that number to them and go from there.
  21. You probably have 3 or 4 thousand to play with there, but there are GS350s out there with the optional 18" rims already on them.
  22. I had that done as well, they felted the AC vents in the center console. It works for most owners.
  23. And isnt a doe a female deer :)
  24. The TSB fix most of the rattle problems, but I know of a few owner that still have the rattle, especially in the colder climate. I am just very surprise that Lexus still havent applied these TSB to the 08 GS. Steviej, I just realize you are from Scituate, hows the fishing down there :)
  25. Member123, I must say your sense of humor is very dry at best, please dont quit your day job. If you are the auto enthusiast you claim you are, I am sure you can find a way to fix the rain sensing wipers. I have and I am not half the auto enthusiast you claim to be. If you live in a area that rains all the time, there are solution for that as well, but I am sure you know about all of them already. This forum would be useless, if people just come here and say nice things only about their GS, but at the time, no one wants to hear people complaining about every little thing. I say you dump the GS since its only a good car and not a great one and go back to your BMW, we all know you deserve better :)
