  1. 1. What is the VSC button (closer to passanger seat) on side of PWR/Snow button? 2. Button on center of rear view does not work? Is this common? In the LS is shades out rear view. 3. Where the rearview connects to the windshild there is a small piece of velcro with a wire and small little transmitter or something? How does one check lower ball joint? New tire on left front and then 15k ago mechanic noted wear on ball joint.
  2. Things are good, but I think I am always a bit stressed when making a car purchase. After buying I read the guys records. Well at 100k they stated the ball joins were wearing. So I did not see this or hear it and might have to make a repair. Sorta mad to get tricked a bit and might call the guy out, but ohh well. One of the four tires was obviously changed since it is a different brand of bridgestone. Of course that is the one with what I think is a bad ball joint. I wacked the tire when it was turned and heard a clink. Also what is the velcro thing by the center mirror? Little plastic piece with wire. Can the back antenna just be removed?
  3. Bought the GS. What a great Lexus. Fun mid size car. Cheers. Wife is happy!
  4. We bought the 98 GS300. Black and tan. Its a wonderful car and my wife is very happy. What a difference from our now backup Taurus 91. :) Change waterpump with timing belt? Also getting a tuneup, but these are much easier jobs then the LS. There is a bit of rust on the exahust pipes, but ohh well. Its near the connections mounts at the end of muffler going towards cats. In the middle sorta. Wow I am messing this up. Does this typically go after 10 winters in CT
  5. That is a good price with the work completed. Man we bought the one we looked at yesterday. After owning a LS for 2 years I have to say a newer GS is really great. The pickup and overall ride is great! My wife is very happy and I thank you all for guiding me to the GS. My only complaint is not as much room as the LS. Of course this is obvious, but I like the extra room to take off shoes and relax on the long trips. I will post pictures when I get them! Both Lexus's together. Amazingly they both have 115k.
  6. Looking at a nice 98 GS300 with 120k. The car looks and runs really well. The timing belt has to be replaced and the last tuneup was 40k miles ago. The car has had regular oil changes. Looks like the car was first leased down south for 40k then the next 80 (mostly highway) by one owner. During my test I played with all buttons and functions. I got on the engine and used the brakes hard. Steering and suspension was tight. The alignment was right on. The interior was mint. Overall this car felt better then the other two that I test drove. Anything else I should look at. Also the cost is about 10k. Does anyone have any feedback?
  7. GS it is. Just going to get some blizzaks for the winter and all will be good. Thanks for the feedback. Yeah it has been a journey to select the right auto, but we started with an AUDI. So things are going well.
  8. Looks like my wife loves the GS and LS. Now I have to sorta figure out a way to get her leaning on the LS. Found a sweet 96 that I want. There are also some 98 GS's but they are 2k+ more with 20k more miles then the LS. Any guidance and your opinion is greatly appreciated! The 96 is kewl? I do like the 98 the best, but for her they both are awesome!
  9. Hello gents and ladies. I see a nice 98 GS with 100k. One owner who take care of the care. Is this car like the older LS's and it would need a new timing belt? Power steering pump? Anything else?
  10. I own a black 93 and it is the best car I have ever driven in. WHen I say this it with the fact that I have rented about 40 autos over the past two years. The ride, power and comfort is better then most newer cars. Most people think my Lexus is a 2002, since they have no clue about luxury cars. This car is a work horse that is more dependable then most new cars. So far my Lexus has about 112/19k on it and I have replaced the belts, wires and caps. Also I did add new tires, clear lights and wheels. For a total investment above 10k I could have bought a 98 Ford.
  11. I own a 93LS and drove a few 98-99 ES's. To me it seemed like a super Camery. The GS looks sporty and I will test it out this weekend. One thing for sure is its about 4-5k more then the ES.
  12. After owning a LS for 2 years I want to get another Lexus for my wife. So far we have tried out a few 98/99 ES's and they were okay. So now I am looking into the GS. Looking for a bit more style and look then the ES. Anyone have an opinion on the 98-2000 models? Any information is greatly apprecited.
  13. This is the resistance readings.... lower is better from LEXLS.com I guess these are good for $88 bucks. New stock LEXUS wires should be about (k Ohms) 1=4.78 2=4.89 3=14.73 4=14.84 5=16.14 6=16.35 7=10.40 8=10.40 C=? C=? Brand I bought (analog meter) BECK/ARNLEY: 1=1.5 (shortest wire) 2=1.5 3=2 4=2 5=5 6=5 7=7.5 8=7.5 (longest wire) C=?? C=?? Vitek wires (k Ohms) Thicker 1=1.05 2=1.86 3=3.38 4=3.44 5=3.16 6=3.76 7=2.13 8=2.25 C=0.89 (RH side) C=1.12 (LH side)
  14. Yeah I ended up getting plugs at Lexus.. I have to verify but I think 16 US. I am going to call them and say that is BS. Then I bought some BECK ARNLEY premium wires. Anyone ever use these? Maybe I should just go Monday and get Lexus wires. Who makes their brand?
  15. Called at 6AM to inform we better change wires and it was complete. Car is still messed up so we are changing wires and brands? Autozone? WesternAuto? Lexus?
  16. Okay I just purchased LEXUS plugs, rotor and caps. The guy said 16 bucks per spark plug, that is some BS. SHould I just buy the plugs at sparkplugs.com (IX iridium) and the wires from VITEK Ultra Series Braided Wires (vitekperformance.com) as LEXLS.com sugests? Have Lexus parts in hand and car at mechanic, but need to buy wires today? Maybe go to high performance parts store for wires?
  17. 700 bucks for all belts, pump and labor. 360 labor.
  18. Abrupt change in the smoothest ride. Today my car was mis firing at idle and every speed above 0. So I looked at records and realized that the cap has not been changed in 112000 miles. So it is at the shop awaiting some LEXUS parts. Suspect this is why I have had a decrease in mileage over the past year. So I am so excited to see this puppy at full power! I orders plugs and rotor. Plugs were last changed 45k, so you think I need them or did right?
  19. Looking at this car and the ES300.. Anyone ever drive the I30? Anyone have an opinion.
  20. Well if Toyota's quality was to drop... It needs to drop a lot to meet up with anything American. These cars are junk when you rent them.
  21. NICE, we will never give up!! Look forward to the next news flash where out 1000 pound bombs pound the enemy! Amazes me that some people say we should just leave IRAQ (like Somolia and Lebannon) and go to Afganistan. THe whole world agreed to remove the Talaban and now they have contributed 20,000 troops. SO we should send another 10,000, 20,000 or 50,000 troops? Can we win... Looks like 60% say stay the course... or at lease don't leave today so maybe Americans do see the light, but the media loves to mix things up. When we take action we get slapped on the wrist.
  22. Maybe I should be smart and get the ES. :)
  23. AM FM are different in my LS. I think AM is higher.
  24. Thanks for all the information. I am not in a rush so maybe I will wait till I see another deal on the LS400. So far I have put about 17,000 highway miles on mine and it has been a wonderful experience!
  25. Avalon was crap. We are looking into the Audi quatro or the BMW3 or 5 with 80k. Wish me luck!
