  1. To start, there is no $5 repair with a Lexus. But seriously folks, if this is going to be a daily driver then stay far far away from this one unless you have a reliable back up vehicle. If the computer is the correct model for that particular year/version it is already programmed. It's when folks install after market or modified type that need programming. If you can swing the cost of moving it to a mechanic you can trust via flatbed tow truck and are not in a hurry to get it running it might be worth while since afterall these are really nice cars. Me, personally after having my heart broken one too many times by somebody elses drama-queen automobile I'd avoid this one.
  2. Probably need to swap at least an ECU for the tranny as well since the LS computer controls will need to know signals to shift are coming from the steering wheel too. (shrugs shoulders) maybe not?
  3. Without the check engine light lit it could be as simple as a dirty wheel speed sensor. With a check engine light it could be a multitude of things involving pollution controls like a dirty cat convertor. If you don't have access to a checker a number of auto part store that will check it for you at no cost. Just be sure to thank them by purchasing a keychain or a bottle of car wax or something.
  4. Realizing a lot of folks like it when all those creature comforts work, and the early GS cars certainly had their share of them. Yet after a while, 1 by 1 those little gadgets and gizmos stop working or become unreliable. When I bought an 04 with 250k miles on the odo a few creature comforts had become parasitic draws so they had been shut off. Seat memory, cd player, and overhead lamp. My car thinks a door is open despite nothing wrong with the doors or actuators, so the door ajar lamp is off on the dash. The little handle you tug on to pop the trunk broke in half. The key fob won't lock/unlock the doors with a new battery. The pea soup radio display fades out at times and the volume knob requires a special touch to work. Actuators under the dash moan and groan when it's above 80 degrees farenheit in the cab. However, I turn the ignition key and the car starts lickety split every time. It runs like a new car, the seats are awesome, it rides like a dream, shifts silky smooth, it's engine prrrs like a kitten, it looks more sexy than a Farah Fawcett poster, and a whole bunch of other cool gizmos and gadgets still work including the cassette player I use as an mp3 player host. AC still blows cold and the his/hers climate control is spot on. Speakers at all four corners and the sub still work, the radio works mostly. All windows roll up and down including the auto feature up front. Oh I suppose the garage door opener works but I'll never use that. Cruise control, paddles on the steering wheel, adjustable seat features, the sunroof, and simply put stuff I can't remember right now either work or I didn't know the car could even do that. I figure on getting around to fixing some of the stuff someday, but so long as it starts and runs well that's pretty much good enough for me these days.
  5. https://rxmechanic.com/how-to-program-tpms-sensors/ This may help
  6. First thing that popped in my head was why spacers are used. My son used them on a car because wheel weights on the inside of the rims were rubbing the brakes. He put on different weights and went back to stock width. Next I would ask if the car has been lowered any. If so, raise it back up a little. Like said above altering the camber or rolling the fenders are options as well,
  7. Lexus or Toyota dealer? I'd suppose Lexus and Toyota cars may share that part.
  8. https://wiringdiagram.2bitboer.com/wiring-diagram-lexus-gs300/ Maybe these will help?
  9. Hey man, welcome to the site. Congratz on your purchase. I've always been a fan of a pretty stock platform with a few sleeper mods or perhaps factory upgrades. So little things like custom valve stems on the wheels, perhaps a powder coat added to make the factory wheels a wee bit darker, maybe some custom colored logos and things like that. One super cool sleeper mod is to get the finish on the car so clean and shiney it looks like a mirror. My car has an 8 ball shift knob and checkered floor mats for example. I also had some die-cut gun metal color vinyl decals made to mimic the logos on thevtrunk so instead no logos like many mine are a little lighter than the black paint for a stealth look. But to make it louder? To me the charm of the GS car is how Toyota spent so much time and energy designing a way to dispipate noises to provide super quiet running engine, and exhaust so when the car is warming up for example you cannot hear it running from 25 feet (unless the hood is raised) so I have no idea what to reccomend to add volume to the exhaust. That and the silky smooth shifting transmission are what sold me on the GS300.
  10. Looks like we made it through 2021 after the dumpster fire of a year called 2020 went out with a whimper. May you all have a happy turkey day and be sure to leave room for pie.
  11. X3 on the Yota dealer. See, there's some special tricks a Toyota mechanic should know that assists in getting the new belt back on. Nothing against independent shops as many are able to service nearly any make and model cars up to a point. A new timing belt is one of those points in my view.
  12. From what I understand the fob did not have much range when batteries were new and as batteries get weaker the range gets shorter and shorter. My 04 fob stopped working because my car thinks one of the doors is ajar. The door was dinged and that caused the open/closed sensor to malfunction. So there are instances where the fob is "blocked" from locking or unlocking the doors. But like DC said it could be the old batteries.
  13. X2 on the junkyard pump. Stash #7 for when the OEM one plays out. Either that or go to a NAPA store and buy one manufactured to OEM specs. But then again, you say you like working on cars……
  14. Not going to discuss hot wiring of a luxury car on an open forum. You need to call a locksmith.
  15. I find myself behind cars that put out juuuuust enough oil smoke where I can see it but feel pretty sure the driver ahead of me cannot. Often intermitent as well. Perhaps you could have somebody follow you around to see if yours does that.
  16. Did they use a hydraulic pump to refill the lines? Sounds like the master cylinder may be leaking pressure. Some say if the pads are worn the extra pedal travel after a bleed with show up.
  17. Bummer. Maybe this will help https://www.salvage-parts.com/junkyards-in-canada
  18. Many say turn the key to start it and you can hear the pump begin to hum. In this case remove the horizontal part of the backseat to hear it a lot better. If it is the pump you've already done a fair amount of the work to replace it as it's located under the back seat driver side.
  19. 8 year old gasoline may be the problem
  20. If it's air you'll see air bubbles in the power steering fluid resevior. Kinda like root beer foam. A way to get that out is place the front of the car on jack stands where the wheels are suspended and steer back and forth. If it's trapped air that should do the trick. If repeating that for 15-20 minutes and it still foams you have a leak somewhere that allows air to get sucked into the hydraulic system.
