  1. Hey GuyTelefunken, Haven't heard from you in a while... how's ur shop doing? Anyway, thanks for the reply! As for the "lower control arms" I am talking about, they are the lowest metal arm on the front suspension. On the end that connects to the car's chasis (not the end that connects to the wheel) there's a round cylindrical bushing. There's also another metal arm that connects to it. So, if you were to go into a deep pot hole then that "control arm" would be the first thing to hit the floor. I hope that description helps. I'm not sure if I'm using the right term. As for the fuel filter, I guess there's no way for me to change it huh? As for the differential, I have no idea where that is and that's what I wanted the manual for... for the location of the many parts that I would like to find. Also, would you know anyone good in the NYC area who could do this? I heard that if not done correctly it could do more harm to your transmission than good. And doesn't the transmission oil pan need to be removed so that the filter can be cleaned at this time? As for the Bosch Icon wiper blades, I really wanted to get the Valeo's since that was the first company I saw make wipers in that manner. But then Autozone only carried the Bosch Icons and Autozone will give you a $20 gift card every five times you spend $20 there. I have four stamps already... The wipers thus far have been a great improvement over the normal ones. They stay down much better on the highway and they don't make as much noise. They seem to clean better too. I just recently tried RAIN-X on my windshield and combined with the Icons, my vision through the windshield is perfect. I'm thinking about trying DURAPELL, by the way. I've read that DURAPELL lasts for months as opposed to RAIN-X's two or three storms. Have you tried it? Please let me know. And again, I appreciate your posts GUY. vic

  3. is it me or does the wood pattern look very fake and plasticy??
  4. For the headlights.....but nevermind though....i found a spot........they came out good.....thanks for the thought at least where did you end up putting the ballasts? just curious as i might be picking up a set of hids soon...
  5. Depends on the dealer, mine still does this. All of them do around here. As for the Cressida, my uncle had an early 80s Cressida and my other uncle and aunt had a early 90s Cressida. Nice cars for sure, very smooth and quiet and while the interiors definately looked like the original Lexus interiors, I certainly would not say they are richer and more luxurious looking than an ES330. The ES330 has about the most luxurious looking interior in any car under 45k. The Cressida never had real wood or thick pile carpeting etc. is the wood in any lexus REAL wood? I have a 1999 GS300 and thought I had real wood. When I called the dealer and asked though, it turned out that the 'wood' inserts were plastic... just curious...
  6. Does anyone know how much a new driver's seat would be for a 1999 GS300. I am considering replacing mine as the leather is starting to wear down. Are there any issues with swapping out the seat??? Has anyone done this before? Thanks all.
  7. Whoa SRK! You lost me... what's torque converter lock up? and why would the car jolt when it goes into this? and why would it be more gentle under constant part-throttle? Would this still happen if we were to get a beefier torque converter?
  8. I just noticed that my car seems to buck a little when i let go off my gas pedal after i pass quickly on the highway? if i am going at 75 and step down on the gas about an inch or two and then lift off the car does the same. does anyone know why??? could there be a problem with my tranny???
  9. Hey Neo, Where would I be able to pick up a set of Daizens for my 1999 GS300. I've been looking around online and have only found the TRD sway bars. If you could link me to a site that would be great. Thanks.
  10. Hi all, I'm looking for a set of OEM Lexus GS300 rims. I am hoping someone around the New York City area would have a set for sale. The rim I want is in the following eBay link. It's the 16" version, but I think there's a 17" version also. I would prefer the 17" one but I am fine with either. Thanks for your help. Rims I want.
  11. I just noticed that one of my license plate light bulbs went out this morning when I got to the office. So, I went out to Knappa to buy a replacement bulb but could not get to it. I was wondering if anyone knows how to get access to that bulb? Do I have to remove that clear plastic piece or the plastic piece that covers the key hole for the trunk. I have a 1999 GS300 by the way. Thanks for the help.
  12. Thank Telefunken... you've given me some great answers on numerous occasions. Members like you contribute so much to this forum. Regarding the noise when I back up, I was thinking it might have been a suspension component and was getting worried. I drive over 100 miles each day to and from work and I really do not want a wheel to fall off or something like that on the highway. Well, I'm going to pick up a can of brake dust cleaner and clean out my brakes. Do I need to disassemble the front left brake to spray the stuff on or can I just spray with the wheel there? Thanks. Lexii have CV joints but they are in the rear. Have the front brakes serviced. This includes cleaning and lubricating the calipers, surfacing the rotors if the have a rusty edge or scoring and/or replacing the pads including the anti-rattle shims, spring clips and wire springs that mechanics seem to always neglect. If every part is not to Lexus spec, and present, I have found all types of noises to be the case. The clicking is often caused by missing clips, shims, or springs. It is caused by the pads moving in the caliper when changing direction. The grinding can be several things most likely a buildup of rust and brake crud on the rotor edge surfaces or calipers.
  13. A grinding noise just developed in the passenger side front suspension. It only happens when I have my steering wheel turned to the right and backing up. I also get a clicking noise when stopping at a stop sign to turn right. What could cause this noise?
  14. are the shift knobs for the ES, GS, LS, SC and RX interchangeable? It seems like they are and I would like to replace the leather one I have in my '99 GS. Does anyone know?
  15. oh man... i know exactly what you mean... it's such a pain. i bought my lexus thinking that i wouldn't have to worry about it. but every little sound that doesn't sound normal makes me wonder if there's something i need to fix.
  16. yo buddy.... put up some pics of your interior... show us the louie pattern...
  17. Just curious... was it hard to take off the throttle body? How many screws/nuts/bolts were there? I'm thinking about doing this when it gets warmer in NYC. The furthest I've gone to cleaning the throttle body is spraying the cirular flap with carb cleaner and scrubbing it down with a toothbrush. That helped a bit with the low idle.
  18. Guys, sorry I took so long to get the pix but I had problems with my computer and cam software Great Pics! I just started scrubbing the flat black paint off last night as well. Went to home depot after work to pick up "FINE 00" wool and cleaned of about a third of the bars without paint thinner before I got too tired. I'm curious though about what the chrome underneath the flat black paint is? Is it a type of metal, plastic coated with metal, or just plastic? I don't want to scrub too hard and wear off the chrome.
  19. hey guytelefunken, how would a bad o2 sensor cause the P0125 code to pop up. how is the o2 sensor related to engine coolant temp? i was just wondering. let me know. thanks for all your help.
  20. it is missile proof. ... great engine... will last forever.
  21. I've heard from a few people that it is relatively easy to plug in an audio input wire into the back of a GS's stereo system as they come with free input jacks. I recently just purchased an iPod fm transmitter and was very disapointed with its performance and heard about this extra input jack in most Lexus stereos. So, I wanted to get the cable and peal away the carpet and plug in an input wire for my iPod. Is this true? If so have any of you done this? Thanks.
  22. yeps... i've had the o2 senesors changed. thanks for remembering.... haha.
  23. The diagnostic code P0125 popped up on my '99 GS300. The code is for: Clsd Loop Fuel Ctrl Insufficient Coolant Temp. From the diagnostic pdf file I read for the GS its either the thermostat or the engine coolant temp sensor. I know where the thermostat is but where is the engine coolant temperature sensor?
  24. OK, After 1 day with the tranny cooler installed I can definetly feel a smoother shift [ I thought it couldn't get any smoother ] I am happy with the results. I will be taking a 1000 mile round trip next week. I will be watching the gas milage with my recent intake mod and will post the results. B) i wish i were more mechanically inclined!! i keep on hearing about all of these mods but they all seem so hard to do. i just bought my gs in april 2005 and it is my first car. i've lived in the city all my life so i never really needed one and never had to lay a hand on one to do any type of work. oh wells, i'm going to try some of these mods soon. the only thing is that i'm afraid of breaking something.
  25. hey buddy, thanks so much for looking through the manual for me. it's greatly appreciated. the only reason why i put the post up was because of this site: http://replacement.autopartswarehouse.com/...0Sensor&dp=true they say that the lower sensor on the front most manifold is sensor 1: "Oxygen Sensor Center You need to picture this inline 6 engine from front (radiator side) to rear (firewall side). With this in mind, this is the CENTER sensor. This is located on the exhaust manifold, for spark plug #s 1/2/3. Also referred to as the #1 sensor. Year: 8/1997-12/2004" and then: "Front 4 wire You need to picture this inline 6 engine from front (radiator side) to rear (firewall side). With this in mind, this is the FRONT sensor. This is located on the exhaust manifold, for spark plug #s 1/2/3. Also referred to as the #2 sensor. " as you can see they're saying that the lower first manifold sensor is referred to as #1 and the upper front manifold sensor is referred to as #2. thanks again!
