  6. Technically any car can drive any distance... all depends on how much you're willing to spend ;) This topic invariably shows up on every car model's dedicated forum. Now, original drivetrain? That's a different story. not really, i have two good friends that both have 1990 ls 400's one has over a million miles the other over 700000 miles, both have original motor and transmission, only add on's on the motor replaced air compressor, alt, water oump the body looks rough after going through two family members but both have had oil changes every 3000 miles timming belt changes ect. the guy that has the million mile car bought a new one at 250000 miles and gave the 1990 to his son in law, after a month he traded with him and took the 1990 back and said it was a better car.i really believe the 1990 was the best ever built, It would be interesting to see pic's of both the LS's with odo pic's. B)
  7. Welcome to the club The amp is in the trunk on the passenger side behind the wheelwell. I may have an amp for you, I'll look. What happens is water gets in the trunk and shorts the amp out. There are steps you can take to waterproof the area around the amp.

  9. Yeah, I hope it never happens. So far so good on my GS.
  10. REB, I just replaced mine, 99 GS-300 yesterday, got the display from dcfish and replaced it myself in less than 25 minutes start to finish, instructions were included. I'm pretty mechanically inclined needed a phillips screwdriver, 10mm. socket. It's actually pretty easy all for $140. If you need help let me know, I can walk you through it. You just need to get the LCD display from dcfish (he's a really good guy) and I received the display in couple of days. Sent payment through paypal. Regards, Blaise $140 for burned out 25 cent LED? I'm wondering if it is possible to disassemble the display unit to replace the burned out LED. Would another 25 minutes worth of labor allow someone to unsolder the bad LED and replace it? Is it a sealed unit or is the LED mounted to a circuit board that could be soldered (like your cell phone). Anyone want to post a picture of what the display unit internals look like? (not trying to take business away from dcfish, not everyone would be willing to take it to the next step, but $140 for a burned out LED is more than I'd want to spend. Don't have a burned out display yet but seems like a lot of 2001 are writing in). If it were that easy I would do repairs rather than replacements. It is a LCD not a LED. ;) Owners used to replace the entire headunit when there LCD burnt out for a considerable amount of $ more. Yes it's a LCD but isn't the part that is failing the backlight which is most likely a LED? Or are the segments actually disappearing? Like I said, hasn't happened to mine yet. There are 3 led's soldered onto the PCB board behind the LCD panel. The LCD panel fails and the digits no longer display. So no matter how the LCD is lit up you can't read it. When yours fails you know where I am. ;)

  14. The rear tire may have a bad stem or the wheel/tire seal is compromised, Or you may just have a slow leak in the tire itself. Have the brake fluid replaced and check the pads and lines while this is done. The shake could be a number of things, If the tires still have a good amount of life left have them balanced and rotated first and check tire pressure. If you plan on buying new wheels /tires, I would go ahead and do that rather than fussing with the old set. Yes. A new wheel/tire/balance could solve all of your leakage/shake problems and you usually get a better deal with a complete package. If you can live with old the tire situation until summer, Then save and wait. I would get the brake situation fixed ASAP.

  18. Sounds like the switch is dirty ;) Try removing the switch and clean the contacts.
  19. The answer is yes, You can install a factory nav, Although it can be pricier than aftermarket navs. If you want a OEM nav let me know. I'll see if I have one.
  20. No problem, Enjoy the forums and your GS
  21. I understand that the car was shipped from the factory without a cd changer and cd headunit. The car IS prewired from the factory with the cd wiring harness. It is very well hidden and takes some deep searching. Believe me, I have dealt with more lexus audio/navigation components than I care to remember. Take your time and search for the wiring harness, It's there. The cd headunit will work without the changer.
