  1. I had Pirelli P600 on mine at first, but I rode them until the tread came off, they only lasted me about 30,000 miles. They also had an uneven wear. I now have Good Year Eagles on the front and Good Year Snow Tires on the Back. I can't say the ride is any better, but the tires are wearing evenly now.
  2. You will have to find out where the moisture is getting in and seal it completely if possible. Otherwise it will continue to attract moisture is it isn't air tight. I ordered a new one for mine.
  3. Oh, you have the new 8liter V16 Ls430 version. You go 5 miles and it cost 5 dollars to top it back off. Wow. But you're in Canada so I'm not sure if the fuel is over 5 dollars a gallon up there or not.
  4. Try 10-12 years. JimA Guess I'll just have to pray for one.
  5. Had mine done at Midas for around $120.00.
  6. Lexus says the VSC light goes off whenever the computer senses there is a problem. Did your rpms jump or the throttle change in any way. I hate this fail safe feature on my vehicle. I always have to cut off the engine and restart it to get control. Gets kind of dangerous if it goes off when you are pulling into traffic or while making a left hand turn with oncoming traffic approaching.
  7. Semmes to me it would be weatherstripping along the bottom of the door on the pass side... ArmyofOne, how many miles do you have on your Custom Ford. Just curious. And does she run well?
  8. Man, I thought we were ahead of the game. We are so far behind. I still don't have a navigation. I was thinking about getting a 99 RL with nav for my wife and trade in the 91 Legend LS. I still really like the Legend, but it's beginning to have too many minor problems to keep. Like the Ignition Switch. Had it replaced but it still gives us problems occasionally. Water leaking somewhere in the rear drivers side and the front window motors have just about had it.
  9. Sorry bout the unfortunate fender bender. It looks like you can just replaces the corner lamp post and headlight and try to push the rest back in shape as much as possible. But when I seen that seat, I'm sorry I had to laugh. I have never seen that before, I look at the minimum damage on the fender and look at that seat and say to myself, how in the world could that have happened during your impact. It looks like all four of my kids have been sitting in your back seat pulling on the side of your driver side chair for the last 12 years.
  10. I do recall a couple of years ago I had a problem with harsh vibration at highway speeds. Had an alignment and it still didn't solve the problem. Took it to a tire place and they told me that two of my tires were broke. What in hell does that mean? He told me the steel belts were broken and I needed two new tires. Well I listened and what do you know, problem was solved. Not saying this will solve your problem, but something for everyone to think about that may be ignorant to the fact like I was that tires get broken.
  11. Your very own NFL team is included with the Coach edition, along with Terrell Owens.
  12. I have a 1998 with about 125000 miles on it. Had my timing belt and water pump replaced at 120000 miles. I would not recommend that you wait though because you run the risk of damaging your engine if your timing belt breaks. I did it because I drove my Camry 120000 miles with no problem and the fact that I drive between 30000 to 40000 miles a year. TB and WP ran about $800.00 at Len Stoler Lexus. But they are cheaper than the other Lexus dealers I tried who wanted a little over $1000.00. Do I think it's a good deal? Well, I haven't seen a picture of the interior or exterior so I can just guess that it's in good condition so I will say yes. I purchased mine December 05 for $16000.00 with 82,000 miles on her. She doesn't have any dents but you can tell she had been in an accident because of the blending of the paint on the door bottoms. My main concern was the engine so that she will last me.
  13. Oh well, I know you guys are pretty tired of this post. But, I'm going to buckle down and let the Pittsburgh Stealers, I mean dealers take me to the bank next month. I called the service lady and having to know something about cars, she agreed that she cant see why the throttle body should be replaced entirely. After her discussion with the mechanic that looked at my vehicle, she told me he informed her that if I don't have the throttle body replaced it will eventually lock up on me, and that cleaning it did not solve the problem as I can see. The computer is taking over the engine acceleration occasionally even with the a/c running now. She is going to call me back with the cost. The labor isn't an issue, it's the part that runs around 1100.00. She tried to find a way around it. Their are two throttle body sensors, one for the opening and for the throttle. Apparantly, they are supposedly working correctly on my vehicle. I will ask her by chance if they can replace them with new ones just to check to see if that would fix the problem, but I'm sure that the answer would be no, unless I pay for the new sensors which would run about 425.00 for both. She told me the diagnotic code was I believe 1178. Thanks for all of your help guys. I really do appreciate it. Especially the 747 joke. I just flew for the first time last week to Seattle on one. Or was it a 757. Flying is pretty cool.
  14. It could be Flint Mica, the color looks sort of like both the Cypress Pearl and Flint Mica. Whatever the color, Me Likee. May I ask how much of a set back she was and the title has a different year than the post.
  15. Sunday, I wanted to add some 134 coolant and didn't know where the line was, so I went to the manual. Didn't find it there, but I did notice the manual stated there was an air filter in the glove compartment. I opened it up and pulled out the filter and wow, all kinds of particals started falling out, broken up leaves and dirt. This thing was filthy. I didn't even know I had a filter in the glovebox. Anyhow, I came back to the forum to find where to put the 134. I wasn't having any problems with my A/C, I just run it all the time because of my throttle body so I thought I needed a refill. Well today is Tuesday, I went to pick up a new filter, $36.00 at the dealer, kind of high for a filter, but never the less I purchased and replaced the filthy one. To my surprise, my A/C is now ice cold compared to cold. It was 80 degrees today and I usually set the A/C on 2 to 3 bars when it's warm, I set it on 1 bar and the chill was piercing through my shirt. I don't know if this will help anyone else, but always willing to share my changes with the fam. You all probably already know about the filter anyway, glad I do now.
  16. lmao. Man that was funny. I think you're on to something Threadcutter. I will check on a throttle position sensor, the cost for the part and replacement and see what happens from their. If that works, I can use the savings to become a Gold Member. It's about time, all of the advice that's posted on this site alone is worth it.
  17. Yeah but if your brother went to the BP car wash for a year and you live where the sun do shine all the time, the sun is what ate up the paint, not the car wash. Now had he taken it to an automatic laser wash which puts color wax and clear coat protectant, well then again that cost 2 dollars more, but it's worth it considering these pics. Man, I know to keep spending that extra 2 dollars now. Well, I have some chipped paint on my front bumper that I'm going to get a price check on. I'll ask and see how much it would cost if my hood and trunk paint were peeling.
  18. Hood shocks? How much do they run. My hood shocks are shot. Are they relatively easy to install? I have a 98.
  19. I didn't know a locksmith could cut a key that would work. I thought all the keys had a program chip installed. I just got a master key from the dealer for $270.00. I believe a regular key without the Lock/Unlock feature costs $135.00 at the dealership.
  20. I have a 98 Ross. I just keep the a/c running so the check engine light wont come on and take control of the gas pedal. The gas pedal becomes hollow when the check engine light comes on if I turn off the a/c and you have to push the pedal all the way down to the floor in order to get acceleration for the rpms to go past 2000. But cutting the engine off and restarting gives me control of the gas pedal again with the check engine light still on and of course the vss because that automatically cuts off when there is a problem.
  21. (I agree also with RX330 that the name Mercedes holds the car in it's prestigious place, but I go to Red Lobster because the food tastes better than Long John Silvers overly battered meat. If it tastes the same, I would take Red Lobster off my to do list immediately.) _________________________________________________________________________ "RX330Driver - The problem with mercedes is that they are over priced and they are losing the battle in quality over the past few years, but you cant beat their "reputation" and brand name. Just the name, mercedes, say it to yourself, it sounds much better than lexus. And no matter what lexus can do to separate themselves with toyota, its still a toyota." Id like to think this sums up what most people think out there -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------_________________________________________________________________________ (If Lexus cannot separate themselves from Toyota no mater what they do, then with all of the downward reliability with Mercedes, can we safely say that Mercedes cannot seperate themselves from Chrysler at this point? Just a thought.)
  22. Thanks Threadcutter, Lexus of Towson told me I had to replace the throttle body. That was the code coming up on the readout. I had it cleaned yesterday and the problem is still there. As long as I have the air conditioner running I don't have that problem. Once I cut it off after a couple of miles or so, the check engine light comes on and takes control of the throttle and puts my rpms at about 2000 and stays. I have to cut off the engine for about 5 seconds then restart it to get the gas pedal back to normal operation. To get the check engine light to go off I have to restart maybe 2 or 3 times. What you said about the seal I'm pretty sure your right. She told me the part was close to nothing, but the labor was extensive. But I'm pretty sure she will look out for me and give me the best rate she can. As for the throttle body, I'm in a blindspot, that's the only code that comes up and I've had the throttle body cleaned. The part is just so expensive I just have to run the a/c forever.
  23. My mechanic passed away about 5 years ago. I'm glad you have a good mechanic Ross. They don't come a dime a dozen. Well, I'm back. Seems the throttle body cleaning didn't do what I wanted. I still get the check engine light on when I turn off the Air Conditioner, and the throttle body code is what the problem was when I took it to Lexus to have the code pulled 6 months ago. Well the beautiful service lady gave me a much larger discount than 5%. The bill was actually $1374, minus $281.00 in discounts plus tax for a total of $1124 for the timing belt, water pump, throttle body cleaning and the master key. I know I'll be going here now for service so I can try the loaner RX330 next go round. I forgot what everyone said the squeaky sound was coming from when you push on the front end of the car up and down. May be the ball joints or the rubber wearing on something. I don't know, I deal with that later, but I'll probably still need a throttle body replacement so I can cut off the a/c button next winter and save some fuel.
  24. Well, after printing the instructions for changing the timing belt and water pump, I decided to let the mechanics handle it. It just appeared to be too much work for me to handle alone. And every mechanic I called to try and help wanted at least 600.00 to change the timing belt on a Lexus. Took it to Len Stoler Lexus yesterday and got a loaner, 2006 ES330. Very nice ride for $36000. Although the acceleration in my opinion is poor. It has a 218hp 24v V6, but it just seems to have no pull whatsoever. I know it's a Lexus, but I still expect some performance out of that beautiful machine. Anyway, Timing Belt 600.00, Water Pump 176.00, Throttle Body cleaning 190.00, Cut and program master key 260.00, minus 5% discount will put me at about $1175.00. Every shop I called wanted more than the dealer for the timing belt job. They did tell me something about my cams or something to do with the oil maybe leaking within the next year. Anybody know anything about that. I check with them when I pick up the car. The Service lady told me it was nothing major at this time. It just appears to be wearing so keep an eye on it. The part is cheap but the labor is 15 hours. They have to remove the transmission to perform the work. Anyway, I'll tell you all what it is later. I think I got a good deal considering having the work done at Lexus. Any opinions.
  25. Anyone ever heard a grinding noise in their LS while parking. It happens while in reverse and braking with steering wheel turned to the far left. I hear a grinding sound as if the tire is rubbing against the wheel well or something to that effect. No rush, just wondering if anyone ever heard of this or know what it is. I've had it for a while.
