  1. That's not sludge, It's simply oil that has burned on the cover plate for the oil fill cap. It's almost impossible for that not to happen. Toyota puts protictive shielding on all the external orifaces of it's valvecovers to keep oil from being slung out of the engine if they ever go missing. Same thing happens to the PCV / crankcase breather cover plates, etc, etc. What you're showing is normal operation. The oil film that attaches to the cover plates doesn't 100% drip off & simply cakes over time. You have to pull both the valve cover's off to check for sludge. I can flat out tell you. if you take that to a dealer, they're goingt o laugh at you & send you right back out the door unless you can prove sludge. Either by pictures inside the heads (remove valve covers), or there is actual sludge related damage occuring. Which, unfortunately, breaks down into a lack of oil circulation has roasted a bearing. The first sign of that is typically engine damge so sever the bottom end must be rebuilt. (i.e. rod collapsed, bent, slung off the crankshaft, or snapped in half) So if the engine isn't knocking & you don't have pictures inside the valve covers... They're gunna toss you out, or charge you the $200-300 for taking the valve covers off & replacing the gaskets. You know... That's good long-term maintenance, but something I think alot of mechanically inclined people would just preffer to do at home. agreed i took my valve cover off at abotu 130k i think and there was a coating of oil abd didnt see any sludge at all.
  2. it reallt simple perheat to about 200-220, stick tthem in for about 5minutes and see if the y pull apart in font add 2-3 more minutes. make sure all bolts/screw are removed i do this all the time when i retro fit headlights.
  3. no raamat http://www.raamaudio.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi rick is a nice guy and will help i suggest 1 roll and 4 feet of ensolite should do and a can of spray adhesive and do most of the car. but email him and find out what he suggests
  4. change the bulb and check the terminals for corrosion, and if there is some hit it with some sand paper.
  5. go with 215/50 r 17 then it will throw the odometer back correct.
  6. u will need a spacer for the rear 1/4 inch will work and the is comes with 215/45.r17, our cars need a 215/50r17 to keep the speedo correct edit: ust realized your is the next gen up so, what i said may be correct or wrong, but the cars have the same center bore and bolt pattern./
  7. i usually run 35psi in my tires, and it is not that bad, u just feel alittle more on the big bumps, but oddly enought it handles better.
  8. it gums up the little passage ways. i change my oil every 5000 miles, and when i took off my valve covers to change the gaskets it had alomost no sludge and that was at about 135k a bout a year or so ago.
  9. i just got annoyed and removed the housings, then installed the bulb.
  10. it is simple. look at the throttle body u will see the wire on top that is your gas pedal wire the one on bottom is your kick down wire. now loosen up the nut on the end. andd thread it back a few more turns, till there is a little play but not alot, no play is bad. make sure you tighten everything back up.
  11. As am I, however, I wonder if maybe the PS belt was put on too tight at 40k miles when replaced at the dealer due to a squeal. One will never know. I also wonder if having the engine cleaned 2 times per year may have an effect on these types of seals. I have to wonder if the dramatic change in climates, amount of salt used on the roads in winter and what not. I am reaching here JPI. I did ask what their failure rate on PS pumps for the 2001-2006 ES's were. They said not that high, but they have seen it. steviej i had the same problem on my lex. with the rotors i think they are too small for the mass of the car. but my tacoma stil has stock rotors at 212K and are in great shape.
  12. so true. :) we all are so proud of our old cars 5 of us took the lexus on a 11 hour road trip one weekend, it never acted up once, but now the tranny hates me but oh well,
  13. best one i saw was a silver dub cab ram with a huge hemi sticker in orange across the back glass and still rolling temp tags. i was doing about 75mph and he flew by me. about 10 minutes later there is a bunch of fliuds (oil and antifreeze ) all over the road and there he sat with his hood up and white smoke a rolling. that was in VA. near lexington. :chairshot:
  14. when it wont shift into second. peole think your 10 year old car is new. when your overpriced camry with leather is clean ;)
  15. i did both, got the cuts to prove it. :chairshot: do u know anything about the other sensor i mentioned in my previous post?
  16. well 122. each for them, not expensive engouh? well i finally went and replaced both the back one had gotten into an aruge ment with the exhaust manifold and meilted the connector. that was my problem. another question there is a sensor on top of the power steering pulley assembily. how important is that? what would happen if if broke and was not fixed?
  17. i got that code autozone said o2 sensor heater, circuit malfunction (bank 1, sensor 1) i got bosch 13354 and replaced the one in front. now i am wondering was that the correct one? the guy donw there said it was but i dont trust them.
  18. higher temps are not brighter, the ultinon would look nice but i kept mine stock because when it rains that temp (6000k) light makes things a lil less visable to me... but that might just be me, I'm actually looking to throw some 3000k (very yellow) hid's into my fog light housing, but I'm just gonna try a cheap($140) aftermarket set for that. The ultinon's look pretty bad in that picture from the other site, but so does the cutoff on his headlights, something just looks wrong with his whole setup. Goodluck with your replacement though, I know you can't go driving around with a pirate car for too long. not that i'm recommending this but if you switched the bulbs out of your 2006 would the dealer know? man either get a d2r (stock) or d2s(mayneed a little filing.) ebay is prolly the cheapest get philips or orsam. if it dont look like the stock bulb dont get it. u can get a pair of philips d2s for 70-90.
