  1. ECT Power= Electronic Controlled transmission Power. It lets the car rev higher, and it is supposed to shift a little harder. Many people debate the use of the ECT button; I leave it off for the best possible fuel mileage B).
  2. You are definantly looking at the right car for that!!! I believe that all of the ES's have the 8 speaker setup which is made by Pioneer. I'm not big into stereos, so the stock one is excellent to me! Eventhough the car only has 188hp, she can really get around; I think mainly due to the tranny which will hold gears up to 5500+ rpms. The price if it's mint is probably pretty good. I paid $6200 for my '94 w/ 105k, but it had a few interior problems and a small mechanical glitch. I probably put about $1500-$2000 into my '94, so it truley seems like a new car now! Now I'm thinking about spening $400 on all new weatherstripping; I want it to be dead silent inside :D !
  3. Welcome Mike, it's good to have another southerner here :D ...it seems like everyone lives in the NE :( . Anyways the 94-96 ES has 188hp. These are not sports cars....more emphasis is put on a smooth comfortable ride. If you floor it though, they can get out of their own way!!! There are a few common bugs in the first ES300's like flickering needles(mainly[not all the time] after 95k miles), wind noise when traveling over 50mph from decaying/dried weatherstriping, pop the hood open and make sure it stays open by itself b/c the struts will fail out(about $100 for the 2), crappy cupholders, bad location of power point, the antenna mast gets old and fails(the antenna motor turns, and it makes a bad grinding noise), and make sure the engine and tranny fluids were changed regularly because serious problems can occur if not like oil sludge and tranny failure. I think that's about it; any other complaints guys?...... The Good: powertrain that is soooo smooth and quiet it leaves very little to be desired, typical Lexus fit and finish, the rear and front profiles(mainly the projector headlights) as well as an excellent looking interior, silky smooth ride w/o terrible amounts of body roll, auto climate control is always a plus, pretty decent stock stereo, everyone thinks that your car is less than 5y/o B) , 18-20 mpg in the city, and nothing is better than loading up the cd changer, opening the sunroof, and going for a drive on a nice Saturday afternoon :) . Tell us a little more about the ES you are looking at...
  4. There is a Lexus parts site that a club member told me about http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/ind...m?siteid=213808. They have just about every Lexus part you can think of(literally). For the first gen(ES3) they have the hood struts for $48 a side and $65 per side for gen 2 which is incredibly cheap for genuine Lexus parts ;) probably even cheaper than Camry 1's.
  5. In case anyone is looking for the hard copy reapir manuals, here is a set that I came across on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=2444863121. They're new and have no reserve. (by the way it's not my auction) I got a little depressed after seeing what the '94's are going for on ebay :( .
  6. That price is for everything! I think I'm going to have to buy one now :D ! Steve, where could I get it for less?
  7. Do you guys know if a similar year Camry power antenna would work on an ES...mainly my '94. I've seen one on a Toyota website for something like $110; is that a good price?
  8. Steve, which one is better out of the Klasse and P21S? I get the general feeling that I should use these products: Polish: P21S Cleanser? Sealant: Poorboys? Wax: P21S Carnuba Wax? Is there a one-stop website where I can get all 3? From the sounds of things, I think I need to nag my dad until he lets me use his credit(I could give him the cash of course; he is just paranoid; we already went through this...lol) card since I can't get any of these products in stores. I anxiously await your reply.
  9. Thanks, Steve ;) One more question for yall...how do I go about keeping my car this pretty? Here are my tentative plans: 1. Wash with car wash soap 2. Dry 3. Polish 4. Wax Do I need to polish, or can I leave out this step(I'll do it If I need to)? I just want my car to shine and feel silky smooth again :D !
  10. One last question...do I need to heat up the glue on my new gold emblems before I put them on?
  11. I feel like a horse's pa-toot for asking this , but how do you break the tail light with dental floss and a little heat from a hair-dryer? Also, the kit I bought is for a 95 or 96, so where can I go to get them to gold plate the emblem in the tailight, or would Lexus just sell me the "ES300?"
  12. I searched and had very little luck, so I was looking for a little more info on the emblem removal process especially for the emblem in the tail light. Does anyone know if there is an indentation in the tail light for the emblem located in it? By the way this is on a '94. I found in one post these steps: 1) Get a hairdyer and heat up the glue under the emblems 2) Get some dental floss or similar and work from one end of the emblem to the other. It looks like there is some adheasive on the back of the gold emblems that I bought; does this need to be heated also? Are their any pins or place holders on the emblems, or do I need to mark their places some kind of way?
  13. I think you're crazy; nahh I'm just joking with you ;) . It sounds more like a scam to me!!! They told me that they would have to reprogram some computer system that would only allow the new keys @$300 a piece to work. Maybe I should try back and talk to different parts rep.
  14. Larry, join the ES Idle Problem Club started my Amanda; I'm member #2 j/k. I think my problem is a vacuum problem somewhere because when I open the hood and listen there is a hiss coming from somewhere. Plus, my tranny acts funny sometimes, and I think the vacuum leak is the culprit. You're lucky... I feel the vibrations even while in park plus at red lights. My vibration is only in the idle rpm range like 700-1800 rpms. Good luck!!!
  15. Well, I dropped by my Lexus dealer and explained the situation to them. They gladly took the key back, but they have to send the old one back first; then, a new one can be made. The parts guy said it would take 6-7 days. I hope the new one works! Thanks as usual for all of the advice :D ; I knew I could count on yall!!!
  16. Alan, you're right about the non remote master. I ordered that when I ordered the valet key. The replacement remote key....they told me $315 for 1 key and a seperate reprograming charge that would not only cost me 1-1.5 hours of labor but the guy on the phone also told me that after this reprograming my current remote key would no longer work :( , so I would pretty much have to buy a whole new set of keys for $700-$800, or atleast that was my understanding. I certainly hope I misunderstood; I mean $800 for 2 keys is crazy
  17. I'm sure mine was the same way; it's just the poo-poo head I bought my car from only gave me the 2 remote keys and only 1 remote key works properly . I had to buy the wallet key, valet, and non remote master. Also, I called Lexus to see what a new remote key would cost, and they told me something like $315 per key plus they want like 1 hour for labor to reprogram the computer thus rendering my other remote key worthless. If I would order the ones off of lexus-parts, would they work with my current remote key, or is Lexus just trying to rob me on parts and service...again ?
  18. Steve, it's black. I'm gonna jump ahead of you here(I think I know what you're getting at)...I think they changed the valets to grey from black somewhere latter down the line, or atleast dare I say for my vintage Lex doesn't have have grey keys ! Better yet, here's a picture and yall can tell me since you guys know better than I do . The left is my remote key, in the middle is the non remote master, and far right is the valet I think.
  19. I'm 100% sure it's a valet key...that's why I'm so stumped <_< . It won't open the glove box or ski hole and it does start the car, open doors, and unfortunantly it opens the trunk . I bought one of those non remote master keys too; that's how I know the one I'm dealing with is a valet. If it does 2 out of the 3 functions of a properly functioning valet key, do I have a problem with my trunk key hole?
  20. I just picked up my valet key, and it is acting rather strangely <_< . The key won't fit in the glove box, but it does, however, open the trunk wonderfully thus eliminating the purpose of a valet key! It opens the door, starts the car, and does not fit in the inside access door to the trunk in the back seat, but like I said it opens the trunk. If it matters this is on my '94. What gives???
  21. Here are some pictures of my sparkling clean ES300
  22. I've decided to buy some seat covers off of the internet and have them installed locally. This way I'll be able to get my whole car done rather than just the two front seats(for the same price). So, would anyone happen to know the color code or name of the tan interior on a 1994 ES? I think Lexus calls it "Oak"... would this be the same for the leather manufacturer? I was looking at leatherseats.com and katzkin seat covers...are these any good?
