  1. steviej, it's one made by Maxwell...now which model I don't, but I'll let you know when I get home. ;)
  2. I am about to have my badly dried out steering wheel shipped to American Stitches, and let them recover it(only $259...is this a good price?). So, would an IS(there is one for $40 on ebay) steering wheel fit on my 94'? I don't care if the cruise control doesn't work; I just want it to mount. Just on a hunch I'm guessing that a camry wheel would fit? Any other suggestions....
  3. Wow look at all of the responses...thanks guys!! I bought one of those cd player cleaning discs, and it worked wonders for my changer!
  4. Haha, I love it....perfectly summed up: "corprate screw 'em" -steviej
  5. Steve, the funny part is the $10.50 for the plugs is at the Toyota dealer ;) .
  6. After searching the numerous posts on this, I still can't quite pinpoint my problem. On my way home from work all of a sudden my cd changer stopped working in the middle of a song, and displayed ERR. I am confident that the changer is getting power because it powers up and ejects/and takes in the magozine. And I am guessing that the wires are still good because I left the door open, and it said OPEN. While listening very closely to the changer unit itself I can hear 6 clicking sounds spaced evenly-I'm guessing it's searching through the six discs. I tried cleaning my CD's and unplugging and replugging the wires on the changer, and no luck. Lastly, while I was at a local toyota dealer today(buying new spark plugs-I was in for a rude awakening when the gentleman behind the counter told me they were $10.50 a piece...WOW...but I paid up anyways), I saw there was some kind of cd player cleaning service for like $7 or $8; would this be beneficial for me? All radio and tape functions are functioning properly just not the cd changer.
  7. sk, egr pipe....is that on the egr valve itself? I'm pretty sure my egr valve isn't dirty because it's only 2 months old. Where can I go to get the egr pipe cleaned?
  8. JPI, code P0402 is right on the money (I found it in my Lexus manual)! Maybe you can help me on my elimination process; I just bought an EGR vacuum modulator-installed it, yet the light stayed on after I dropped $85 for the damn thing. So, what are your thoughts on replacing the vacuum switching valve (VSV)? They seem to talk a lot about it in the service manual. The car idles quite roughly around 800-1400 rpms. We played with the vacuum hoses, so I no longer hear a hissing sound. How much should I expect to pay for a VSV?
  9. I think it's time you change the title of this topic...haha!!! You're no longer a "wannabe." I'm just glad you didn't go with an accord...Es's are way better anyways lol.
  10. Congrats on the new ES :D !!! Unfortunatley our local Lexus dealers have strong holds on us with the keys; I called my dealer yesterday(mine's getting a little old, and it doesn't always work right ), and they gave me a price of $352 for a remote key for my 94'... I told them what they could do with the $352. They also told me that I could get just the plain master key for $54, but I want the remote key . I don't think we have much of a choice on all-in-one remote key alternatives :( . Enjoy the car, and be careful with whom you leave it with because I let my mom drive my car once, and I got it back with scratches on the bumper. Luckily they were just light surface scratches that I was able to clean off.
  11. What brand of gas do you guys use? I get either Shell or Chevron(both 93 octane). I've heard that Chevron is supposed to be among the best because the techron is a fuel injector cleaner or something like that. Any thoughts....good or bad experiences with certian brands.....
  12. .....sorry about that-it usually helps when I answer the right question :chairshot: . In the city you should expect 320-330 miles and 430-440 on the highway depending on how far you like to push it(no pun intended...lol). (All based off of the EPA ratings of 18 in the city and 24 on the highway.)
  13. It depends on how many gallons you've used - remember that you have a 18.5 gallon tank. I usually go about 270-280 miles of city driving before filling up, and I still have about 4-5 gallons left. Does anyone know how many gallons are left when the orange light comes on? The other day mine started a real slow surge, and I still had 4.5 gallons in the tank <_< .
  14. There's no need to worry about the space in these fine machines. Try readjusting the seat height or something; there must be some sort of problem because I am 6 feet 3 inches and I have between 1.5 and 2 inches on top of my head. This is in a '94; however, I'd be willing to bet that there is more room in the '97-'01 models(they look a lot taller). To second bbsal don't get an accord; they are hideous, but that might be overlookable because of a 240 horse engine...nah!!! Get the Lexus even if you go with the '95; you won't regret it. Plus..you get to come and chat with us :D .
  15. Thanks Chris. Mine is "Cashmere Beige Metallic" (I think )-beige...my camera takes less than mediocre pictures. I need to get a new digital camera because the one that I have is quite old. The pictures it takes are huge(byte-wise). I have to take the picture on the lowest possible resolution and then put it in "paint" to crop a little more off so that the site will let me upload it. Back to our ES's...I've never seen a 92-96(...or gen 2 either) in silver-do they have they have silver in the US other than the 02/03? I think it(your silver car) is awesome too(no big modifications ;) ). Nice job with the badges!
  16. Gav, another solution suggested by skperformance is Meguiars tire(or wheel?) endourance. I have used both the silicon spray and tire endourance, and they both work great. I just find the silicon spray quite messy when you spray it-it goes everywhere but on the seals (and it reaks of gasoline ). The tire endourance is a liquid, so I find it's a lot easier to apply. The only thing that might keep you from buying tire endourance is: it cost about $8 for a nice sized bottle while the silicon spray is like $2 per can.
  17. Steviej, I bought the car from an individual--not Lexus cpo program, but the egr was serviced at my Lexus dealer. I was just wondering if you knew if they warrant their repairs-incase the egr is defective again. JPI- they didn't give me the codes, but I saw the code reader myself, and it said "excessive egr flow"-my 94 is OBD II compliant. I hope I don't need to take you up on your parts offer (thanks though). My dad thinks it is getting excessive flow because I have a lose vacuum hose somewhere(we can hear it hissing and it runs real rough[to the point where I can see the steering wheel shake]), and just can't find it yet.
  18. Steviej, I stopped at Autozone today and had them read the code(sure beated having to pay Lexus $100). While he didn't give me the exact code, the little machine read excessive egr flow. Why am I not suprised; the car had this problem before we bought it and it was supposedly fixed at the Lexus dealer. Do you think Lexus will fix it for free? The work was done about a month and a half ago. Does their work carry any kind of warranty?(I haven't further examined the vacuum hoses yet <_< )
  19. Just an update: While my car was running we lifted the hood and sure enough there is this loud hissing sound, so my father and I are almost sure it's a vacuum hose; can that turn the cel on? I will have to get that serviced; thank goodness it isn't the charcoal canister or could it be? thanks again steviej and jpi.
  20. Hello! My name's Blake(go figure;haha), I'm 16 years old live in New Orleans, LA. Right now I am working at an engineering firm for the summer, and I cut grass over the weekend. I am the very proud co-owner (w/ my parents) of a beige '94 ES. Just to second what Eric said my car was very affordable too; I got it for $6300 (a deal of a lifetime!!) with 105,000 miles in overall excellent condition with just the usual problems like worn leather, burnt needles, and that irritating power antenna. The thing that convinced me to get a Toyota is my friend has a 95 Camry V6 and after riding in it I couldn't believe how smooth the transmission and engine are, so after that, I forgot about the Taurus I was looking to buy(I'm 6'3 and 260lbs, so I needed a large car). The transmission is simply outstanding(when you floor it the car doesn't snap your neck 5 seconds after you pin it like 95% of US cars). I couldn't be any happier(wait a sec....an '03 would be great but I can gladly live with my beautiful 94). The only things I plan on doing to it are getting a K&N air filter and getting the steering wheel and front seats recovered; I would get a new stereo but I think an aftermarket face ruins the look of the beautiful dash. I'm going to be like the majority of the Lexus owners and leave it stock; I guess now I'm the outcast lol! I want to thank you all for the quick and accurate responses to my questions. This is by far the best owners' club. After college and I save for a long time, I hope to have my own new car dealership (guess what brand.....lol). Here's a pic of my ES!
  21. While I was driving my ES today, it started shuddering/almost wanting to die randomly at stop lights and while driving. My dad, who knows a great deal about engines(he completely rebuilt my brother's 3.0 V-6 [3vze] in a toyota pickup too), said it sounds like it's probably a vacuum hose problem or the charcoal canister. Does this sound like an accurate prognosis? I guess I should just go get the stupid code read, but I probably won't be able to do so until next weekend, so in the meantime this is killing me!
  22. Do you guys know if the '94 is "OBD II compliant." Also, do you all know how much Autozone charges for code reading? Thanks for the prior suggestions.
  23. I have a '94 ES with 107,000 miles. The check engine light has been on for over 2 months. I bought a new Lexus gas cap which is always screwed down at least 15 clicks(I've read in other post a loose cap can trigger the light, so I always make sure it is real tight.) and before I bought the car the egr valve was replaced by my local Lexus dealer. I am thinking I don't have a real problem because my gas mileage is right on par with a consistant 18-19 mpg in the city. Also, I have read in other post that overfilling the gas tank(which I do at every fill-up) can turn the check engine light on. Lastly, would one of these code readers on ebay(like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...tem=2422460427) work on my '94? Any ideas on what may be causing this; I know it usually has something to do with an engine sensor, but like I said before my gas milegae is good. I applogize for asking another one of these check engine light questions :chairshot: .
  24. I just ordered the exact antenna you are talking about, so I'll let you know if they are any good when mine comes in (probably next Wednesday). I couldn't take that grinding noise any more so I figured I would try this first because Lexus wants almost $30 for just the antenna mast. I hope it works; they must be decent-most of his feedback is pretty good.
