  1. It means that there is a rear bulb burnt ;) !
  2. I figured that. It would have been too easy!
  3. I still havent gotten my electrical problem fixed yet. I'm going to bring it to the dealer next week. I was just wondering if the battery light registers any codes in the ECU that will lead the techs down a very narrow path to fixing the problem right the first time? I guess what I'm getting at is does the light have certain codes like the check engine light?
  4. I agree! It looks too busy with all of those different colors like the white sandwhiched between the black/grey trim.
  5. Pull the fuse panel cover inside the car below the mirror controls, and you will see the plug(it looks like something you'd see on a computer) next to the fuses. If you can't find it, I'll snap a pic for you.
  6. Welcom to the club ;)! Your local Lexus dealer will gladly cut you a new Remote Master key to the tune of $300-$400! You just have to decide how badly you want the remote. I'm sure you can find an alarm with keyless entry; just make sure your installer knows what the hell he's doing so that he doesn't screw up the security system that's already in the car. Lexus-parts.com will get you 2 remote keys for like $300 I think. They check with Lexus's national registry to make sure that the customer's name matches the guy trying to order the key. If you haven't, call 1 800 25 LEXUS, and they will take care of you. Any OBD II code reader will work on your '94 and up ES. 1996 was the year that most cars were switched over, but the ES300 was changed with the new 1MZFE in '94. Have any check engine lights??
  7. I don't think the 00-01 wheel will work because of the different airbags. However, you can talk to American Stitches; they will reupholster and put wood if you want. I had them do my wheel in just leather, and it was $300 for everything(shipping, labor, etc.).
  8. To get the real OEM mats, I don't think there is a way of getting them from anyone but the dealer. You might get lucky and find a lightly used set on ebay, but that's about it! $185 seems a little high. I paid $120 for the new mats in my ES, and I'd say they were worth every cent! They make the interior look brand new B) !
  9. I did go for the '95 LS! It will leagally be mine on Monday or Tuesday! :D :D ...no more leg cramps for me!! Wow, I never thought this ground would be so debated! I tried it, and it works like a charm! Don't believe us...go buy 1 at PepBoys for less than $10 and switch it out-only 20 minutes taking your time. You'll be amazed! Things-powertrain mainly- seem to work better now, but it didn't cure the electrical problem that I've been having since Januaray . I'm going to bring the ES to my neighborhood Lexus dealer this week, and let them deal with the problem.
  10. Roy, he's just replacing his radio ;) not the whole stack. I dunno, Steve. Those look like two completely different colors-black vs. light grey. I'd bet they are; I know Lexus did this in the first gen ES3. The 95-96 interior colors are a lighter shades than the 92-94's. I was looking to put 95 seats in my car, but a few people told me not to because of the color differences. It looks like they've lightened up the color of the wood to match the grey plastic ;).
  11. First off, Welcome to the club :D! Tell us about your car...color, pics??? Your suspension problem is a very common one. I have it too; I just haven't gotten around to repairing it yet. I really get it only when I pull into the driveway to fast. The struts are most likely still good if they aren't exhibiting the common symptoms of a bad strut like floating, bottoming out, etc. I believe your problem lies in a suspension mount or swaybar mount back there. Something is wrong with your tranny. The quality of the engine/tranny is why I've turned into a Lexus freak. In my '94, I floor it at a light, and the car shoots off with out a flinch or thud; then she effortlessly shifts at the 6k redline marking B)...funnnnn! To start off you might want to change the fluid this weekend. If that doesn't help it might be a tranny mount or other tranny malfunction. Not a DIY'er? Luckily JPI is a Texan too. I think he's near Dallas. If you can't get the tranny figured out, take it to him, and he'll get you fixed up for cheap! As 1 owner put it when some asked about the longevity of a cared for Lexus: "you might as well put it in your will!"
  12. I'm very sorry to hear this :( . I hope you weren't injured. I'm sure pioneersbuy could give you all of the specifics of the deifferences between the Pioneer and Nak...try p.m.ing him as this isn't a very busy spot in the club!
  13. Do you guys think that the on the ASL(next to the tape deck) in the '98 will work in the '97? Also, I think the two different shades of color would drive me crazy . The '98 looks grey while the '97 is more of a pure black, or is it just a poor picture?
  14. Why did you get rid of your '99 LS? Like Steve said, German cars like MB and BWM are nice, but they are so expensive to keep up and fix a problem when one comes. I talked to a MB forum when we were looking at a S320. A lot of the guys in there actually set up separate bank accounts just for the car repairs . A sportier ride(mainly BMW) that will eventually annoy you is just not worth the poor reliability!
  15. The car gets to warm up the 5 seconds it takes for me to fasten my seat belt ;) ; then, I go! All temperatures are not the exact(as I'm sure they're not anywhere!) same, but I'd say that this week it has been 50 deg. +/- 5 deg. Alan, Just wondering why are you convinced that something else is heating my car quicker? I find it weird to, but it is way too much of a cause and effect!
  16. Nope! Just decided to change it! I think I remember reading that you said how much it helped out your car as well as a few other members. This new wire is massive! Next to the stock wire, the new one makes the old look like dental floss! Great idea about the quicker warm-ups! ;)
  17. I agree...that's why I do it ! I'm probably wasting a little money, but it makes me feel good to put premium in like you said ;)!
  18. The hell if I know! I'm no mechanic! However, I do have simple evidence that has lead me to this belief...the ambient temps are all very close: on my morning drive to school the heater cuts on automatically right before I drive through the toll booth(I also make a note that the engine temperature is dead center on the gauge). Everyday since the switch, the car temp is dead center on the gauge, and the heater is on about a mile earlier than with the old wire! I also don't understand why the car shifts (and runs)smoother, but their's no doubt in my mind whatsoever that it does because I analize just about every(not all!!!) shift(I get bored in the car sometimes!) the tranny makes, and it's a lot more graceful when the tranny is in warm-up mode holding the gears as well as driving around town. This makes me happy :D ! All of this is a little to coincidental to be chance/luck! I drive the exact same route and drive in the same if not exact same manner too. At 6:30 when I head out for school, I'm not in a sporting type of mood, so I rarely floor it which might help with the warm up speed. Also, since the new wire, it has happened every, single, solitary day. It just doesn't add up to be luck to me!
  19. This is very contraversial! Some say that they use 87 and are ok, but I've never put anything but Premium Shell or Chevron gasolines in my car just to be on the safe side! Plus down here premium is only like 10cents more than mid grade and around 15cents from 87. It's just not worth it to skip to me! Just my $.02
  20. Oh yeah! BestBuy has several nice hand-helds with turn by turn directions for under $1500....like the Street Pilot and some others from Magellan. Take a look here: GPS's at Best Buy
  21. I had a little extra time this weekend, so I decided to put in a new ground wire because I've heard so many people say how awesome they are! I agree :D ! My car is like a completely different animal; it runs better, shifts smoother, and warms up quicker which is really nice on cold mornings! I still have that dam electrical problem though which I was kinda hoping this would cure(...but didn't); the battery light payed me 2 visits this morning after not seeing me for 3 weeks!! I'm going to go see a mechanic or the dealer to get this fixed. Does the computer hold any codes for the battery warning light? That would be awesome if it did; then, it would probably be an easy fix. The parts are well under $10(@ Pepboys) for the 1 gauge wire and less for the higher gauges. Also, it takes very little time to do-maybe 20 minutes or 30 to really take your time.
  22. Thanks UCF3 ;) . 99, Thanks for the explaination...a very good one too! The '95 didn't display any of the symptoms that you listed. I took my hands off of the wheel and the car just kept tracking down the road nice and straight! The current owner told me that the dealer(Toyota I think) told him that he needs new shocks, but I kinda find this hard to believe because the car's ride was very controled at both 35mph and 85mph! B)
  23. Thanks for chiming in JPI :D !...he's such an asset to the club and a real helper :D .He talked to me on AIM for an hour about my electrical gremlin in my ES! It's always good to hear from the mechanical expert! I think I'm going to hold off on the wiper motor on the ES; I'd rather save all of my money for(hopefully!) the '95 LS. JP, the car(ES) has been great...no battery lights. I leave the lights, a/c, and stereo on all the time with no problems; I watch the tach like a hawk with all of the above on plus the wipers. 99 just informed me that the 1uzfe is an interferance engine :o ...so the timing belt is a must(where as I can just wait for it to pop in the ES!)! I'm almost thinking about doing that before the leather repairs since the engine is nothing to take a gamble with! :D I'm doubtful of any mounts being bad because the car was smoooth...no vibrations ever during any point during my 40 min. test drive! I floored it at 80mph and the car just hauled a@s; no flinching or anything like that. What's a lower ball joint?? You guys are great; thanks for chatting with me about my possible purchases!
  24. My '94 does this, and it drives my crazy . I even get it when I make sharp turns...let off for the turn, and then press it once I get out. The car jumps a little .
