Wouldn't a home equity loan be for a longer term? Also I think it takes a couple weeks to get one through. I'd go with the Lexus loan and try to pay it off early. Dunno about gaps.

When they did the reflash on my car they put a sticker with the TSB number and the date performed on the underside of the hood. They may also put it in the maintenance log/owners manual. Also a Lexus dealer should be able to pull up the history of the car and see if the reflash was done. As for opening up old threads, some of this stuff was never answered. Some will gripe if you post a new thread and some will gripe if you open an old one. Personally I have no problems with either.

This is not a good idea.

Has your car had the ECU reflash? That helps a lot with the shifting, especially the 1-2 shift.

How do you turn a 14.0 1/4 mile with a slushbox? If the trans doesn't shift fast, then it ain't gonnna turn that kind of times. Of course, as with any car, driving experience and familiarity with the car helps.

IS models are a very low percentage of overall Lexus models, if it's stricktly the IS you're referring to. We have quite a bit of IS350/250 activity at http://my.is/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=126 You'll need the FCC code from your smart key to get in. Personally I liked to cover LOC, My.IS, and IS350 forums because you pick up different knowledge in different places. The only problem I have with this IS forum is that the last couple of prospective buyers were turned off by negative posts re the new IS cars by non owners with sometimes erroneous info. I realize we aren't shills for Lexus, but noobs are liable to believe what they read here and some of it just ain't right.

I know what you mean. My IS350 has a little drop down compartment there. Getting dealer parts might be expensive. Maybe some will be on Ebay. I got a JDM dash tray for my IS300 from a guy in Hong Kong, on Ebay. It was genuine Toyota part at abut half the going price.

3 years in IS300 and now IS350 and I have no complaints tansmission wise. I see some of the other models have had some problems, but we're talking IS models here.

It's certainly no slushbox, not by anyones measure. Mid to low 5's zero to sixty times letting the trans shift by itself, ain't no slushbox.

I would suggest that you take an extensive test drive and then decide. It works fine for me, and so did the IS300 version, but that's just me.

The transmissiion will not shift to a higher gear than you have selected. It will, however, downshift based on throttle postion, load etc. Think of it this way. If you select gear 4, you are essentially driving with a 4 speed trasnsmission. You can start in 1 and have total control of up shifting with the paddles. The car will not shift any higher than what you tell it to. When slowing down, or punching the throttle, etc, the transmission will downshift as it thinks is necessary. In "S" mode you may also upshift and downshift by pushing the gear selector lever forward for up and back for down. You may use either the paddles or the gear lever whenever in "S" mode.

Audis are even less reliable than the other German brands. The situation reminds me of the old days in motorcycle riding. There were lots of Triumph fans, but even they admitted that it was "ride a while and tinker a while". The riding was fine when they were running, and that had to be good enough to offset the downtime. The Japanese bikes at the time weren't as sporting, but the owner got lots more seat time.
