I believe the heater circuits are wired in series, so if one is bad they will both read bad. Only way to tell is to ohm them out individually by disconnecting the plugs and measuring.

the fluid should be changed. If it is discolored or smells burnt, the fluid has broken down. I would not flush, but to a drain and fill. The other possibility is a fluid exchange. It uses the cars pump to change the fluid. Most flushing machines have this capability. YOU would probably need about 10 or 11 qts to do this. The AWD has a capacity of 9.8 qrts total. A drain and fill will take 4.3 qts.

The tranny hold 9.8 qts, but for a flush you will need a couple extra. If the fluid is burnt smelling or real dark I would not do a flush. I would do a drop the pan and clean the filter, then top off, Then the next normal oil change I would drain the fluid and top off, and then do one final fluid change the next oil change. Yep, just enought to remove the nut safetly and then remove the shock mount and shock strut from the spring. When putting a new strut and shock mount in pay very close attention to the orientation of the spring and the shock mount. The instructions with the strut should tell you this.

Yes I am using a spring compressor from harbor freight. They have a new type which I have not used looks like a nice design, but the old ones with basically two threaded shafts with spring grips work well. YOu only have to compress enough to remove the nut on the shock then you can carefully remove the strut from the spring.

No, the toyota dealership is cheaper than that. You shouldnt pay more than $450 tops.

5-30 is what I have used, but at 140k miles I switched to 0-30 Castrol oil (German). The engine is definetly smoother, and seems to be quieter. I now have 150k miles and it has worked well.

BE very careful, remove the strut assembly from the car and use a proper spring compressor. They are rentable, or readily available at Harbor Freight tools. That spring can hurt you pretty bad if it slips while compressing it. Then you can remove the mount after compressing the spring.

I guess your location has caused them to be corroded, mine came off real easy, I would soak them overnight with a penetrating oil like PB blaster. You could file a couple of parallel flat spots on the threads and try to hold that area with visegrip while turning the wrench to break the nuts loose. then just run a die over the threads after removing the nut.

Jaguar XKE (1968) by far the funnest car to drive, but what a beast. Good points everyone, I am going to pursue this with the Manager of the Store, he unfortunately was at a funeral that afternoon. Maybe I can get a few concessions from him. If this was a policy when I purchased the tires originally it should have been disclosed. Fortunately I had the ability to purchase the tires, and the car does ride better. I got almost 50k on the original tires and my wife noticed the ride difference. As RX said I got hosed, sort of, I did elevate to the assistant manager and got some concessions, (prorations on the other three tires and free mounting and balancing) $550 out the door isnt all that bad considering the pricey Michelin Cross Terrains. I am a business member at costco and have 16 memberships under my name, I also have been a long time member dating back to when Costco was Price Club, So this next week we will see if the manager gives me some consideration. Money is money, and 20k miles of lost mileage is 20k miles of lost revenue in my pocket.

I offered up front to replace two tires on one axle, but Costco declined, said four or none....West thank you I tried to explain to Costco that the 99 RX was indeed a very different animal, but they dont look at specifics. My only real complaint now is that Costco should have disclosed this policy at the time of my original tire purchase... No where was it written on my original contract, as well as the new one. I will follow up on this, I admit that my tires would have been replaced in 20kmiles anyway, but by my choice, not Costco's.

I believe they are on top of the transmission, but that is all I can tell you, assessable by removing the Air filter box.

Well here's the story, I had a road hazard failure on one of my front tires (Michelin Cross Terrains) and they have 5/32 left of tread. When I went to Costco to get that tire replaced under warranty, I was informed that because my vehicle is AWD that they could only replace all 4 tires because of safety concerns. (Costco Policy) which by the way was never stated when I purchased the tires four years ago. Man, four tires when I only planned on one. I called Lexus of AMerica to get a statement of their policy, and they would not commit, but passed me to the local dealership (Lexus of Sacramento) Where I spoke to the Service Manager who said they had replaced a single tire many times with no problems, except that they would not back that up because I was at a third party vender(Costco). I am furious, one because when I bought the tires I was promised road hazard which they would commit to, but only on that one tire, the other 3 would be at full cost, two: because when I bought the tires nowhere on their contract does it state the weird warranty for the AWD/four wheel drive vehicles, and THree: No where in the owners manual does it state their is a problem other than using different size tire on the vehicle for replacement with the other ones being a different size. I finally got mad enough to get all four tires to be adjusted, but it was only $18 per tire for a $165 tire. They did not charge for mounting, but all taxes and disposal fees applied. Nice to have all new tires but quite frankly they would have gone another 20k miles on the old tires. What does everyone think about this????

It is a water hose that is impossible to change without removing the intake manifold, while you are in there it would be cheap preventative maintenance to replace it.

I agree, sounds like the dealership did some poor maintenance....
