  1. The tranny fluid has to warm up to 153 degrees to run normal. So yes, It is normal to shift late when cold. Yes, I have a 2000 Ls400, same thing, talked with lexus dealership, transmission has to warm up, then it runs smoothly. :chairshot:
  2. I guess it all depends on how much driving you do a week. for me, my average is $40 to $50 a week for gas. San francisco bayarea gas price is $3.79 a gallon for premium gas and could be a llttle bit lower if you buy at Costco. since I do not drive too much, I will only put in that amount that i had mention above, and it will last me one week. I will not get a full tank of gas, but 3/4 full is enough for me. I will drive it until i have 1/4 tank left. One Shell Gas station in San Francisco is selling regular gas for $4.25 a gallon. the owner is having problems with Shell Gas Company, so he decided to sell it high, and then walk away from his business, he doesn't care if he makes any sales at all. One newsstation sat at that station for 11 minutes before someone came in to buy gas, and was informed of the price, driver didn't see the price as he was driving in. he was told that the gas station across the street was alot cheaper than here.
  3. Landar, Thanks for the reply, taking my chance that they may honor it. I did write down what he told me on the warranty form the same day I purchased it. I guess when i do the 90K miles service, and the service writer tells me the timing belt is okay, and no need to change it. at least it will be written down. and if the T belt does go out later, then everything will be cover by the warranty, before it expires. :chairshot:
  4. I have a 2000 Lexus LS400 with 87,500 miles and it is due for service at 89,750. this becomes 90k mile service which suppose to check the timing belt. Lexus service tech writer stated they would inspect the belt, but usually you wouldn't need to change it until at least 120K miles. My question to you all, If I have an Extended warranty, would the timing belt replacement be covered. my tech writer states no. When I had purchased this extended warranty, the Lexus dealership person who sold it to me stated yes, so I had asked him this question 2 times, if and when the engine mileage reaches 90K, and the tech writer stated that this vehicle needs a new timing belt, would this warranty cover it. he stated yes. I dont regret buying this extended warranty, because I have used it already, and have recoup my money already. Just wanted your opinions. thanks to all .
  5. I agree with you 100% I had a 92 LS400, tried using 87 octane, had bad gas mileage, and the car ran bad. instead of filling up once a week, had to fill up twice aweek. premium gas here in california is $3.60 per gal (SF bay area) will always use premiun gas for my 00 LS400
  6. :chairshot: Check out these two websites, this should help you out. www.streetkeys.com www. keylessride.com :)
  7. :chairshot: 1st , You get what you paid for. 2nd, you need a suv for driving in sand and lousy pavement. Lexus has suv. try goodyear assurrance comfortred triple tread tires, probably made in china like everything else :whistles: my opinion only.
  8. The only company that i know is: Matson for shipping vehicles, many years ago, it was about $400 to ship. Always remove anything that can be taken off of your vehicle, especially if it is worth any money. :chairshot: you might google your question. Aloha
  9. Lexus / toyota has been a very reliable vehicle for me. this is my third lexus vehicle. had a 93 ES300 brand new, kept it for 3 years and sold it with only 15k miles on it. my second Lexus was a 92 LS 400 used with 158K miles on it. purchased for $5K and drove it for 2 years, only needed a new battery and new tires. trade it in for a 2000 LS 400. this current vehicle had minor problems, new battery and trottle body unit, and also new bulbs for brake lights. with extented warranty, I had cover the cost of my trottle body unit which occur 5 month after I purchased this vehicle. both LS400 runs great. I used to purchase Large american made vehicles, but they break down after 20k miles, transmission burned up, lousy customer services from dealership :chairshot: I know, some time lexus dealership can be a pain, but at most, they do try to please you. You don't have to buy brand new Lexus, just find a good clean used Lexus, and it will look brand new to other people. :)
  10. 2000 lexus ls 400 84,500 miles. just did the 85k service / safety check by lexus dealership, cost: nothing :whistles:
  11. I also had this concern, took it to the lexus dealership, they told it was normal, trans fluid had to warm up. usually after 2 blocks, my trans works normal. :whistles: 2000 LS400
  12. :chairshot: Had the same problem, twice, 00 lexus ls400. the first time, it occurred in my garage, rolled my car out into the street. engine still running. step on gas pedal, nothing happens, vsc light was on, so i shut off engine, re start engine, and everything was okay. took it to dealership, they could not pull the code on it. told me to keep on driving it. this occurred in august of 06 In oct of 06 drove down to L.A Ca. as i was getting off the freeway, the vehicle slowed down, but the engine was steal running, and I could not accelerate when I stepped on the gas pedal. was able to row across a large intersection and pull over. I shut off the engine, and restarted it. I was now able to accelerate, and drove to my hotel. engine light and vsc light was on. The next day drove it to lexus dealership, they replaced the whole throttle body unit, I asked if it was the tps unit , they said yes, but decided to replace the whole unit. Thank god I purchase the extented warranty, took them 3 hrs to replace it. No problem now. Yes it cost me $1500 for extented warranty, dealership charged the warranty work $1295 to fix my problem. at least i was still able to go to Disneyland and not up front $1295.00 :cries:
  13. I had a 92 ls400 with 158,000 and when i let this vehicle sit in the garage for a week, the vehicle will spit out blue smoke when i first start it. after that, I have no problems. I purchased a used 00 ls 400 in june of this year, had 75k miles on it. I let this vehicle sit in my garage for a week also due to vacation. when I started it up, it also spit out blue smoke, this vehicle had been service every 5k mile according to service record that I recieved from lexus dealership. No problem with blue smoke spitting out now. Drove 1500 miles over thanksgiving weekend with no problem. :P
  14. I was given a web site to replace vehicle keys with remote control, once you get into that web site, it ask you for year and make of vehicle and then model. another web site ask for vin # and make, to see if it has a remote for it. I am not sure if this forum allows me to put in this web site. Administrator please advise me. If so, I will give it to you. :whistles:
  15. nc211 I had purchased this vehicle in June 2006 w/ 75800 miles on it. brought it from dealership. How would you know if throttle body was dirty, I don't think dealership would take it apart for inspection prior to selling vehicle. I am not a DIY person. :chairshot: this vehicle had gone thru all maintance proceedure, and I guess prior owner and service dealer never talked about cleaning throttle body unit. How many miles would this unit last before you have to clean it out. is their a preventive measure to keep this unit clean? thanks
  16. Couple of months ago, I wrote about my engine stalling and not able to accelerate, with the VSC light on also. When I had it checked out couple of month ago thru Lexus dealship, they could not find out what was wrong, and gave me my car back without fixing the problem. :cries: Last thursday, I drove over 400 miles to Los Angeles, Ca. as I exit the freeway, the check engine light, VSC light came on, and the engine would not accelerate when I stepped on the gas pedal, I coasted across a large intersection, and came to a stop. I then shut off the engine, and restarted it again. and I was able to proceed to my hotel. The next day, I took my Lexus LS400 (2000) to the closes Lexus dealership, which was in Westminister. The check engine light and VSC light was still on. I was not able to find the Lexus Service department, but did fine the Lexus show room, I pulled in and asked the saleman, he told me the service department was 4 blocks away, I restarted my engine, and guess what? The check engine light and VSC light went out. :whistles: After I arrived at the service department, I told the service writer what had happen, she told me to give her half an hour for the mechanic to check into my problem, about 45 mins later, she told me the problem was the throttle body unit. and would need to be replaced. I asked if it was just the sensor, and she said the whole unit needed replacement. Thank God for my Extended warranty that I had purchase when I brought my Lexus in June of this year. The mechanic took another hour to replace the unit and they also washed my car for me, which really needed after driving over 400 miles. So after couple of months, I have finally resolved my problem with this vehicle.
  17. Took my 00 LS400 back to dealership twice, dealership has given me a loaner twice already with no problems. Can't complaint at this time, and they did correct my problems the first time.
  18. Thanks for the reply. The car is not acting up at this time. Transmission fluid and filter has been replaced numerous of time already. This LS400 has been serviced frequently by previous owner, I have the service records for this vehicle since the first owner purchased this vehicle. 2000 lexus LS400 with 77,500 miles on it.
  19. The other day I started my car in the garage, I put it in reverse and it rolled out into the driveway, as i stepped on the gas pedal, no gas was feeding into the engine, the engine was still running, the power steering and power brake was working. I then put the gear shift into drive, and and stepped on the gas pedal, still no gas going into engine, I even floor the gas pedal in reverse and in drive with no result. I then decided to shut off the engine and start it all over again, and guess what? everything went back to normal, anybody knows why this happen? :cries: Second question, when in drive and going down a hill, will the transmission go into 2nd gear by itself, and even when you step on the gas pedal the transmission is in 2nd gear, after awhile it goes back to drive. when going down another hill, the trans is still in drive which i would then have to use my brakes to slow the vehicle down. This only occurs when i first start up my vehicle everyday, otherwise it is normal thru out the day. 2000 LS400 Platium series thanks for any replies
  20. Had a dent on my left front door of my 00 LS400, dealership had the dent pulled without taking inside door panel out. it was a sub contractor who did the job for the dealership. NO MORE DENT! No charge from dealership, because dent was noticed by me after picking up car, service writer did not argue with me, told me to bring it in on a friday, and they will take care of it. AND THEY DID!
  21. The Lexus maintence book states, 90K or 72 month to replace T/B you are over due. I just purchased a 2000 Lexus LS400 platinum series with 75800 miles on it. Same issue as you. I have purchased gold package extended warranty from dealership. warranty and seller have conflicting answer to T/B issue. I asked him if the tech guys stated that My T/B needed to be replaced, would my warranty cover it. he stated yes, I asked him 3 different ways, and he stated yes. but when you read the warranty, it states that if the tech tells you it needs to be replace it will not be covered. it only cover it if it fails, and since the tech told you it needs to be replace, and you don't do it, and it breaks 5 month later it will not be cover at all. Car saleman stated that the T/B would not damage the engine if the T/B broke, who do you believe? :chairshot: Can anyone tell me what is a Platinum series LS400? thanks I traded in my 92 LS400 with 173,060 miles had it for 2 years, saleman told me I should sell it on my own, would get more money for it. I got $1800 for it, didn't want the chore of trying to sell it. had been in a accident before I was 2nd owner. Front end had been replaced, the LCD was turning black, but good thing the car was sitting in the sun, and the interior heated up, and LCD was working for that short period of time. :whistles:
  22. :chairshot: Sig P229 SAS 40 CAL. rather be safe than sorry. We can keep on going. The bad guys will alway have a gun. The law abiding cititzen with a gun will end up in jail, and then be sued by the bad guy. :cries: leave my Lexus alone!
  23. I was reading the inside of my visor, it states after 10 yrs of vehicle being in service, the SRS airbag should be services by lexus dealership or certified machanic, my question is, how do we service the airbag system, what needs to be done. I have been lexus dealership twice this past year for oil change, and they have never mention about this service. I have a 92 LS400.
