  1. Simply call the dealer & ask them. I assume they will take care of it.
  2. My personnel plan on this type of work consists of calling the Lexus dealer & asking for the # of hrs. they charge u for this job. If it is over 2 or so hrs. I usually figure it is going to be a considerable chore not to be taken lightly. Also in ft. end work there some specialty tools needed to do it. If u are friends with the service dept. sometimes they will print off the steps for u. If not take it to a front end shop & have it done. After it is complete usually the front needs to be aligned which u cannot do yourself.
  3. A good decision I believe. As posted the newer systems are quite a bit better, but all the integrated software is quite complicated and made to be bot as a package, and probably would cause migrains if tampered with. As I stated there is a completely separate manual for the 2007 nav system which covers radio, climate controls and a multitude of other items along with navigation. I can't imagine the cost to have repairs made to it.
  4. My '07 came with the NAV system, and personally I would not waste the time trying to install one. My NAV is vague, and difficult to use in almost all aspects, and it is working "properly". The separate manual for it is about 1/2 " thick, and reading it would also be a waste of time, when you could plug in a Garmin , Tom Tom, or other GPS unit and have it operating in just a few seconds. I did enlist the assistance of a Lexus tech which helped with the shortcuts, but the system is still as I stated previously. In his words Lexus builds fine cars, not fine NAV systems. I guess my point is even if you are looking at plug & play, prepare to be somewhat disappointed. Good luck.
  5. Since your coolant IS leaking and no signs of it on the ground it is evaporating off of a hot engine component before it hits ground. With that many miles and (no) record of a water pump repl. that is probably a good idea if no leak can be spotted with the engine running.
  6. My take is this, go by your temperature gauge. If it does not rise above normal during warm weather and stop and go driving, then why worry about fan speed? If u feel the engine is running hot, then it will need to be diagnosed by a dealer with the proper equipment.
  7. Joan, U don't say how many miles on your vehicle, but it could also be a rear strut. As previously stated the car needs to be on a hoist to get checked correctly, but the cost is usually reasonable to have that done. Good luck
  8. Suzanne, I would hazard a guess that there is and has been a grounding problem w/ your vehicle. I think 2 batteries in 5 yrs. is one too many, so it is probably time to take it to a good mechanic to find the problem. Good luck!
  9. Here is my take on these "inspections" First thing is know what u are looking for. If u don't know, how would u tell if something needs attention? Secondly, if u don't have the proper tools or are not mechanically inclined, let the dealer do the inspections. Their prices are usually reasonable for this, unless of course, if u need a bunch of work done. Then is when decisions need to be made. Hopefully u can trust your dealer to be perfectly honest. Personally I like to make sure the fluids are in good condition and not skimp on them.
  10. I would think towing would be quite expensive. Maybe u could ask the dealer if they are able to check the 'ENGINE MANAGEMENT COMPUTER or something in that category. Possibly a "used auto parts yard" would have the part u need if someone can figure out which one it is. I'm just trying to use common sense as I'm not a software expert. Sorry about u're non warranty.
  11. I can't think of any reason for this symptom except for a mighty software failure. Altho I have had 3 ign. coils fail in less than 80k on my '07 rx350, they were simply grasping at straws with their diagnosis. Since u have a warranty suggest to them that they start replacing computers until they find the bad one. They are mechanics, not software engineers which is why they can't figure this problem out. Obviously someone doesn't want to spend the needed funds to remedy your problem. Good luck!
  12. There seem to be many different qualities of pads and rotors. Aftermarkets are ok in my opinion as long as they are of the quality of original Lexus parts. Unless u are racing your vehicle I don't think u need slotted rotors or ceremic pads. Just my take.
  13. I don't think they are much of a Lexus dealer, and I would give them some bad publicity if given the chance. However, I have a 2007 rx w/ nav. and I think it's difficult to work with and just a pain. Do yourself a favor, get a nice Garmin or etc. and be happy with it. As a Lexus guy told me, Toyota is not in the Nav. business, they want to sell cars.
  14. Hi Karen, I have the same Lexus as u with many less miles on it. What confuses me is (1) why a dealer would drain just a little trans. fluid out & just put a little in when all the fluid could come out and be replaced. It takes around 4 qts. Why would anyone, especially a dealer stop any sooner especially if the fluid was discolored. My theory is they did not touch your trans. drain plug and had no clue as to the condition of it. (2) Why a dealer would not replace any trans. fluid with 265,000 k on it. It should have been replaced at 100,000 or around that milage in my opinion. Their defination of "permanant" is very loose indeed. U could call a professional trans. shop & ask if there is any trans. fluid that "never needs to be replaced." My solution is this; Go talk to the dealer where the car has been serviced, and explain your situation, and ask for some "goodwill" as to the repairs. If they do not agree to help u, explain to them that u are very dis-satisfied with their "service" & that u will call Lexus customer service with a very pointed discussion as to their service on your vehicle. Of course the dealer won't like it, but the alternative is a huge expense for u. Good luck, Steve
  15. there is another oil line connected with 2 rubber hoses. they are under a tremendous amount of pressure. the new part comes with aluminum bent connections. If u haven't got the right one, do it before one of those rubber lines splits and pumps the oil out of the engine.
  16. U R correct. The engine is not seized and repairs will not be cheap. I have heard u can pull the plugs, and get a camera inside the cylinders to check for damage. U need a good honest mechanic to diagnose this for u before trying a different engine. Good luck, u're going to need it.
  17. Based on everything that's been said, I'm fairly sure the car has been wrecked and not repaired in a timely manner. I chased a small leak in the trunk of my old RX 300. It took awhile to find, mainly using trial and error but I had it narrowed down. Mine had been hit in the rear. Don't know if I'd be too excited about keeping the vehicle because of other probs that are likely to occur down the road. Good luck.
  18. It sounds like the a/c drain is either disconnected or there is a hole in the drain hose. See if water drains on the ground when the a/c is running. It should.
  19. You need to be sure that u have to replace the whole unit. Hopefully the dealer was honest about it. If that's the case u should be able to locate a used unit from a used parts yard on the internet, however it will be expensive and including the installation costs, I see no cheap way out.
  20. unless u use a strut designed for performance handling I think most of them are about the same. Depending on price, some may last longer than others. It's the tires that will change the ride characteristics.
  21. If your wheels just need touching up, the milenium silver works pretty good. It's a lexus color.
  22. There should be a way to either drain and replace the fluid or just have an exchange performed by a shop with the proper machine. I definately would have it done.
  23. This is a little off the wall, but before I bought my 2007 RX 350, I heard nothing but the bad things about the BMW SUV, so I went with a used RX. I was fortunate enough to have obtained all the Lexus service records so I believe it will be a fine vehicle.
