  1. It is my opinion that lexus may have considered some help had you provided documentation of a transmission fluid change at around 50k or so miles. Of course the trans. may have been abused contributing to the failure.
  2. Sure. Altho I had 60k on my RX, I called Lexus customer service and asked for a little "goodwill" concerning the steering rack on the premise that this was a continuing problem with their racks. I maintained that a properly built steering rack should last a long time without leaking through the seals. I also told them I would buy an aftermarket unit (much cheaper) if I could not get any satisfaction. Good Luck
  3. I had the same problem, called Lexus, and got them to foot the bill for the rack, but I had to pay labor, which was not cheap. but better than nothing. Racks leaking was a problem with those cars.
  4. And along those lines some shops will make U believe they need to pull the engine, when they know very well how to do the job without doing that. Of course the rate will be the same as if they really pulled the engine. An informed customer is the best defense. This club is like gold!!
  5. Michelle, I put a set of Nexen nferas on mine. The reviews were good and priced right. U may want to check them from tire buyers.com. I know they have a big factory in Korea.
  6. If it was me and I was lucky enough to get a store credit from Rock Auto I would buy another brand. Buying from your mechanic in the first place probably would have been a good option. Now it looks like you're on the hook.
  7. I would reinstall my old radio and see if the problem corrects itself. If so return the new one and get a refund.
  8. I would start by removing the circuit board under the driver side window switches and spraying all the connections with an electronic spray cleaner, let dry completely, and try again.
  9. I also drive that vehicle and notice the tapping noise. Don't believe it's fuel injectors. Timing chain comes to mind, but I don't know. As for fuel I use 89 mid grade gas of a major brand and have none of the mentioned ills. I think there is a little less power, however if the computer is operating properly the engine should compensate for lower octane gas and not ping.
  10. My opinion is if U don't need a big suv and require 25 mpg I would buy a nice car instead of a hybrid. There are many very nice cars that ride great and get really good mileage. The upkeep is also somewhat less to boot.
  11. that button is connected to the automatic vehicle leveling system and can change the height of the vehicle for easier loading or etc.
  12. (1) turn off heater (2) roll down windows or (3) Pull the fuse
  13. Without knowing any more than was posted, I believe that dealer is B sing U. I say this because even if the car was in a wreck before u got it and not repaired properly, the moisture problem would have surfaced far sooner than now. If u get no satisfaction on Fri. I would take the car to a certified auto body repair shop, and have them check it and put their results in writing.
  14. Deb, Maybe a low mileage '12 or so would be a fit for U. Haven't seen many used ones on the web site but their are quite a few internet places to look. Good luck!
  15. I agree with your mechanic, 260k miles is enough. My reasoning is software wise more than mechanically. There are so many computers in these cars, and they are all expensive to replace. I guess a reasonable low mileage '12 to '15 would be a good bet, certified by a dealer if possible. Being used, U can research it on the internet and determine by service records if the car has been a lemon, which U cannot do with a new one. Also a Lexus dealer will print out service records for u especially if they know u are interested. I had heard (somewhere on our web site) that Lexus and Toyota had somewhat cheapened their products (I don't know the years) in order to become # 1 in the world in auto sales, but that is purely speculation. I do know that most of the ign. coils in my 2007 went bad before 80k, which I deemed quite unnecessary. Also the steering rack was leaking at 50k and was noted on service records. On the other hand mine has all the options, and so far they have been reliable. My sister's '13 has been quite reliable, but only has 20k on it. The service records should tell a good story for u.
  16. Good question Deb. Lots of considerations here. (1) Is size a factor as the newer models keep getting larger as the years go on? (2) Do U want a RX that doesn't need too much maintenance (newer and more money) or an older one which will need more? Keep in mind that if U have to have a dealer do it the costs are substantial. Also, older ones with low miles on them seem to be hard to find as they are usually driven alot. (3) The care of a used RX before U get it is important. Personally I wouldn't buy any RX without knowing past history, because most vehicles, if not cared for properly will not be a "good" one for U to buy. (4) If U can get a decent deal from a dealer on a used one they will certify the later models saving U the hassle of having a private mechanic go over a vehicle. The cost of peace of mind from a dealer is usually "built in", but I feel worth it. (5) Any RX 300 or 330 will need the timing belt changed by 100k miles which ends up at least $500 and up. Hope this helps. Any questions plz ask.
  17. Sandy, Glad U got to post these items. I will give my opinions, of course without seeing or knowing any more of your car than U entered. Firstly, I don't understand $1700 for the 95k maintenance. Did U notice any issues or did the dealer "find" all the suddenly needed repairs? If they made it sound as if these things "had to be done right now" it sounds like a mis-truth. Second, I fail to comprehend why all these things were discovered between 95 and 100k miles when U returned for that visit. This sounds like waaaay too many issues to crop up in only 5k miles. Auto shops make quite good money doing service work even if they really do everything they say . If I have any advice for U it would be to find a reputable independent mechanic, take your car to him, and request he do a complete check-up for U. U can see what he recommends and go from there. Good luck, Steve OK, Timing belt absolutely necessary. Lexus paid for a new steering rack for mine (a recognized problem) I had to pay labor for installation. ($700) My Lexus dealer's fav, trick is to replace the cabin filter for $75. U can buy a new one for $12 and it takes all of 10 min. to install it. Next post Sandy: The trans.fluid (also transaxle ,same thing) should be changed in my opinion by 100k or so because it gets hot and wears out. Not a hard job at all, there is a drain plug. Most trans shops should do it for $200 or less. Use the Toyota fluid or recognized generic. Transfer case, same reasons, not a hard job either since I did mine myself.
  18. save yourself the expense and cumbersome operation of the Lexus nav. system, buy a Garmin on sale on line, and be done with it.

  21. I wonder if anyone has tried the Nexen tires. (tire buyer.com) They seem to have some good ratings with a very reasonable price.
  22. This was a prob for Lexus. U may want to call them and discuss the prob. with them/ Maybe they will help u.
  23. If U get snow where u are and need a vehicle to cope w/ it, then look around for an AWD. The only extra maintenance for AWD is changing transfer case and rear diff fluid around 90 or 100k. As for price U need to have someone who knows what they are doing to drive and inspect it. Any 10 yr. old car can be great or need a ton of stuff done to it. Good luck.
  24. It sounds like u just got a lemon. Happens to most all makes once in a while. I have a nice '07 rx and it has needed some but not near the stuff yours has. My coil packs went around 75k. I've changed all the fluids, the trans. is fine as is the engine. I think the timing chain makes the noise when cold, but at least u don't have to replace it as with a belt. Of course there is a ground issue or etc. causing a battery to go bad that soon. With each vehicle I own I have a tolerance level concerning problems with it. When that level is reached that vehicle gets a new owner. Sounds like your Lexus should have reached that plateau a long time ago.
