  1. I took the air intake boot off, sprayed the inside of the throttle body with carb cleaner. So much gunk came out. Caught everything with a towel. Then started the car, slipped the red spray extension into the air intake boot with boot on. On high idle, gave some bursts of spray into the intake. Drove it around and there is a noticible difference in acceleration and response. I will check mileage this week. I used berryman b12 cleaner. Read directions as per can. You can use BG products air intake cleaner also.
  2. Are the A/C control illumination LED's or bulbs? I have a 1997.
  3. I am sure the dealer is over 200 bucks. I did it for 80 with synthetic ATF. Much cheaper if you use regular fluid.
  4. I have one on my 97 with no problem.
  5. As many of you already know that I have added a 2005 Toyota Camry nav to my 1997 Lexus Es300. I am now in the process of adding a few more goodies. The nav is capable of a rear view camera so that will be added soon. It activated when car is in reverse. Also, I have found a module which will enable me to add a DVD player to show on the nav screen. I have already added the voice comand microphone. Not really that great at recoginizing comands since there are more than 100 comands. Looking into a bluetooth upgrade soon also. The DVD player will be mounted in the same location as the CD changer as I no longer have that. It was not compatable with the Nav unit I purchased. To date, the nav unit has performed flawlessly. It's the best nav unit I have ever used. It is made by Fujitsu 10 (makers of ECLIPSE HEAD UNITS). All connectors are the same as the eclipse counterpart. I have added the Toyota XM radio unit to my car and that also works perfectly. Antenna for both GPS and XM have been covertly mounted under the rear trunk shelf fabric material. No problem with reception at all. Speakers will be changed to MB quarts all around. Looking for a 8" sub replacement if anyone can suggest. The nav has preouts already so I will run them to a small amp in the future if I decide to change the JBL factory amp.
  6. I have used amsoil ATF on all my vehicles and never had a problem. I doubt I will either. Amsoil ATF exceeds toyota specs by far. There is a very famous 4 runner guy that goes by the name of gadget. He is into high performance mods for 4runners. He had his tranny taken apart with a reputable firm called 7th level in the NY area. They also recommeded he switch to Amsoil ATF. you can check what he has done with his 4runner at www.gadgetonline.com
  7. can we not add a filter relocation unit such as the amsoil unit?
  8. No mine is the older stuff. Not IV. It does not matter though as Amsoil covers both fluids.
  9. yes there is a filter in the pan. I did not use any special tools. Just funnel. 12 quarts of synthetic oil, drain pan, and some help. Disconnected one cooler line and drained it into the pan. Ran the car. Someone kept pouring through the dipstick hole. stopped the car when the pan got full. Make sure you start with one extra quart in the tranny first before starting the car. DO this at your own risk. I take no responsibility if someone's tranny fails. I did this on a 95 and 97 ES300.
  10. I have searched the entire forum and I can't find the right size. Anyone know what fits in the door of the 97ES 300? I want to replace with MB quart Components.
  11. I did a entire flush with Amsoil ATF. About 12 quarts. Runs very smooth now. Shifts are effortless. Can't even tell its shifting. I did it myself. Disconnected one cooler line and did the flush. It's been 2000 miles since then. I highly recommend Amsoil ATF.
  12. I did a complete tranny flush on my 97Es300. It has 124,000 miles. The regular 3 quart changes were done but wanted to flush the entire 12 quarts out. I replaced it with synthetic amsoil ATF. It shifts much smoother and rides better. I am very happy with Amsoil ATF. Good synthetic stuff. I removed one of the cooler lines and did the flush.
  13. I have a 95 ES300 with 89000 miles. The tranny shifts hard out of park. More noticible in the morning but much less when the car is warmed up. Is this normal? I was thinking maybe becuase the engine is at high rpm's when it's cold. Any input? I changed the entire tranny system with AMSOIL Synthetic ATF. Shifting on roads is much smoother but the previous problem remains.
  14. theh AVS system is NOT related to the ABS or Traction control system. You can safaely remove the sytem or fuse with NO problem.
  15. i use amsoil 5w-30 and am happy with it. I use Mobil 1 - 0w40 in my benz as per factory!
  16. I did this on my dad's ES and the rear is a pain as the entire intake has to come off. I am in Houston also.
  17. Can someone answer this for me. I checked FAQ and it said 40mm is the highest you can go on the offset. Will the offset of 45 be ok or do I have to get something less than 40mm? I am not clear on this. SOmeone please answer this
  18. I just placed an order with heaterseats.com so I wil post my results later. I am doing the rear seats of another car. You should get power from the fuse box since they will draw a good amount of power. I doubt there is anything under the seat you can use. You can retrofit a factory switch but you will not have the factory plugs that go into the switch. Also the factory switch on cars before 2000 are 1 setting only. HiGH. After 2000 they have high and low.
  19. i locked the cam pully with the special tool, attached a long handle socket and struck it with a sledge hammer. That took it right off. For the crank pully, I used a bar puller from snap on. Works great! Right tool for the right job.
  20. as long as the slack is near the tensioner, it should be fine. If the slack is between 2 pullies, then you're in trouble.
  21. if anyone is going to a conventional setup, I would like to buy the suspension control module under the glove box. You won' tneed it if you get standard shocks. Let me know. drsunilpatel@mac.com
  22. I noticed the left side of my A/C Controls don't light anymore. Are they bulbs or led's in there?
  23. I got the snap on cam holding tool. It worked fine for me. The lisle one is probably cheaper and equally good. The only time you need to remove the cam pully is to change the pump. After 150,000 miles on my dad's ES, the pump was still great! The pump impeller is made of plastic so it doesn't rust out.
  24. I paid about 500 for both headlights on ebay but I had to wait to get them as both are rarely on ebay at the same time. The ballasts were included but I had to buy the bulbs on ebay for 40 bucks each. Price have really come down on the bulbs.
