  1. I bought a 97 ES300 a few weeks ago and tried the seat heaters. they don't heat at all. The illumination works on the switch. Also, when the switch is turned on, the orange indicator turns on the switch to let me know they are on. I checked under the seats. There are 2 connectors with 2 wires each. One of the 2 pin connectors has power to one of the pins no matter which position the heated seat switch is in so I assume that is for some other feature. The other 2 pin connector is dead. No power to it at all even with the switch turned on. No power to either lead. I checked the fuse and it is ok. No blown at all. Is there a relay? The engine rpm remains constant when the switch is turned on so I assume it is not drawing any load any where when switched on. What else can I check? Both drivers and passangers seat do the same thing. Everything else works perfectly in the car. I was wondering if the climate control has anything to do with it?
  2. I want a wood and leather steering wheel and new shift knob. The same ones in the 2000 and 2001 ES models. I have searchced the internet for days and no luck.
  3. I went to the dealer to ask the price of a new visor with homelink. He quoted me around 600. After I collected myself, I left and went to the internet. I searched Ebay. No one has a homelink visor for the ES. So next, I searched for just "homelink" bingo! I found a visor off a Jaguar 2001 model with the homelink buttons on it. I purchased it for 30 bucks. I got it today and ripped the visor apart and took out the homelink part. It is really slim and has just 2 wires on it. It can program 3 buttons. If you purchase one, make sure it is off a car later than 2000. Before 2000, most homelink transmitters did not have the rolling code technology found in most garage door openers. Well, After that, I gently took my visor apart without damaging the fabric. Removed the mirror first. I unwrapped the fabric on the left side where the transmitter was to be installed. I mounted it in the same location as the factory. I used a blade to cut the foam. Mounted it firmly in there so it won't move. It is very snug in there. soldiered the 2 wires onto the mirror wires. That's it. Works perfectly. Programmed 2 remotes and they work fine. I will take pics later to show. Looks totally stock. Can't tell that it was retrofitted later.
  4. Yeah, I guess you can say that. I know Steve pretty well.
  5. It is fairly easy to do except the trim piece. All other signals are easy to wire up. The audi nav is a pain! I did one a few weeks back and there are so many wires needed from all over the car. The benz is probably the easiest I have done.
  6. bumper = 85 bucks, grill = 40 bucks, my 97 car = 7000, a 2001 ES = 15000. And still No NAV
  7. I need to change the side bar to 97. I got the 95 for my dad. As of now,, I don't have a fix for the changer to work with the nav but the nav has a builtin single slot cd.
  8. i got my hands on a 01 grill and installed it on my 97 today. looks better. Also, got the black pearl emblems. Removing that old glue is not easy. Also got the front 01 bumper cover. Getting it painted and installed soon. I have one fog so i have to wait for the other fog from a 01. Need passanger side fog. I have new tires or I would have gotten the lexus 16" wheels too.
  9. paid about 1600. have a 97es300. Should be able to use the pioneer amp we already have installed.
  10. I just ordered my factory toyota nav system with jbl amp. Very very cool unit. Touch screen and widescreen also!!!! I can't wait to install it but will have to wait till my exams are over in a few weeks. I will also fabricate a custom trim piece to match factory appeareance.
  11. where is the factory amp located in my 97 es300?
  12. yes that is what I am going to do. I do it all the time in mercedes. http://homepage.mac.com/drsunilpatel/PhotoAlbum14.html
  13. if anyone has a oem original lexus shift knob in good shape, please let me know. I need it in dark tan or brown. drsunilpatel@mac.com
  14. did the es300 ever get a nav system installed from factory? I am going to retrofit a new toyota one if not.
  15. The heated seat system is not so great. When you turn them on, they heat but remain heated for extended periods of time which causes the coils to burn out fast. on my benz, they heat for 8 minutes high, 10 minutes low, then switch off. This prevents the coils from burning out. My 97 seats are dead on my lexus. Fuse is ok and there is power to the heating elements which leaves the elements being bad. I am going to attempt to install some after market element. About 100 bucks each seat. Taking the leather off the seat is very painful though.
  16. Ok, I am going to retrofit the xenons too now. I rather have the original ones than the plug and play ones. I understand there is a autolevelling feature. Has anyone retrofitted this? I have done it on my mercedes before.
  17. I know the engine is different but what else? Looks same to me. I noticed the dimming mirror and garage door opener buttons which I have retrofitted in my car already. Also, tails and front corner lights are different. Did the es300 ever get xenons? Did I cover everything?
  18. thanks that worked. Just tapped on it. Also, I figured how to remoove the wood trim. Just pull on it.
  19. I have a 97 ES and the lighting for the shifter area does not work at night. How can I remove the wood trim to access the bulb?
  20. dealer wanted 289 for a rear brake job. I spend 80 bucks and 20 minutes adn I was done.
  21. 97-99 has key chain fob remotes. the seperate ones. Make sure your FCC id is correct. There are 2 different ones i have seen but may be more. You can program them yourself as far as I know. There is a procedure for it but I don't have it.
  22. I bought the oem pads from Lexus for about 75 bucks for the rear set. They don't squeel at all.
  23. I just changed out the rear pads on my 97 Es. It took me 30 minutes both sides. very easy to do. No more squeel from brakes now. Whooo HooooO! :D :D
  24. I checked my 97 and it is right of the gas pedal. It was empty so i bought one set. 2 filters total. Question is which one goes in first. There is one filter that is fully pleated and one that is half pleated. Which goes on top and which goes on bottom. I assume the half pleated one goes on top and then the full pleated one on bottom?
  25. i have a 97 and it is not behind the glove box.
