  1. OK I filled up with techron stuff and full tank of gas, it came out to be 15.200 galons, so that comes out to be 17mpg, which aint bad, I ll see how it does with 89, and then 87 fuel ,
  2. lexusfreak, I dont know about tune up, and No i wont be using sunco 94 heh, since its gone here and cost TOO Much, I ll try lower octane after i get injection cleaner, 380 sounds awsome, but your city driving is prolly way diffrent then city driving in nyc, I heard a lot of people getting 16mpg on their Chevy blazers in other city's but my dad only manages 10-11 tops, but on highway only he gets up to 22, so this shows that nyc is pretty bad city driving. I find anything over 16mpg is pretty decent in nyc, especially with AC on, as for the comment about never going lower then 1/4, I dont know about that, I heard it before, but if it was true, wouldnt it be written somewhere in manual? I dont think there should be a problem going from full to almost empty tank, although i heard people say that at very end you end up sucking up the dirtiest fuel at bottom, ( on some cars) dont know if true or not, I guess I ll just start to fill up when the light comes on, unless i have no time, then i ll drive it few other miles. I ll tell u guys about how many galons that 260 was on when i fill up, that way i ll know for sure, thanx
  3. how is 99 diffrent from 97-98? i thought they are identical although there might be slight changes, but they sstill look about same to me, since my friend has a 99 and it looks pretty much same as mine i did not like 96 thats why i bought 97 ; )
  4. I understand that it does happan, but I find it hard to beleive that a lot of people mess up the installation, I did 2 cars before, and i did not really know much about audio, but it came out fine, Its like 2 wires total, unless u running rca from HU , so thats 3, and i dont see how you can mess it up, if u plug it in right holes in the amp itself, I want to install sub in lex also, but i duno how much fun it will be to run wires, and how i would be able to secure the box, its fairly small 10inch eclipse alum sub with small box, so it should fit in nicely w/o taking up much space, if i get some time i ll prroly install it, and stock speakers are decent enough for me , so i wont be replacing those. there is a hole in firewall that you can run the wire through right? its on pass side i believe ? thanx
  5. hey guys, I put in 93octane and I drove it in city/highway, about 50/50, with some days with AC sometimes pressing gas pedal quite a bit, and i got 260 mile , is that decent? I m going to put in chevron Techron, fuel injection cleaner, and then going to try 89-91octane fuel, and see if my mpg will be better, I think over 250 is decent in city driving especially with AC 70% of time, cause my bonneville/talon was getting about that much, I highly doubt that getting a tune up will improve the mpg much anyways, but maybe next year i ll try if my plugs/wires are bad. Just curious on your thoughts. Thanx
  6. steviej well it did not , when he was looking at post, and he is right for asking about the year, I have put that signature after, so every one knows what year car i have, sorry about forgetting to put year before, I m use to having a eagle talon, and when i was on boards i had nickname TSI_AWD92 , so most people knew what year i had heh, but here i just put ilyailya, i should have done ilyas97es300 ;) anyways thanx
  7. IACV whats that? anyways i tried what u guys sugested, and its correct, after i let it sit on on position 2-3 times before starting, it started right up, so i m guesing over night it looses fuel pressure, and takes that extra second to build it before car starts might be fuel filter, but i doubt it. I ll see maybe later on i ll change it, but for now i ll just crank it a bit longer ; ) thanx guys
  8. 97, and i have done NOTHING, and i m trying to keep it that way ;) I spent enough hours working on my POS talon in past 2 years, on this lexus i dont plan on doing much, unless it really needs it ; ) thanx a lot guys,
  9. i actually took it to mechanic and he did not find nothing wrong for 2nd time(not in air), so now you going to tell me to take it to LEXUS dealer , like they will actually find something, they would prolly charge me 500 bux to replace struts and call it a day , thanx but no thanx, car will run 100k miles on struts i have now just fine, especially the way i drive, (5k a year tops) i am not ignoring your posts, I just dont think that it is what my problem is. thanx for information anyways, and i dont mean to offend any one, and hope i dont offend you by asking things again in diffrent way, . I try to see many opinions, cause usually 2-3 people will say diffrent things, and its up to me to find out which one really applies to my problem, it dont mean any one of them is wrong, it just means they are saying solutions to diffrent variety of problems so thanx every one
  10. when did I say that i did not understand how car works? well lexus maybe . but i had a talon, that i worked on, i have replaced everything mostly, clutch, injectors, radiator, turbo, intercooler, fuel pump, clutch slave/master, etc etc etc, did everything but the brakes heh, never bothered touching the rusty brakes, on lexus i might try ; ) and I WOULD NEVER TAKE TO DEALER, regular mechanic maybe, but never a dealer, btw a lot of times dealers/mechanics replace parts at rendom and dont solve nothing ;) so dont know what you are talking about thanx for reply though
  11. when mechanics had it in air, they did not see any problems, so its SAFE In my opinion, and they said no problems with it. whats is the wheel bearing you are talking about? how would i check it? thanx P.S. can it be rear links? but they would cause that sound all time IMO
  12. no way am i taking it to dealer ;) and i might end up changing fuel filter, air filter is fine, i think maybe its just building up pressure in fuel system, cause 2nd time it starts just fine and car is just as cold . doubt its plugs, but i ll change them eventually if my MPG sux , but it seems to be fine, maybe i m just not use to it, but first time start is a bit longer then when car was just shut off doubt i can get any records, car came from auction i beleive, can i some how look up what recalls/stuff has been done to it by calling lexus and giving vin #? for free? it might tell something up to 60k miles or till when everything that was done came free, after that i bet person did it elsewhere
  13. hey guys this might seem like a stupid question but I m going to ask it anyways ;) when i first go to start up the car, i have to crank it quite a bit for it to start, sometimes out of getting use to old cars that i had, i let go too fast thinking it should start and car does not, so i crank it 2nd time and it starts fine, is this normal? should first start take like 2 seconds of cranking? cause when car is warm (just driven or started before) it start very fast, (turn key and it just starts fast ) but when car been sitting all day/night , i turn key and hold for a second or so and then it starts maybe i m paranoid, but i dont think it should do that, maybe the fuel is not getting to it in time so it takes an extra half second-second, but maybe its just normal. just wondering what you guys think ? thanx
  14. so how many galons would i need for basic drain/flush/fill ? 3 gals? u know, i think all mechanics are bad, i went to my friends father, and he opened the reservoir smelled it, and said it needs to be changed, and will cost 100 bux, so i m all upset about it, cause i just got car,. In morning i open it up, and open up the coolant cap itself to see what fluid looks like there, and its red and looks clear/very nice, I dont think it should be changed for another 30k miles IMO heh, I ll change it eventually and my self,, cause no way i ll pay 100 bux for them to do it, and i m sure it would be fine for a year or more even, but i ll do it as soon as i m not lazy ;) thanx
  15. EG ? thats the original lexus coolant?
  16. well if it was bad struts it would make noise all time?? and car would drive weird? but car stands tall and drives solid going over big bumps just fine, but the noise is there over small bump etc, sounds like something is loose, maybe its my exhaust, i shaked it and it hits the top of the chasis, but i dont think it would swing that much over small bumps, i guess eventually i ll find problem, but no way am i going to do struts , too much $ , plus its not dangerous to drive it like that, just annoying,
  17. friend is begging me for one, , if you still have 1 left, hook him up xironmanxx@aol.com if not , no biggie he will wait
  18. hey guys, I drive around on my 97 es300 and once in a while or sometimes more often i hear a thumping sound comming from the rear wheels/or just rear(cant tell exactly where its comming from) . I can not figure out what it is, I tried removing stuff from trunk etc. and same thing, WHen mechanic had it up in air, he did not really found anything wrong/loose. (sound sounds like something is loose and swinging/banging on something, but i can be mistaken) What is weird is that the sound is not always there. Sometimes i go over a huge bump/pot hole, and there is no sound that i heard before. And when i try to shake my car i dont hear nothing eather. (shocks seem solid) also i heard similar noise when i was rolling slowly and pressed brakes hard, same sort of noise came from back when it stoped. any ideas on what it can be? (i ll check my muffler/exhaust , maybe its hitting something once in while) . I have searched the internet, and I found this post by some one "Question: 1995 Lexus ES300 3.0 liter mileage: 86,000. Hello. There is a rattling noise, which seemingly comes from the rear passenger side area. This noise only occurs when I am traveling over small bumps or uneven pavement. I have removed everything from the trunk & test driven the car & still get the noise. To describe the noise, it almost feels and sounds like a rapid low dribble of a basketball. Any ideas? Answer: Several things may be the cause of your noise. Check the rubber bushings on the struts also the bushings on the rear suspension. It is possible the struts themselves are making the noise. " seems like same problem as me, If any one has some information regarding this, i would appreciate hearing it, thanx Ilya
  19. can u use dexcool, since its red/or pink in color?
  20. I do same thing online, Always seem to misspell the easiest words, as long as people understand what I m trying to say, its all good
  21. is PCV really need to be changed? what does it do ? I dont see why u would touch it if stock is fine, ?
  22. i sprayed the hell out of my brakes/rotors with BRAKE CLEANER, hoping it will stop my squeeking ;) heh
  23. posted by lexusfreak for general information for others. "As for the amount of fluid, that depends as well......there are at least 2 ways of doing it. You can do a basic 'drain & fill' which is just taking out the tranny plug & letting the fluid drain out (only about 30% of the old fluid or 3 - 4.5 quarts is what you need is changed however, the rest is still in the transmossion torque converter). Or you can find a shop with a state of the art 'transmission fluid flushing machine' that takes 100% of the old fluid out & put's in 100% of the new fluid......this what I did as I'm very fussy about the fluids I use in my car so I needed about 18 - 20 quarts (2 -3 are used as a 'cleaner' when your flushing the old fluid out). This process is the best in my opinion but it is more expensive (but so is a new tranny on a Lexus ES!). At the same time you get a 'transmission filter kit' which is mainly a new gasket to put around the transmission pan as these items don't last forever so over time they will leak from being weathered.......I call it preventitive maintenance. Some argue this is overkill & could even damage the tranny with the flushing machine........as long as the shop knows what they are doing (many Lexus dealers carry them but not all so call around). My tranny has never shifted smoother.....I needed toyota type IV fluid. I hope this helps & good luck! "
