  1. Personalization codes are available on 2002ES's up. I'm not too sure if they had that option before then. It should be spelled out in the each years Owners Manual if it was. ;)
  2. So once again a cellphone caused this accident? Some day they'll outlaw them while people are driving. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6895319/
  3. I didn't test drive my '03 before I bought it. I assumed the performance, and transmission would be at least as good as the '94ES that I traded in. Driving my new car home I was very disappointed. and to this day, I still am! You know the adage, "When you assume, you make an !Removed! out of you and me"
  4. Before you get too excited and try changing sensors and stuff......try another tankful of gas and add a can of dry gas. Sometimes, due to the weather conditions in our area, moisture(water) can cause these conditions. ;)
  5. latah (later with a Boston accent thrown in) ← steviej- Congratulations
  6. The valve cover gasket(s) are leaking. It's not a serious leak though, but it should be repaired.
  7. Anything is possible, but I think this type of modification isn't worth the effort. IMO. ;)
  8. It's completely normal that in "Auto" mode the AC indicator lights up. Even though this indicator is lit does not mean that the AC is actually working, because below certain temperatures(outside freezing), the compressor is locked out. Another thing is that if you make any button changes to the climate control, like fan speed, AC on/off, or recirculate, it goes out of "Auto" operation. You can reset all the parameters to adjust automatically by pressing the "Auto" button.
  9. Yeah, but the Kirkland Cashew nuts are the best. :P
  10. Correct! The transmission will NOT downshift. There is some sort of protective circuit that is activated depending on the engine RPM so it won't over rev.
  11. A subwoofer extends the low frequency content below the audible range. It usually adds about an octave below the rolloff frequency of the woofer.
  12. So far, all of these supposed fixes DON"T work satisfactorily. From day 1 of my ownership of a 2003 ES I noticed that I had to cater to the whims of this transmission, electronic throttle, problem. Yes, I can minimize this idiosyncrasy, but why should I have to do this? I want the car to respond to MY commands. This is the only gripe I have with this otherwise fine car. I'm not sure if it's been corrected in the '05, but from what I've heard, it hasn't. BTW: I have always been able to replicate this problem on EVERY '02 to '04 ES that I've driven, and that is over 20 cars. I can always drive it smoothly also....but that's not the answer.
  13. I've been reading Automotive magazines and looked around websites, and I'm sorry to say that none of them lists the ES330's in their top 5 or even their top 10. At one time they were always at or near the top in almost all respects. It seems that Lexus is slipping, and other manufacturers models are passing them by. Has anybody noticed this? :cries:
  14. Try here>http://www.lextasy.com/lexus_alternator_1469_prd1.htm
  15. The Lexus Owners Manual is typical of most upscale automobiles, they figure that the majority of these owners don't do their own maintenance and prefer having their dealers make these changes. Non upscale Owners Manuals usually are much more user friendly so you can do these upgrades yourself. ;)
  16. The NAV system is the same as all new technology......it's expensive in the beginning, and as time goes by the prices come down. Example: Look at how much more you get in a computer now as compared to a few years ago....and much cheaper. ;)
  17. There are certain personalized changes that require specialized equipment that only Lexus dealers have. That's why it says in the Owners Manual to contact your dealer. ;)
  18. Naturally, a newer version disc will give you more information. As an example: the POI went from 2 million up to over 5 million when I upgraded my disc. I'm sure it'll increase even more when I decide to upgrade this version in the future. :)
  19. I don't know the exact version, but when I bought my '03ES in March '03 the NAV disc originally installed was an '02 disc. I upgraded to an '03 disc in the Spring of '04. My whole purpose in doing this was because certain new streets in my area(New York suburbs & Minneapolis suburbs) had a lot of changes that I needed, which didn't show up on the older version disc. I didn't do this because of problems with the NAV system. At about $375 a shot I don't intend upgrading for at least another year.
  20. I don't know about the '98 ES, but that option is available on the '02 ES and up. This upgrade, if available on your car will have to be done by a Lexus dealer.
  21. The new version software is released about every November. The main reason for upgrading is to get the most current streets, maps, and points of interest. That was very nice of Lexus to tell you about the upgrade, since I had to fight like hell to get the upgraded disc...Free, otherwise, the cost is about $375!
  22. Does the dash brake light also come on if you have a problem with the ABS?
  23. I'm almost sure that Lexus produced an LX430, but not sold in the USA.
