  1. The jack stand points are generally indicated with an illustration in the trunk of the car or in the owners handbook. :)
  2. This is the car for you.........Toyota Highlander V6 AWD!!
  3. Since that's a specialized part, you'll have to get this clip at a Lexus dealer's parts department. If they don't have it in stock, they can order it for you. It might take a couple of days.
  4. I didn't think that Canadian ES's were plagued by this problem. I was told that they weren't required to have ULEV certification like U.S. ES's, and that's why there was this hestiation. Can anybody please straighten me out?
  5. Hey Al, Welcome to the club and good luck with the new car. In the first place, you had better tell your loving wife that if she expects to have peace in the family that she should let you drive her car. :D My suggestion is to wait awhile, and if the shifting thing really bothers you, then have the dealer check if the newest transmission upgrade was done to your car before it was delivered to you. There is the possibility that it was never done. The dealer has ways of knowing this cars history. As the old saying goes, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth". :)
  6. 98es- You indicate that you have a 1998ES, but this transmission update(reflash) is for 2002 thru 2005 ES models. Am I missing something? Edit: I noticed that after I posted this, that you also have a 2002 ES. I suggest you upgrade your profile, because you only listed a 1998 ES. :whistles:
  7. Where is that car from? ← This picture is from a Japanese website.
  8. This I like!! :D It's too bad they don't have this feature in U.S. delivered ES's. :( Has anybody changed their side view mirrors to this type.....and if so.....how much did it cost?
  9. As of may 2005 there is an updated computer logic available, this works very well it will require about 1 hour at youre dealer to reflash ← THATCH- Did you happen to follow my posts up until the present? The quoted post above was over 2 years old!(QUOTE(amf1932 @ May 20 2003, 07:45 PM) Then read my post #344 in this thread about two pages back.....it discusses fully about the new re-flash that I had done at my dealer. <_<
  10. Well.....you must be doing something right to be able to get that kind of pad life. Like I said, I have never, ever heard of this astronomical brake pad mileage in all my experience when i was in the automotive field! And I started my career back in 1950.
  11. Wow.....That's unbelievable!!! I have NEVER heard of anybody getting that kind of brake life on either a car or truck! Did you get this loooooooong life on OEM rotors & pads?? I'm very skeptical.
  12. Being an original owner of a '91ES250, then a '94ES300, and now the current owner of an '03ES300, I can honestly say that I didn't notice ANY performance or gas mileage increase when switching to Premium fuel. When each of these cars were new, I originally used Premium fuel for about 1 year of operation, and then switched to Regular Grade. I never heard engine knocking(pre-ignition) on any of these cars......even going up hills. Although, I did notice my wallet was fatter. Here is the chart taken out of my 2003 ES Owners Manual:
  13. I think it's as good as it's going to get. I'm truly happy with the performance, so far. :)
  14. Maybe the evaporate vent valve is stuck closed and the tank can't vent while filling the tank.
  15. If you intend on changing the calipers, then you bleed the brakes...not before. ;) Reason: Once you remove the old calipers you remove the brake line, and once it's open, air get's into the hydraulic system. So after everything is replaced you then do the bleeding.
  16. I'm almost 100% sure that's your problem. All it takes is one cog off on your timing belt to create this situation. Recheck it.
  17. Last week I watched "Car & Driver" on "Spike TV", and the top rated SUV was the Jeep Grand Cheorokee 4WD. The one they tested had an 8 cylinder Hemi.
  18. You're exactly right about the update. I had this discussion with the service manager. They download the newest software from Lexus into their computer and put it into some sort of reader that plugs in under the dashboard and transfers the new update into the cars ECM. When Lexus has a new upgrade the older one is scrapped. I'm happy to hear that it's working out for you.
  19. It says on my invoice: Performed TSV EG5017 ECM, Transmission Recalibrated. So, I guess you got the right upgrade. My update: I took the car out today to do some chores, which included city & hiway driving. I still feel that the shifting of this transmission is as good as I can expect on any automatic. Previously I couldn't say that! I didn't notice any notchiness at all. The shift points were changed for the better in my estimation, and the shifting is extremely smooth. I was wondering whether this upgrade is similar to the Canadian models, because they never complained about hesitations? Also, I wonder if the car still meets ULEV specs. From what I can see, the electronic throttle was really never at fault. If it was, I can't see how this upgrade was able to fix the hesitation, unless this upgrade affected both the transmission and throttle. I might be wrong, but due to the fact that the shift points are different, the fuel economy might suffer slightly in city driving. But I don't care! I'm completely happy. :D I might add, I'm still using Regular grade fuel even though Lexus still suggests Premium. I was using Premium for awhile, but I honestly didn't notice any difference in performance. Now I can say....This car is great!!!
  20. Firstly, do you have the balance control set in the middle(left and right channels and front to back)? Also, is the lack of volume the same on both radio and CD. If it's the same on both you possibly have a problem with the amplifier section.
  21. I think a class action suit will be a waste of time, as has been proven in the past, especially now that they have fixed this problem with their newest transmission calibration. There have been a few owners that brought Lexus to court and got nowhere fast.
  22. I bought a new 1991 ES250 and they didn't have the option of Keyless entry. I remember having to use the key to unlock either the drivers door with 1 turn of the key or all the doors with 2 turns of the key.
  23. The newest transmission upgrade that was released on April 2005 now includes ES's plus other model Lexus's, so I guess some owners of 2005 models also didn't like the shifting quality. Even though you're happy with your car I think this upgrade will make you even happier. :)
