  1. Oh, I also replaced the spark plugs, wires, distributor caps, rotors and air filter while I was at it. It wasn't needed and it isn't hard to get to those parts at a later time, but it was just so convenient.
  2. Octane doesn't mask any problems. Your car was designed to run on premium...Lexus doesn't make money off of that.
  3. O2 sensors - 4 Fuel filter - Denso ATF - Amsoil or T-IV Coolant - Toyota For spark plugs go to Rockauto.com, I paid $6 a piece for NGK laser iridiums. Park Place Lexus has free shipping and no tax on internet orders.
  4. You need a MotorVac to clean out the clogged EGR pipe. You're going to have to bring it to a shop to have it done, unless you have one of these at home (which I doubt).

    New Job

I guess taking the train isn't going to work for me because I checked Amtrak and BART's stations/route and it's nowhere close to where I need to be. The nearest station from the job would be across the bay. If I do take the job I only plan on staying there maybe 2 months max. No pain no gain?
  6. I've seen plenty of those on the streets. It's not my style but if you like it then by all means go for it.
  7. 1 button = 1 bulb, 2 buttons = 2 bulbs? Do you have an owners manual?
  8. What's so major about it? Did you make new door panels too or what? You have a turbo GS and you're going to consider this a major mod?....cmon now...
  9. Personally, I think it looks like a shopping cart.
  10. Shipping isn't cheap for a motor...why would it be free?
  11. Yes, they will go bad. It would be wise to replace the waterpump when you replace the belt...it's just so much easier this way. It would be a lot more trouble if you were to replace just the belt for now and have to go back and tear everything apart again just to replace a failed waterpump...these 2 things should be done together. When I replaced my timing belt I also replaced the tensioner, waterpump, no.1 idler bearing and no.2 idler bearing.
  12. You should either bring it to a mechanic and have it checked out or just pass on the deal.
  13. 1. Timing belts are the same for 90-97 LS'. 2. You don't have to but since you have it out you might as well change it. 3. Same as above. Tensioners and waterpumps go bad overtime and it's better that you replace those parts while the engine is already stripped down.
  14. 6 1/2's is a minor modification. You could either use fiberglass which is a little harder to work with, or go the easy way and use plywood to build a new mount for the 6.5's.

    New Job

How does the train thing work? I've never used the train to commute. Does it drop me off at a station and I have to find a way to get to work from there? If yes, then are there buses available at the train station? I'm already stressed out just trying to figure out if I should take up the offer or not..imagine when it comes down to making it to work on time.
  16. stock front - 4" stock rear - 5" If you want a well rounded system with midbass then you should consider stepping up to 6 1/2" components....this will require minor modifications. For tweeters you can install any size you want...it just depends on where you plan on mounting them. I'm not sure what size the subwoofer is but I'm guessing 10"...maybe someone else will be able to tell you the exact size....
  17. Yeah, the stock look is very clean...if I had the Nakamichi HU I wouldn't of gone aftermarket...I was looking for better sound quality over my Pioneer. If you really like the stock look and you're completely satisfied with the sound quality then you should try to find yourself a CD changer...just get the conversion cable to get it to work off of your stock HU. If you were add the cost of a new HU, wiring harness and mounting kit it would probally end up being more than the cost of a Lexus CD changer anyways. Plus you're going to have to find a way to get the HU to run the sub...more headaches.
  18. I've seen other mounting kits for our cars but this is by far the cleanest one. The other kits available have that little pocket underneathe the DIN...I think it's unattractive. What's the point of having that "pocket" there anyways...for CD's? Scosche has a kit that has a 1/2 DIN slot under the 1 DIN headunit slot that allows you to add an EQ...I'm going to use this kit once I find the right EQ.
  19. I don't know because I removed everything (mids, sub, amp & HU) all at once and installed a new system in its place. You'll lose sound because your sub amp isn't going to work with the new harness. Are you planning on running a new setup?
  20. High mount brake light? Take a screw driver and lightly "pop" the cover on the rear deck up...pull it up a little with your hands then pull it out towards you....wires are still attached so don't pull it completely away from the deck..just sort of tilt it up then swap out the bulb.

    New Job

I wanted the tranny rebuild experience and if I do take the job is just going to be a termporary thing, just until I'm able to open my own shop. I agree with everyone here though...it's going to wear me down. I definitely need to do some deep thinking. Thanks for all the insight.
  22. I believe he is still in the process of buying a headunit. For a single DIN mount kit and harness try this: http://www.sfxaudio.com/products/installse...LS400&Year=1990
  23. The blue and white plugs are of different sizes...you can't really plug it in wrong.
  24. I don't think he knew what he was doing.
  25. I'm not a big fan of SC's but your car is sick.
