Sweden Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 My RX400h (2006) engine sometimes give an extra "push" when slowing down. It feels like the gearbox gears down and gets more "powerful" around 25-20mph. It is not dramatic and I am now used to it, but my wife how drives only 1-2 times per month does not like it, as it feels like the car accelerates on own initiative for a second or two. Anyone got similar experiences? Tips on what to do?
exmeaguy Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 This is the normal "feature" operation of the transmission. A simple search on this subject would show it has been discussed before.
RX400h Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I think what you're talking about is the interruption of the regenerative braking action while traversing a rough patch of road. The RX feels like it suddenly accelerates when in reality, the slowing of the vehicle due to regenerative braking cut-off, leaving the vehicle's full forward momentum to be felt by the driver. This is a bit disconcerting but very normal for our RXs. If you know there is a rough patch of road where you will be braking, apply higher than normal brake pedal pressure to compensate for the lack of regenerative braking that may occur.
maseace Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 The shift from regenerative braking to friction brakes occurs around 9 mph, but I was also thinking it might be this.
