bluethunder2008
Hi, I want to douplicate the remote key for my car and I asked the car dealer and he said you need to provide the key serial from your car to douplicate the key. ;) How can I find it ? ThunderRiver
Hehe.. wish I could help you out, but I am also wondering about the same thing. My year model is 1994 LS400. Since the car is pre-owned, the dealer didn't give me any serial number. My dad also got his 2000 LS400 preowned, but he got his serial. I guess I should have asked back then. blake918
When I order extra keys from my dealer, all they need is the VIN, registration, and my driver's license. I have never used or know that little serial number for the keys. The VIN should be sufficient...at least I thought!
bluethunder2008
I talked to the local dealer and they said if I don't have the serial number , I should bring the car to them and they will bring the number , but I have to have $60 as per my request to get it from inside the car , It means to me that . it's not only the vin serial. tansupplyman
My 'mechanics' key came with a small square piece of aluminum attached with a 5 digit number stamped in it. Is that the key serial number?? Would assume so, but don't know for sure.
99lsguy
My guess is the Serial # is stamped on the ingnition switch somewhere....... If you could remove the plastic panel it would be visible?
bluethunder2008
Well I have no idea what kind of serial do they want. they said " either you have the paper that comes with the car or someone from us should look inside the car to get the serial " so I'm not sure wither it is the VIN or the 5 digits printed on the key the key itself cost me $180 excluding the serial key effort to get it. tansupplyman
Tks--it really wasn't square--it was rectangular. but sounds like I should keep it in a secure place!!
