mbiz999
I have a 1996 LS 400. My seat belt was not retracting all the way. Now all of a sudden it retracts all the way, but won't extend far enough to buckle. Any ideas? I feel unsafe driving without a seat belt on as well as it being illegal. pj8708
Hi MBIZ, The seat belt retractor mechanism is probably shot. You can buy a replacement from your dealer or a Toyota dealer. If your a do-it-your selfer you should be able to do the repair your self. If not, have your dealer or a qualified independant mechanic do the repair. This is not a repair you want to skimp on. DO NOT drive without a working seat belt. Paul
TGS1969
Broken spool pin, or rather, mising the plastic around it, (crumbles away) causing retraction beyond the starting point giving you a shorter belt. Replace the spool assembly and reuse the belt or get the entire assembly with a belt from a junkyard.
