Want Sum Good Cheap Power?!

i side gapped my spark plugs(regular ngk) and got power so unbelievable i had to stop an take a breath... whew!! yeah!!

ok so im not sure if any body has posted anything to this extent, besides the waterr sensor change and tha tranny mount difference but this works!!!!! first get yur spark plugs, cut the electrode in half, clean all the burs and metal shavings off, gap it to the manufacutuers specs minus.010 put bak in and there u go... insta power!!!!! ohg and must i mention a little better gas milege.... who doesnt like getting 21 miles per gallon...?

get yur old ones and try it first if u dnt believe me, i did and was mad i wasted my time...lol... hope erybody finds this as helpfull as i did... i did tha coolant temp sensor change... wutta difference hats off to tha dudes that figured that one out...

The idea of cutting back the ground electrodes has been around for decades, and for exactly as long it's been shown to make no difference. Just another little automotive myth.

yes satisfied and ery thang i looked at showed it had bin around for a while but did more searching on it and it does show to give anything from 3-7 hp pending on how well u kno how to index yur plugs.. mine are turned towards the intake valves so far so good, thinkn bout playn witem a little to c if they respond better n any other position... so if yur lookn for a quick solution to tha lag tha CAR HAS BIN GIVIN... MERRYXMAS.. lol.. but totally yur choice.. i raced a 93(?) sc400 and was suprised to c me ahead of him... of course my speedo dusnt work so of course i have no idea how fast we wer going... bummer.... but alls good that ends good

Interesting enough , i would wonder what a base line test using new plus gapped plugs would have yeilded also.

not sure would like to kno to, but of course the bigger the gap the more electric power you need, but tha ls400 is pretty good at burning all the fuel allready so to put on an msd ignition or any ignition timer to that effect would jus make the car that much better, although not much but wouldnt hurt... id wait till i had the fish kit on or alot more power before i decided to openem up and give it a longer spark, it generates alot more heat as well... i stay wer its pretty hot i wanna keep my car cool as possible. :)

I bet you're seeing the results from the Coolant Temp Sensor. It has been known to make a pretty drastic difference.

You better pray to the Celsior Gods that your "side-gapped" plugs don't F-up your engine! The 1UZ can be very picky. :D

I'm happy with my Denso Iridium Long Lifes.. I'll opt to leave them alone :)

...OK...do you think it remotely possible that when you side-gapped your plugs, and deburred them - that really you truly just cleaned the carbon off to show bare metal? therefore giving a cleaner, more efficient spark??

...now the MSD electronic ignition will truly give you a "hotter" plug, because it "forces" more power to the plug, that i cant deny...

as far as generating more "heat" in these combustion chambers, the cast aluminum alloy does a wonderful job of Dissipating heat, another reason why these V8's are a good candidate for turbocharging!

...now to see if side-gapping truly gives more power..

got an old lawnmower that cranks? it's ignition system is the same as your car but on a smaller scale...

pull your old used plug out, and reconnect to your coil - let it hang or secure it so you can se the plug gap easily..

..have someone crank the lawnmower while you record/watch the spark intensity in a shaded dark area.

now clean the spark plug and repeat. do the side-gap process and repeat again.

now if you dont have a new plug, for the sake of science buy one for 2-3 bucks - your gonna need one for your lawn mower any ways!

take the old plug off, put the new one on and record/watch the spark intensity.

do the side-gap on the new plug and repeat.

now you can download the videos and freezeframe the each process you did with the plugs and compare.

I know you cant record the actual voltage, but usually a higher voltage spark is brighter and thicker.

now you can come to your own conclusion about side gapping.

Science is so cool! B) even if it is shadetree science!

True dat.. Lol, prayed toem tha first time I fired up... And its not jus tha sensor switch I did that about 2 days before I did the side gap... And its tha new spark plugs that r side gapped, so I'm pretty sure I jus didn't basically cleanem off... Matter of fact about 2 weeks ago I gave it a full tune up, plugs, wires, cap and rotors, timing belt, fan clutch, witch needed to b replaced, it was locked up, fuel filter, lmao, and even did that intake thing, u kno, tha wun we're u take tha stock airbox and cut out tha front of it, put n a k and n oil based filter for those rainy dayz, oil change transmission flush and fill and changed the screen, rear end dif fluid, jus cuz I had tha money and steering fluid flush... Ls400 is a CHAMP!! Man I love this car, only had it for about 2 months now, and I'm already n love

Unfourtunatly I dnt have a camera that I can hook up to my pc yet like that, and I proly wouldn't kno how to doit n e wayz, I like cars not cameras... But as far as testing it goes I did it to my 43cc goped... And yes it does work... On top of that I use 91 octane in it as well.. Lol, I kno it's a 2 stroke, but with gas, there's always a difference.. Lol.. Science is cool especially wen its on discovery channel.. Lol. Wish I had tha stuff and knew how to use it to download like u said, would b nice

The octane rating of gas doesn't make your car faster.

The octane rating is the fuel's ability to resist ignition. So as to not "pre-ignite" in your engine, causing knock. That's why you'll see higher compression and higher performance engines generally needing higher octane fuel.

The 1UZFE however has knock sensors, so if you do chose to use a lower octane fuel, the ECU will !Removed! the timing in order to preven pre-detonation. Resulting in a loss of efficiency, and power.

exactamondo! ive seen many people put 93 or higher in thier car, which doesnt hurt it by no means! but it doesnt improve it otherwise....

...now back to the cheap power topic before another "fuel grade" discussion erupts! :lol:

you may also want to consider cleaning your throttle body also jaw5885 as jcrome and others have done, that has helped in regaining power as well.

ok so i waas refering to the fuel grade in my little goped.. i put 91 in that and it gives it a lil more umph.... but as far as my vehicles go, always the best chevron usually, but sumtimes shell or 76, wen i dnt c a chevron in sight... and 91 octane is all they have in the pump, im not goin outta my way to go buy the better stuff im satisfied wit pump fuel..lol as far as the intake goes... next on list saw a few uthers accomplish the task and ffigured what the hek since im going to put better fuel rails in and lookn around for a better intake manifold but cant find anything im satisfied with, its not like its a chevy.... but yeah, ill get it done dnt worry bout that.. im all about the cheap maint to prolong tha life of my car, always have and always will. love workn on cars :) im in the process of finding a good pully kit as well so i can eventually put sum electric fans on, that darn belt driven one hogs a lil to much horespower... wen i ran the car without tha blades on it u can actually feel a lil more tug or power.. kinda cool too!

..I don't care if you're putting high octane in your lawn mower.. octane doesn't make you go faster...

Shell and 76 are also "Top Tier" suppliers. That have cleaning agents added to their fuel as well.

What do you mean out of your way for "better stuff"??

im willing to bet that cleaning all the crap from and regapping your spark plugs caused the increase in power you're feeling more than the bull*BLEEP* that is sidegappping. don't believe me? put up the money to dyno your car and realize that you're STILL making stock HP or more likely lower.

hahah, so you're saying that higher octane gas does NOT make more power, yet somehow mystically "performs" better? you must explain to me this bending of physics and chemistry you are attempting to create/explain.

you presented a series of idea, i proceeded to disagree with pretty much all of them since you have no empirical evidence to support your claims. i also asked you to fix your spelling and grammar because frankly, it's a big pain in the !Removed! to read through, and when you are conversing on or asking for help from a forum you generally don't want to alienate people who will literally just skip over your post because the type of grammar and spelling you are using is indicative of someone either still in highschool or still stuck in that same mentality.
