LOL thanks for the clarification. I have never before heard a rear diff referred to as a pumpkin. :)

I think its a truck thing. I have heard off-roaders call rear differentials "pumpkins" when discussing truck mods, suspension lifts, etc. They talk about clearance under the "pumpkin".

Has your differential been destroyed? You might be better off having it rebuilt, at least that way you know what you have as opposed to what you could wind up with out of the bone yard where they sell pumpkins!

Brett is right. Unless you got a housing full of shrapnel, a rebuild is probably going to be cheaper and more reliable. The major pieces like the ring and pinion and stub axles are pretty stout. The bearings and various ring clips and seals should be relatively inexpensive. A salvage yard pumpkin should be rebuilt before you install it anyway, so why not work with the one that's in it? If the housing is damaged in some way that changes things, but you should still rebuild what you buy.
