ok. this has got to be the dealer's fault. when i car washed my GX lately, I noticed there was a scratch on my front left rim. Now i tried to rub it off, and it felt like a real scratch. So i took it to the dealer and showed it to them (and as i predicted ) but they said it wasn't their fault. Well mr dealer, what are the chances of me scratching up my rim, especially if the scratch is a letter "F" and "L". The "F" scratch is backwards and the "L" isn't a full L. what is going on?? they should replace it, or something!!!!!!!

sorry for the horrible photo. this was taken with my cell phone. the "F'" is easy to notice, the "L" isn't.. but u get the point

Did you recently have anything done like a tire rotation etc. ? Sounds like "front left" like they were labeling it. I'm not sure of any people that randomly put an F and an L on rims LOL..must be the dealer or whoever worked on your car's fault.

Possibly his camera phone takes pictures as a mirror (backwards) image when using the outside of the phone. I know my phone does this. As dumb as a person can be to etch in a letter on a wheel, no one can be dumb enough to put it backwards.

Wow, i never expected this many replies. ummm, no my camera phone (Treo 650) doesn't take pictures backwards. notice how the "L" emblem isn't backwards. I had a tire rotation on my last 30k check-up, which was about 3k miles ago. Now it just so happens that I wanted to car wash the GX myself, and found this "dirt I called it at first". Now, this GX hasn't been rotated anywhere except the dealer (well once at costco, but they didn't scratch it) and the service advisor told me "Oh we have procedures, it starts off like like this, then this, then blah blah blah" but in conclusion, he meant "it's not our fault". ahhh, man. now i gotta find a rim specialist in town that might be able to fix this.

yea, the etched "L" isn't noticeable. I'll see if i could get another picture, just of the "L" scratch. but the idiot who put the "F" didn't even know how to make a normal "F". geez

Maybe they wrote it backwards so it wouldn't be as obvious..yet they would still know what it stood for..very weird.

bad part is, I would still know what the backwards "F" would mean. I don't mind the other scratches (even though I really do mind it) that were made around the bolts of the rim. I let the people go off lucky on those, because of their tools and stuff, but i don't know about a tool that makes an "F" and "L". <_<

here's a picture of the "L". not very noticeable also in this picture. imagine, if the only scratch they made was the "L", i'd let that one slip off, because it isn't obvious. it's only obvious now becuz there's an "F" also.

it's the one towards the right side

o i thought u were talking about the one next to the right...i never even new that other one was there....maybe it was pressed against something that had the letters F and L...hmm...go look around at the dealers place and see if there is any thing it could have been marked by..if they they let u.. :)

For the backwards F, I have no idea what could've caused that. I would think that the other 2 scratch marks would be from when the mechanic was using the air wrench to loosen the lugnuts, and dragged the tip of the wrench over the rim and scratching the surface. You could probably try buying a small bottle, 1 oz. or so, of silver touch up paint and see if that reduces the visibility of the marks.

Den,

I can definitely see the letters, but I can't tell how deep they go.

How about you try some scratch remover followed by wax? My guess is it would make the scratches much less noticeable.

I've used Mother's California Gold Scratch Remover for some time, though I heard NuFinish just released one that's supposed to be great.

I'm bewildered..i have no idea what that F means LOL

my guess would be, "Front" then the "L" for "Left" . actually, if it wasn't for the "F", i would let them get away with the "L" because it really doesn't look like a perfect L. now the "F" is what annoys me (backwards too) so it looks like (when someone else sees it) somebody vandalized my rim on purpose or something.... <_<

i like the idea of the first one ,but there's no touch-up paint for the rim though.... <_< Same thing for the 2nd one. I guess i'll try those scratch removers and wax. But then again, everytime i think about it, I always want the dealer to either fix it or get me a new rim.

Thanks for the links!! :D
