  1. I Kind of agree with Monarch on the point of the condition of the serpentine Belt, since your not losing any fluid. Had Simular problems. A couple of days after it started raining I started to hear a High pitch whine ( I would swear it came from the power steering pump). The whine did increase and decrease with RPM's After driving the car(10-20 Min.) the whine would stop or be reduced (If the whine you hear is constant then it might not be the same issue) After two weeks and a power steering flush, filter cleanings, and added inline filter I took the car to a mechanic. Mechanic told me it was my belt. He said sometimes the moisture in the air bring out the worst in a belt. Went to auto parts picked one up and replaced it. High pitch whine was gone. The belt I removed visually look in good condition(apperently Not). Just food for thought.
  2. The fan does not start when i enable the air manually. I can press low, medium, and high. I can see the lights over the buttons change accordingly just no air. It Happened again today. I believe its the fan. Would like to know the location of the fan before I start dismantalling? I'm going to reseat the connector on the back of the control panel for starters. Anyone know how to get to the fan, or a diagram? 93 LS400 Thanks
  3. Help!!! It's hot and this week the fan did not start up 3 out of 8 times. That is 1 time too many. The 3 times that it did not turn on when I pushed the button, the fan or Fans (i think it is one but not sure) seem to start turning after a while say after from 30 seconds to 10 min later. Maybe I hit bumps in road or the air from the outside is helping the fan start to spin, maybe just debri. I know it's not the fuse as it starts up sometimes fine. Does anyone know where to find the fan to check connectivity and the fan? Any Ideas? 93 LS400 Thanks, Any Help would be appreciated
  4. My wife had the same issue with her car. Well at least the stall for a second at the red light. Replaced fuel filter as well, with no results. Decided to changed spark plugs (figured I needed to change the spark plugs Anyway). Found that the ignition Cables were bad. The first one i tried to pull out broke. Part stayed on the spark plug. Replaced Ignition Cables (not Much of a choice). Problem Solved in My case. Tote
  5. Are you using water or Coolant? #7 implies Coolant, #8 Sounds more like water. Had coolant in mine and it slowly disappeared on long trips or when I used the A/C and I would just add water. Maybe twice a week I would add some water in the reservoir. On day on a very hot day in palm springs it started to steam from the driver side. Parked in a gas station (no mechanic) let it cool down and added water. Got back to LA and Didn't get the car checked just was missing a little bit of water. About a week later the timing belt was changed and coolant was used to refill the cooling system. Well the next day when I went to pick up the car the mechanic told me that a hose behind the engine was leaking and he replaced it( free of charge). Showed me the one he pulled out. About 3 to 4 inches long, if that and about the same thickness as the hoses that go to the reservoir. After that the coolant level never changed. Coolant should just drip and give you a good Idea of where to look. If not got to a a radiator place, I'm sure they could do a pressure test. Pretty sure you have a small leak. Good Luck
  6. Can You guys give a little more info on the Rattle and Vibrations? Is it constant? In My Case I get it when I am close to making a full turn. just a bit before the wheels stop. Example. Would not feel when making a left or right hand turn but would feel when making a u-turn or 3 point turn (not Always felt). Items considered: Steering fluid - it's half way on hot- maybe needs more. Will wait and see. Tires - Since I don't always feel it maybe the rubber and type of pavement I'm on. Now considering the steering rack grommet after reading this post. Depending on feedback. Tote
  7. I have some LS400's And I would definetly like to put a 10" instead of the stock 8" sub. Any particular brand? I know I tried to put a ten but it looked like I would have to cut a bit. Maybe the frame on the sub I tried was to Big. Did you add a spacer? Tote
  8. This Is what I used and It seems to match up on my 93LS. Took A volt meter and the powers and grounds line up. It would also be easy to test the sub out puts. just narrow it down till you have just the preouts left over. Can't remember where I found this. Tried the web site on pic, but that didn't seem right. Again this semmed to match up on A 93 not sure about a 95. Worth checking.
  9. Hey guys, I had a similar problem with my first LS. My equipment was different but the fix might be something you might be able to look into. Either way I will be leaving the stock system in my latest LS and change out the Amp and Sub. System in first LS was Kenwood head unit with 3 preouts. 2 Kenwood amps a 2channel and a 4channel. The 3rd preout on the receiver was a throughput or you could ajust sub frequencies. This 3rd preout was connected to 2 channel kenwood (set to mono) which in turn was connected to one JLAudio 12W3V2 . The Bass was most depressing to say the least. No matter with way I face the sub, and the settings on the receiver, it just was not going to the cabin as much as I would want too. If I opened the trunk the bass was just everywhere and I wished it sounded like that in the cabin. After much frustration, even looking into other amps I decided to put an electronic crossover in the trunk and make the 3rd preout a throughput on the receiver. The difference was from night to day. The bass was heart felt and no mater where I place the sub in the trunk it sounded the same up front.. The sub seemed to use less power as the cone didn’t move nearly as much and was so much cleaner and louder. I could put a cd in and enjoy the music in all styles of music from easy listening to heart pumping hip hop and old school rap. Even though I thought that if I kept it all Kenwood they would have been made to sound the best, there is nothing like getting equipment from companies that specialize in their field. I did not want to get Kenwood amps but I couldn’t justify spending so much on amps. After putting in the electronic crossover I have a different respect for Kenwood amps. I’ve had better but for the price not bad. I think the problem that you are having is the signal going to the amp could be better. This month I will be tackling this item, which involves replacing my stock sub and amp. Will be trying with and with out crossover and using the radios sub pre outs and the amps output with high to low converter. Will post findings when I’m done. Can everyone with this problem please let me know how you Equipment is connected? It could help the rest of us when we attempt to install our replacement sub and amps. If you replaced it and it sound good and had no problems please post how you connected and if possible the equipment used? Thanks
  10. LANLEX, Hope you figured it out, but if not, do a search for power stering and the thread that has all the useful info and pictures has a topic title of "500 Miles From Home And Power Steering Going Out" That threads was Started by " 914LPS" if you can search by user. 914lps put some awesome info as far as power steering issues in general. He has some great links, which got me through my power steering head aches Hope that helps jschunke, I haven't added a filter on my other LS's yet (I will now). Great find on that A1 Cardone Part#20FLT1 for $1.52. Just comes to show what can happen with a little reseach.
  11. Looks like champange. If you go to the Lexus site and click “owners” you will be able to set up a profile or something like that. It will let you add your VIN number. It will tell you the color of the car. That’s how I figure out mine was champagne. Good Luck. Car looks good.
  12. How can you determine or test to see if the rack is the culprit? My PS pump was leaking ang I had the Pump and High pressure hose replaced. I also put a Magnefilter (transmission fluid filter with Magnet) on the low pressure return hose. I also flushed the power steering fluid as stated on your (Lexls) site. Also cleaned screen on rack. System still squeals or groans for the first 5 mins of the day and every once in a while, when I turn a corner, I can feel a power seering issue. Very fustrating to say the least. I do not see white smoke, and my fluid level has not changed since the pump and hose have been changed out. The pump I hvee now is the second one, as I returned the first one thinking it was faulty. I've assumed since I hear the whine at the pump it must be the pump. Now I wonder about the rack, and how to diagnose it. I'm going to go insane if I can't figure this out. Any help would be appreciated Tote
  13. Thanks for the response. I ended up calling one of those dismantaling, wrecking yards and they had one for $100. I think I over payed but I wanted it done today. After researching the function of the crossmember I decided to replace it. Used but complete and solid, Mine was missing an area which was about 2inches in diameter and was starting to crack all the way through. Wouldn't of thought of asking for welding certifications. Will Now. Tote
  14. Hello all, my wife told me she ran over something on the road several days ago. 1991 LS400 Today, I looked under the car and to my surprise the crossmember( by Rack and Pinion) was chip and had a crack in it. Can't imagine what she ran over. My question is can it be welded and secured? I don't know if it will continue to crack. Is welding it, a foolish thought? Should I just replace it? I would have a shop replace it, as it seemed like more than I can handle. Any info would be appeciated. Thanks Tote
  15. Hello, thanks for the reply. I did empty the reservoir and see a screen it does seem dirty. It also seems as though it is torn and hanging(that's if its suppose to be flat). probably clogging the line. Will check tommorrow morning in day light. If it is just hanging I will pull it completely out. If I do remove the screen, I will be looking for an inline filter to put on the line that provides fluid to the pump. The same line that is use to flush the system. I have extra hose if needed. Any recommendation on the type of filters to use that can be used for this application? What do you guys think? Any Pros or cons? Thanks Again Tote
  16. In the morning my power steering pump whines. So I did some reading and have flushed the fluid and cleaned the filter on the rack under the car. I saw a picture of what I was looking for and felt confident in doing the work. Also saw tutorial on how to flush system. My thing, is that I like to see what I'm getting myself into (looking for)? I read that there is a second filter in the area of the pump itself. I do not want to take everything apart and find out that there is no second filter as I cannot find one picture of what it looks like or where it is located. If any one that has actually cleaned or actually seen the second filter. please let me know where it is that I need to focus on. A picture would be best if possible or a link as to where I can find a pic or tutorial for the second filter. Any info would be appreciated. Thnaks in advance LS400 93' Tote
  17. Just wanted to put closure to this thread. I did replace the thermostat today and what a difference. It warms up like it's suppose to and the gauge isn't moving down any more. Problem solved. Thanks Again
  18. Here's a picture of the silencer? Hope I did it right.
  19. The sub silencer at least that’s what they called it at the dealer is connected to the housing for the air filter. Right after the air filter, the housing on my 93 LS400 has a hose (about an inch wide) that runs parallel with the front of the car and terminates at a pipe that sticks out the front of the engine (the rest of the housing goes to the throttle). It is visible just with the hood open, no need to move anything. Maybe about 1 to 1 1/2 feet of hose. Between that hose is a silencer that is suppose to keep the hose quiet. I know that my 90' and 91" do not have this hose and or silencer. I do not have a digital camera, as I lost mine recently and haven't replaced it. I’m going to see if I can find a picture on the net or through this forum. Thanks Again Tote
  20. Hello, I noticed that my sub-silencer ( I believe that's what they called it when I ordered it) Was broken at the point where it connects to the hose. Basically hose and silenser was disconnected. Well to get to the point, the first time I noticed it, I had the engine on and heard the air being sucked in, with some force. I order the part and should be getting it in the next couple of days. Today, I had the car on and I noticed no air suction what so ever from the silencer. My fear is that it is clogged up with debri or leaves or something to that extent. I do not notice any thing different, as far as the car turning on and running. If anyone has any info on what's going on, or if I could or should attempt to clean it out, please let me know? I did remove the hose and inpect it, and found no blockage. Thanks in advance Tote
  21. Thanks for your responses, I kind of suspected the thermostat, but wanted to see if everyone else felt the same. I will be replacing it this weekend. By the way do I need a gasket or any thing else when I put it back together? Thanks Again Tote
  22. Hello all, I notice that on my temp gauge it takes a while for the engine to get warm. Maybe 15 min. I've noticed that after it has hit normal temp. If I drive around, and I realize it is cold outside (Los Angeles - Not that cold), the gauge will drop a bit. Enough to make it noticable. I believe that at least on one occasion it reved a bit to warm up the car at a stop. Is this normal or am I just Paranoid? I also have a 90 and 91 ls400 which don't seem to have this issue. Issue is on 93 LS400 170K miles Any Info would be appreciated Thanks Tote
  23. Car Looks Sweet. I have to say that with the rims and lights, it gives the car a realy nice look without taking away from the car. After seeing your car I am going to seriously consider getting my lights changed out. Car looks great. Wish I could get dubs. Tote
  24. Hello, I recently (2 Months ago) had my timing belt changed and the mechanic inspected my car and said the heater control valve had a leak. I told him to skip it as the part alone was over $140. at his price. I saw the part and it did look like fluid had leaked and dried. I can't really tell, it almost looks like it is coming from the hose underneath. None the less, I now want to change it and wanted to know if I should be aware of anything before I try to take on this project? It seems stright forward. It seems as if I should be able to change the hoses attached to the heater control valve as well. I checked out newlexusparts.com and they had this listed CONTROL valve, LS400 90-94 $65.06 Hvac - Heater - Control valve Is control Valve same as heater control Valve? If so is that site and price decent? I haven't called the dealer for a quote yet, cause they always make me sick to my stomach. Espeacially if I can do it myself. Any Info would be appreciated Tote 1990 Ls400
  25. Hi all, it has been raining in Los Angeles and yesterday when I looked in the trunk I noticed the mat in the trunk was wet. I felt around in the trunk to try to feel where the water was leaking in from. No luck, all seemed dry on the walls. I cleaned the rubber seal or gasket (don't no what it's called) that goes between the trunk and rear chassis. Made sure it was free of leaves and other debris. This morning it was wet again. Anyone have any tips or tricks to trying to figure out where the leak is coming from? Any Ideas would be appreciated? As I write this, I’m thinking about how my antenna doesn’t go down and is bent a little. Could it leak through the antenna? I’m worried about the rust. Thanks in Advance Tote
