  1. They're @sses over there... I did some cluster repairs (replacing backlighting with custom LED, modifying the needles with LED) on ebay 2 summers ago. Few months go by, and i get a letter from them threatening to sue for patent rights. It's a shame they do such crappy work too... They're hacks. I did it the right way, honestly when i was done with a cluster it looked better than new. But they don't do very good work... I guess they have a right to be moody since they're the only people who can legally do the cluster repairs
  2. what is it? A hatchback??
  3. I'm sure they're a direct replacement... but they look so odd dontcha think?
  4. You would need a philips 4300k D2R bulb, product number 85126. Make sure you get the 85126 as there are several different types with different numbers. You can find used ones on ebay anywhere between $10 and $30. Chances are they are still good. Definitely don't buy a new one to replace it. As these bulbs age, they change color and intensity. If you replace one side with a new bulb and leave the other side old, you will be able to see the difference in color and output and it won't look good. Either replace the burned out side with a use bulb, or replace both side bulbs with brand new. You can get a pair of new bulbs for ~$130 shipped. Again, check ebay.
  5. The problem isn't with the pedal itself "sticking", it's with the computer and components after that point. The pedal will be "released" when you let go, but the computer and components outside the cabin act differently. That's the problem with an electronic system. It's not mechanical anymore. My guess as to why Toyota didn't include an override (causing the engine to idle if the gas and brake are depressed at the same time) is because of people who ride their brakes. A LOT of people do it (using two feet, one for the brake and one for the gas) and they are often pressing both pedals at the same time. If Toyota included this override, every other 10 feet the engine would be cutting out. I know a lot of the older folks do this, don't really know why. It's the only reason i can think of...
  6. SW, there's no sure way to tell if it's the ballast or the bulb that's failing. Try switching the left and right bulbs and see if the problem is still present. My bet is on the bulb however. It's the same with fluorescent bulbs, they can be temperamental especially with temperature changes. If it's the bulb, i'd recommend replacing it with another used bulb, NOT a new one. Or better yet, replace both bulbs with new ones. Depends on how much longer you want to keep your car for... If you replace one side with a new bulb and leave the other side used, you will notice a huge difference. Both in color and output, especially in color. The OEM bulb in your ES is the Philips D2R 85126. There are many different models from Philips, so make sure it's the right one. The number (85126) will be written on the base. Also make sure the bulb has never been re-based either. Definitely stick with the OEM bulb and number. Different branded bulbs will NEVER match in color or intensity. You can find used 85126's on ebay for anywhere between $10 and $30 each- they're extremely common. Odds are that they're still good and will match the other bulb. I wouldn't pay more than $130/pair new... I you go new, buy them from HIDconcept. I've purchased numerous sets of bulbs from them and i know they're REAL. There are a lot of imitations out there. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-PHILIPS-D...sQ5fAccessories If the ballast is the issue, you can get used denso ballasts on ebay for less than $100/each. It's a pain to replace, but there's not much else you can do. :(
  7. Yeah, check for auto-leveling. When you turn on the car, if you see the beam rise and lower and rise back, then you've got HID. If not, then halogen.
  8. I hope this possible flaw with toyota quality will cause them to really improve in the future. We've been noticing a slight decrease in quality lately... Sometimes it takes something really big to get someone thinking <_<
  9. Oh good, i'm glad you got it straightened out :D
  10. Yeah, i definitely want the OEM mats. I just don't know where to get them!
  11. You can get to it by removing the black wheel well liner. I highly doubt your seems dim because of the bulb. Small halogen bulbs like that don't dim with age...
  12. Awesome! Glad i could help :D
  13. Well some of the 99-03 headlights develop a sort of "haze" on the front lens just from dirt and debris and UV etc. It can be polished off rather easily. The main problem you're gonna have with aftermarket is that, well, it's aftermarket. It might not fit just right, the quality of materials is not as strong as OEM, and there will probably be less UV protection. They might not be sealed and vented perfectly which could cause fogging etc. I'm sure the aftermarket ones will be "OK", but i wouldn't count on them lasting more than 5 years or so without some type of issue. And i'm not sure about any replacement headlight from autozone...
  14. Hey guys, I've been wanting to buy a set of the OEM all-weather (rubber) floor mats for my Rx400h to protect the carpets from the rain, snow, salt and sand etc. I've stumbled across a few "used" sets on ebay, but i'd rather buy new. I've known about the Es350 floor mat "runaway car" issue that's caused Lexus to recall all their mats, but apparently this goes for the Rx400h as well. I tried to purchase a new set from LexusParts.com, Parts.com, Carson toyota/Lexus/scion etc, but a few days after the purchase i get an email stating the mats are no longer available for sale. I e-mailed them as to why they are not for sale, and i got the response of: "Hello Christopher, I am sorry to inform you that yes the All Weather Mats are not for sale at this point. They are on stop sale not a recall. They are not selling this for now untill they solve the problem. Since there was a incident that person had several mats on top of each other and had a accident. So Toyota just to play it safe is not selling these mats untill its solved." So what do you think i should do to get a set of these mats? I don't care if i get the recalled set, as honestly the issue isn't with the mats themselves as it is with stupid drivers not knowing how to secure them... The prices for the set from the sites above is around $90+shipping which is reasonable, but i'm not sure how much the dealer would charge. Thanks for any help! :D
  15. This problem happens to people who are not educated about how their car works. If turning the ignition OFF does not work, then simply move the gear into "Neutral". If you put it into "Reverse", the car would just simply go in "Neutral", especially on the newer computer controlled transmissions. Moving the shifter controls a series of switches that tells the computer what gear to be in. It's not mechanical anymore... I've taken the shifter units out of cars (both the Rx300 and Rx400h) and trust me, no mechanical wires going to the transmission! It's all electric. This whole runaway car thing is rediculous. Blaming an insecurely fastened car mat for your not knowing how to move your car in neutral and applying the brake and "emergency brake" is stupid. If you dropped your handbag and it got caught on the gas pedal and you didn't know how to turn your car off, are you gonna blame the bag company?? Read your manuals people :D
  16. no prob. And i think the dash indicator light only works in conjunction with the rear lights, everything that's red. Doesn't work for the directionals, back-up, or any of the front bulbs... maybe the parking bulbs though. So the issue is only with the rear bulbs.
  17. K, that's what's supposed to happen in the fuses. The plastic exterior shell should remain unharmed while the internal wire should be broken. You probably just accidentally crossed the wires installing the new one, it's no biggie- i did it a million times working on all of the projects i did in my Rx300. No harm done, that's what the fuse is for :D
  18. Not worth wet-sanding and buffing. Buy a used set of OEM headlights on ebay, NOT aftermarket. The ones you posted are aftermarket, not from Lexus in any way. They are replicas that will cause you many problems... You can find used 99-00 version Rx300 headlights for less than $100. You may want to opt for the 01-03 Rx300 version headlights as i'm not aware of any "known" fogging issue with this series. They are the same size and are a direct replacement, the only difference is the use of chrome on the inside vs black. Also, if going with the 01-03 series headlights, make sure they are the halogen version NOT the HID version.
  19. You can't swap the armrests, as the each have a "pin" that controls movement that's guided by a panel in the seat, and each is shaped differently. Your best bet is to find a used seat and ask for the armrests to be taken off. You can pry off the round plastic piece at the pivot (it's friction fit) and use a socket wrench (not sure about the size) to remove the bolt that's holding it to the seat itself. Just be careful removing the bolt as there are a series of washers that are special.
  20. I did this when i had my Rx300. Pretty easy to do. Remove the "U" shaped wood panel (which is connected to the black heated seat button area) by prying at the bottom with a screwdriver. It's only held on with clips. Then you'll be able to see the shifter panel and gain access to the side of it where you'll find the bulb.
  21. You say the fuse is MELTED? Or just blown out? A simple short will blow the fuse but shouldn't melt it. You must have had the plug shorted for an extended period of time for it to melt. I doubt the splitter or any of the other components or wiring is the issue. If installed correctly everything should work just fine. Next time, try installing it with the car off so no juice is being sent to the plug. OR, just remove the fuse while installation, and put in a fuse after. If it shorts right away, you'll know something's wrong. And remember polarity- don't switch the wires as that will definitely cause a short circuit. <_<
  22. Every once and a while i will hear strange noises emitting from the Rx400h. It's a hybrid vehicle so it's expected you will hear different noises than those you'd hear from a gas-only vehicle. I'm not sure of the specific noise you're speaking of, but i wouldn't worry about it.
  23. 7440 and 7443 are NOT the same bulb... <_< They are the same "size", but the internal components are different. 7440 has one filament inside. It's designed for ON or OFF. 7443 has two filaments inside. It's designed for one filament to be ON, and allows for the second filament to go ON separately- like brake lights. When you're replacing them with LED-bulbs there's no difference between 7440 and 7443. But when replacing them with bulbs you need to keep them the same type. I'm not sure if that's what's causing the problem but it's worth a try. Your rear turn signals call for 7440 (because they're either ON or OFF) And your regular taillight brake lights call for 7443 (filament A is ON at night and filament B comes on when you apply the brakes, making them get brighter). If this doesn't work, i'd suggest removing the warning bulb from the gauge cluster. That's what i opted to do when i replaced the taillight bulbs with LED's in my Rx300. It was easier than having to install load resistors (which wouldn't even fit behind my headlights). Just take the cluster apart and remove or destroy the indicator light bulb. 24. Touching the sensor tricks the computer into thinking there's water on the glass, because when you press the sensor you move the little "bubbles" in the film which simulate rain droplets.
  25. Damn!! That's awful... Check your engine air filter too, he might have been able to get in there too <_<
