  1. I know a guy that live 15 miles away from me and has three 1UZ's with 5-speeds behind them. Granted they are all on 4x4's and rock crawlers, but you could probably custom mount it. He has all the wireing figured out so everything works nice and proper. Take off the 500lbs. worth of mufflers and your set. There are several ways to put an LS on a diet. For instance after taking out my solid 20lbs. of factory radio and changer, I noticed significant mpg increase :D

  2. All you need is some H&R sports springs, daizin sway bar bushing, brembo breaks, and a custom supercharger. LOL that is my dream for my LS anyway. Another option you have is buy a motorcycle. I'm getting my motocycle liscence in may and plan to purchase a bike in late summer-early fall. That will give you all the thrills you could ask for.

  3. I saw that car on ebay a little bit ago and called up the seller just to ask about the color. It belonged to an elderly gentelman who hated the factory pearl white. So when he got into a minor finder-binder, he desided to repaint the whole car. I thinks its kind of hard justify going from beautiful pearl white to UGLY red over paint matching a fender. Old people logic I guess LOL.

  4. I generaly only use OEM parts when I absolutly have to, or if the price diffrence is not substantial. If you get quality aftermarket parts that you can trust you will be fine, but if you want the worry free garentee you should go oem. I generally cant afford oem, so I try hard to find the best deals on quality after market parts. I haven't had any problems yet with aftermarket and I am about to put in an after market rack and pinion. I did however buy OE tie rod ends and PS return hose because the tie rod ends where the same price both ways and the high pressure hose is both unique and criticle. I don't want it failing in the middle of the road.

  5. I just bought the parts. Outer tie rod ends and high pressure hose from swell for just about $490. The rack was ordered from autozone for $260 plus $150 core and will arrive tuesday. I leave for New York on friday, so I wont be able to have them installed until I get back, but I will be shure to post back when I do. Thanks for all the great info you guys have gave me. This place ROCKS

  6. One of two things causing your power steering oil to leak. First (and most likely) is power steering pump, second (also very common) rack and pinion leaking at inner tie rod seals. Used rack and pinion (with 6 months warranty) can be obtained thru www.car-parts.com for as low as $60.00 replacement takes (for me) about 1.5 hour. Power steering pump (rebuilt with 1 year warranty) can be bought at Your local auto zone for about $170.00 replacement time about 2.0 hours for that.

IMPORTANT: If Your power steering pump is leaking it will quickly destroy Your alternator as well since it is located directly below power steering pump.

Is there a tutorial on Rack and pinion replacement for a 93. Mine needs replaced and I was wondering if it's a reasonable job to do myself? What all is envolved? any info on it would be great.

  7. 95 LS400 with 150k miles. I am having a major, and very dangerous problem that I hope you can help with. After driving on the highway for a long trip, and when I get off and start to slow down / come to the first stop, my car konks out! Sometimes this happens before I come to a complete stop and Im still moving but the car has shut down. Almost got in a wreck because of this today. I put it in neutral and it starts up no problem. Put it in gear and Im on my way.

This NEVER happens when Im traveling locally, just coming off a highway trip. Is this an idle air control valve issue? Any help or insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have no clue as to the problem, but do have a suggestion...

as you come to your exit, slow down, pull on the shoulder, let it die, crank it up and continue on safely. my 95 has never done this.@162k. bp

Sounds like it's possibly your Idle Air Control Valve on your Power Steering Pump. It's the black plastic valve with two barb fittings and vacuum hoses attached to it that points down and toward the passenger side front wheel well.

Start the car in your driveway, press the brake pedal, put in drive and turn the steering wheel. If your RPM's drop or the engine actually dies, the IACV should be replaced. Some people just remove the hoses and plug them. When it happened to me, I replaced the valve.

I dont mean to be an A$$, but please get the vocab. right. The Idle air control valve is on the front of the engine and cost about $1000 to replace. The Idle up valve or idle control valve is located near the PS pump and is about $80-$100 for the part. I believe the latter is what your refering to. Again no offence, but having delt with this problem, I can't let somebe missenformed. Even if it's un-intentional. However I do believe that its an ecu problem not a result of this valve.

  8. Oh by the way...

My favorite feature of my LS is the magnet!!!!! HAHAHAHA

And since this is a family friendly forum I'll just say that I hope you've seen Borat to get that joke!

Hah "does a this comea weeth the maganeta?" The "cat" magnet ;)

    LOL BORAT is the greatest

  9. I just took my car to exact performance to see what is recomended for my susspinsion and PS system. They said I need a new rack and pinion ($790 P&L) my PS high pressure hose($609 P&L if done with rack and pinion) Both front tie rod ends need to be replaced ($114 left $94 right P&L)BTW why is the left more than the right? ?They also recommended strongly that Both rear upper control arms be replaced for $886 P&L. I was wondering if I could do any of ths myself, and how these prices compare. Of course I will need 4-wheel alignment for $85. Should I buy the parts from carson, oreilly, or just let them take care of it? BTW they will install parts I bring in. THX

Gosh, that's quite a bit of work. Which mechanic looked over your car?

I would purchase the parts yourself. It is much less expensive that way. I generally like to stick with OEM Toyota parts on my car. A remanufactured steering rack (still an OEM part) would be OK to purchase from O'Reilly's, but I would get everything else from Sewell Lexus or Carson's.

Thanks a lot. that was a big help. Exact didn't give me the break down for parts and labor, but I think I can asume that it will be cheaper to buy the parts myself. I do plan on calling them to see what the cost is just for labor. Again thanks for those link Thomas.

  10. The Idle Air Control Valve is on the front of the engine and is not cheap( ie. try cleaning it first). The Idle up valve that controls power steering feel at different speeds is under the PS pump and is about $80. When it falls it causes your engine to burn PS fluid and therfore causing excessive white smoke on startup. Your problem sounds more like a failing alternator than a IACV probelm. Have your alternator checked. Is there any PS fluid leaking onto the alternator? If so it might be your o-ring seals on the PS pump. Post back with more info. BTW Welcome to the club I've been here for about six months and have found this place to be an invalueable resource.

  12. I know a guy that works at my local oreilly and can hook me up with an optima for $100 cash, brand new. Should I get a red top or yellow top? Or not at all? I wont be getting a warentee, but it a brand new optima, so I don't think I'm too woried. BTW why are optima's so good?
