could also be that the timing belt is 16 years old (if it is the original one). Just heat alone will be enough to crack and dry out a rubber timing belt. Rubber accessory belts and timing belts have a life expectancy of 5-7 years, anything after that is borrowed time. I would also suggest you change out the water pump at the same time. Figure while the mechanic is in there, saves on doing the same work twice. steviej

compare any extended warranty you consider. Read all the fine print. Find out what is covered, find out if you pay up front then have to wait to get reimbursed, find out what is NOT covered. Do not expect that all extended warranties are create equal....they are not. steviej

I used a K&N rechargable air filter in my 02 ES for three years and found no noticable or significant difference other than it was just easier to put in a new disposable filter once a year than it was to wash and reoil the K&N. steviej

I just had the fuel line replacement done yesterday so it is to early to tell but I will be watching it. I average about 22-24 mpg around town. It took my dealership 7 hours to do all three service campaigns and I didn't smell any gas when I got the car back. steviej

I had all three service campaign items done yesturday. Car went in at 8am and I had it back by 4pm all washed and vacuumed. By dealerships puts two guys on each car that is having this done to expedite the work. I asked them about any Lexus directed service limitations such as only doing two per day, or limits on the number of parts that a dealership can order, etc. She said she has heard no such directions by Lexus. steviej

Actually, it is in the later models. If memory serves me correctly, interference engines started with the 1999 model year. All years prior to that are non-interference. Correct, In 1999 when the 1MZ-FE went to VVT-i it became an interference engine. (VVT-i stands for Variable Valve Timing with intelligence. It doesn't make sense because the commercial doesn't compare the 2009 Supercharged Audi A6 to the 01 ES or to the 80's BMW. The theme/title/essence of the commercial was "Progress is Beautiful". The car driver evolves throughout the commercial as does his need for/taste for FAST get-away cars. (I would have passed on the ES as well because it ain't fast at all.) I think some of us Lexus lovers took that commercial a little to close to the heart and missed the gist of their marketing ploy. steviej

First off, P1133 is the code for the Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor (Bank 1 Sensor1). Bank 1 is the rear bank of cylinder, the three closest to the firewall and windshield. Sensor 1 is the one up high, between the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter. Is this the one you replaced? Secondly, code P0125 is "Insufficient Coolant Temperature for Closed Loop Fuel Control" I would suspect a faulty coolant temperature sensor. After the A/F sensor was replaced, did you at least have the codes reread to see if at least the P1133 code was rectified? steviej

you should hear the distinct squeal of the brake wear indicator. It is a small piece of metal that will barely touch the rotor as the pads wear down. This contact creates a vibration in the indicator. That vibration will be heard as a high pitched squealing noise when the car is rolling but not when the brake pedal is applied. If you routinely rotate your tires, then that is a good time to look. The brake pads have a channel that you can see that give you an indication of how much pad material is left. If your front wheels are coated with black brake dust, you should be able to just roll into your dealership and ask about the TSB that will take care of it. Tell them you are tired of your Lexus reminding you of a Mercedes Benz. steviej

I agree, check the fuse. Location is in the described/discussed in the owners manual. Also, please see the thread about the 2006 2007 GS recall. The electric power steering units are being replaced on many vehicles. You may have one of the faulty ones. Given that the car is now in Europe, hope for the fuse. steviej

Well, I was going to say something but I guess I'll respect your wishes and keep my big mouth shut. JUPBOY89, You are new to this forum and most likely new to other car forums as well. You are more than welcome here. Just one little piece of advice: attitude is not tolerated here. I am not saying you have one, but be careful on how you word your posts. People can only read words here and it is difficult to interpret tone from a computer screen. With that being said, when you post and ask for people's opinions, be prepared to read the positive opinions and as well as the negative opinions. Regardless of whether you ask not for the negatives, you will get them, you cannot not filter them. Now. In my honest opinion, I would go more than a 19" rim and the car would have to be lowered. 20" rims on an ES makes it look like a bug ready to pounce. I saw one once, looked like one of those Bayou Mud Bogging machines. Not a fan. On my 02, I didn't black out my tails but rather silverrized the amber bulbs. I used stealth bulbs to eliminate the fried egg appearence front and back. Turned the entire light more silver and euro. Let me know if you are interested as I have some bulbs left and they are yours if you want them. steviej

My 06 GS300 AWD has an end plug on the cannister and the whole thing in on an angle. Taking the entire cannister off can be messy if you don't know what to expect. steviej

Don't have great expectations for the illuminatability of your foglights if you have HID headlights as they will several out power the fogs. I found changing the fog bulb to a PIAA Ion crystal gave a nice crisp yellow color that contrasted the HID very tastefully. The stock H3 fog bulbs are a very dull bland color. You can change out those bulbs easily to something that looks brighter, PIAA Xtreme White, Sylvania Silverstar, PIAA Plasma GT-X or anything you want. Keep in mind though, if you want to get close to the HID hue then you need to be over a kelvin rating of 4100k, closer to 6000k is better but the increase in k won't increase your illuminatability. steviej

you read the manual. on the stick that has the headlight control, there is a twist ring half way down the stalk. That turns on/off the foglights. When they are on, there is an indicator light lit up on the dashboard. But seriously, read the manual. steviej

The rubber O-rings come in the package with the new replacement cartridge. This is true for the Toyota/Denso product as well as the aftermarket versions (STP and FRAM). They most likely went to this version to get more people to have the oil changed at the dealership than DIY in their own driveway. On the "green" side, it is less waste of metal and parts when thrown away and this type is easier to produce. steviej

1. turn ignition on but do not start the car. 2. set odometer to total miles, not trip A or B. 3. turn the ignition to off. 4. press and hold the trip mile reset button. 5. while holding the button, turn the ignition to on (not start!). 6. continue to hold down the reset button until the MAINT reminder light flashes. 7. After if flashes, it should go out. 8. then turn the ignition to off. 9. go have a beer. steviej

Yes they can only if the aftermarket rims are TPMS acceptable. Best thing to do is check with the manufacturer of the new rim to see if the new rim will proper hold the sensors. steviej

its behind door #1. If it is in the same place as the 06 GS300 it is a cannister style filter with a cartridge (not a spin on) that is just behind a flop down trap door panel which is just inside of the left front (driver's) wheel when looking at the car from below. steviej

I put a bottle of Chevron w/Techron (synthetic formula) in the tank on every other oil and filter change (~every 10k miles). Don't know if it is actually doing anything to the injectors, but in my mind, I feel better thinking it is. steviej
