  1. As informative as all sides are, this thread has drifted from the original topic. Some posts are bordering on antagonistic and sarcastic. That is not what this forum is for. If we can't discuss things like rational adults without the LOLs and the like, then I have no choice: This post is closed. If you wish to continue a discussion on burden of proof, owner responsibilites, etc. then please start a new thread in General Discussion forum. steviej ES Forum Moderator.
  2. the plug is to the back left (standing in front of the car) of the oil pan. It is the six sided bolt. the hex heads are as dcfish said....the tranny and diff drain plugs. I'll snap a pic this weekend if I can. steviej
  3. ya know, I knew that. it was the mention of the clutch in the orginal post that got me on the wrong track. Thanks for the reminder sk. steviej
  4. I shall give a look for you at my library tomorrow. steviej.
  5. you and Rosey are in my thoughts and prayers. steviej
  6. Please read the guidelines in the Buy & Sell Forum. Provide the remaining information and I will move this post to that section for you. (since your post count is <20, you will not be able to post directly in that forum.) thanks for your cooperation. steviej
  7. Help us out, do you have an automatic or a manual transmission.......how many pedals in the driver's area? If it is a manual, then maybe the clutch is gone. Any strange smells when starting out, like metal melting or rubber burning? If it is an automatic, when was the last time the fluid was changed, may be the torque converter? In either case, it could be a trottle position sensor too. steviej
  8. a breaker bar or a socket wrench and a 14mm socket. (I think it was 14). have a large catch basin ready. You might want to wear a glove. steviej
  9. funny how the simplest solution is always the last suggested. excellent suggestion sk. steviej
  10. the high mileage motor oils have additives in them to help rejuvenate aging seals. They don't claim to bring them back from brittle, but they claim to soften and swell them a little so that the gap that are filling remains tightly filled. I do not know to what extent they actually help. The condition of seals themselves are going to be dependent on the frequency of oil change, the type of driving the car was used for, the climate and road conditions the car was driven on and in. Lots of variables. Is it a must? of course not. Most high milage formulas come in 10w-30 weights. Since you are in a southern climate, using a 10w-30 instead of a 5w-30 will not even be noticed by your engine. 10w-30 is also an alternate weight suggested in your owners manual (at least it is in mine). I don't really care about blends. Go one way or the other is my theory. I prefer synthetic simply due to the extreme cold that I encounter in New England winters. 50% of the oil changing world will tell you to use conventional, the other 50% will tell you to use synthetic. There are many many threads on the subject as you already know. The choice is up to you, and only you. You won't go wrong as long as you stick to a routine schedule of changing. Every 3000-5000 miles is what is generally suggested on most websites and by most resources. Change the filter with a qualitly filter, too. And every once in a while, if it tickles you fancy, have the oil tested to get a feel for whay the numbers look like on your engine. steviej
  11. Cool picture. I didn't realize you car was right hand drive. And the dog in the passenger's seat of the 18-wheeler looks like a huskie that I knew as a kid. You can make out his head, nose and ears. steviej
  12. have you tried your local library. Look in the huge Chilton's manual for IMPORTS. Look for Lexus ES 250 or the same year Camry. That may help. Have you tried the specific Haynes or Chiltons manual for the same year Camry? These are available at Amazon.com and bookstores such as Borders, Barnes and Nobles, Waldrons, etc. Let me know, I can go to my library, I know they have the huge Chilton's book. Last thing, if you are on good terms with you local Lexus dealership, ask them to photocopy the pages out of the actual shop manual if possible. steviej
  13. The GS is supposedly going to have an AWD version in 2005 or 2006. It is rumored that over the years, all lexus models will have an AWD version. The truth to the "all lexus models is unknown". by the way, it is not hush hush. Alot of people know of it. steviej
  14. contact PayPal and find out what ground you stand on. I have heard of PayPal reversing payments. You will never know until you ask. Call BBB, PayPal, etc. If you have a friend that is a lawyer or is related to one, etc, run it by them. Sometimes a simple letter from on lawfirm letter head speeds the shipping process. Keep on him and good luck. steviej
  15. I thought the J33s were recalled or replaced at no charge if the customer didn't like them. That goes back to posts in fall of 2003. Anyway. This has been recently discussed. here is a link. Toyos on an 03 ES, from ES forum try searching on Michelin. steviej

  20. skeemer, was it a 4 door. If not, I'm thinking Solara convertable. steviej
  21. search on this topic. Several other IS owners have had the same problem and posted discussions and solutions. Click on SEARCH (above), enter CHANGER as the search word, search in IS forum and search on TODAY with "older" selected. good luck. Is the car still under warranty, if so, take it to the dealer, you may get a new CD deck. steviej.
  22. how can they restock something that hasn't left the building? call your better business bureau. If you paid by credit card, cancel the payment immediately. steviej
  23. I went from 16s to 18s and it didn't bother the speedo. I stayed within the OD rating. you shouldn't have any problem. Make sure you inquire about proper lug nuts and hub centering rings if needed. Tirerack is pretty good. If you are getting rims and tires, then they ship ready for you to just put on. If you haven't had one in a while, you might want to consider a 4 wheel alignment after the wheels are mounted properly. Should be less than a C-note. Lastly, you don't have to lower the car either. I did not, but many people do. It is not a requirement to sizing up on the tires. good luck and post pics of your wheel/tire once mounted on the car. steviej
