  1. The life of a cold cathode is 25,000 hours, the life of an LED is 400,000 hours. Please state facts :)
  2. Ohh... the expert in this area is lextech.org. Might wanna ask him. Mike ← You should contact lextech.org They are the SC400/300 experts , ask for brian , NONE BETTER <_< ← needles from the 92-94 will only fit the 92-94. 95-96 needles are reverse voltage and cannot be applied to the unit. Infact, you will destroy the new needles, and possibly the diodes in the cluster if you are one of those with a bad luck streak. reversing the voltage on anything is a no-no.
  3. Incorrect..... same question, different forum. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=15615
  4. if you can draw over 120 amps in a mere second, you have one heckuva problem.
  5. You ask why your needles don't give you as much trouble with the headlights on. Try this experiment here: go outside and turn your dimmer switch just off of the high position click (full on) down with your headlights off. Didnt make a hill of beans difference did it? NOW keep it in that position and turn the headlights on. They dimmed! That's because the headlight circut will activate the second stage in the dimmer module when on and cut exactly .5 volt from the cluster. This is JUST ENOUGH to give the led's a slight break from "full voltage". That dimmer module is not just a knob, inside are a few chips and some diodes that regulate two lines to the cluster. one of them is full on (no headlights) one is controlled on (headlights on) which no matter what you do will always keep the cluster at .5 volt lower than the other way. Why? Lexus didn't actually plan on this to happen (actually nippendenso since they make the unit). It is simple electronic theory, more easily said "it's the way it is" . :) See, whan you add a diode inline it drops the voltage of the line exactly .5 to .6 volt. This is one of the characteristics of the diode in an electronic circut. It just happens that you can see this little quirk of electronic technology since the needles that are sufficiently damaged are leaning on the brink of self destruction if that little tiny amount of energy is applied and helps finish overheating them. You guy's wanna know the truth? That .5 volt extra is exactly what does the needles in...Nippendenso designed the clusters to run off of the dimmer module and never took into account what would happen if the headlights were off and bypassed the dimmer section #2 where the module kicks the diode in that saves the extra .5 volt. That's why they work fine with the headlights on. In short......... Design flaw. Why do the needles flicker? -- They "dance" and flicker under the concept of the "flasher module" relay. If anyone has ever seen how a flasher module works, a small thin piece of aluminum is layed against a hot post when the post is "hot" it heats the piece of metal up and it bends away from the pole for about 1 second (just enough time to cool down and return). After the cool down, the metal returns to the pole and the process is repeated. It heats back up, pulls away from the pole and cools back down and returns. What you see..... is flashing! the contact touches, pulls away, then cools down and touches again. WHOLA! you have a flasher relay. You also have a flasher needle too :) As the needle heats up it expands the contacts and they pull away. when they cool down about .4 tenths of a second later they come back, touch again, and bounce back off from expansion by the heat. You basically have a flasher relay going on not by your choice. What this looks like, is a "dance" in the needle. This should clear things up and if you need to ask anything else please feel free to email, I will be happy to help. It helps to get answers from an Engineer rather than a Technician. Techs just open units and replace parts, don't know why they failed, don't care, can't prevent it in the future.
  6. Grounding is very important. As an EE, I know that I deal with massive voltage changes from just maximizing my ground potential. HOWEVER, any car audio store will sell you the 4ga wire you need for about 1/2 to 1/3 of the usual grounding "kit" price, which is the same copper 4 ga found in grounding kit's. So get yourself a grounding kit? YES. Buy one pre-packaged rather than getting the wire yourself from an auto sound store? NO. Keep in mind that energy is created at the ground, not the hot post. The ground is EVERYTHING. Watch lightning strike on a high speed camera film. It comes from the ground up. You see the lightning reaction of positive energy erupt from the clouds and strike the ground....... AFTER the ground seeked the positive energy first. Ground is the source of all energy, and grounding kit's do help. The decision you must make is, do you have money to blow on a premade kit or would you rather cut the cost in half and buy strait off the spool?
  7. There is a lot more than that to a lexus SC. The ect not only changes the shift pattern of the transmission, it changes the throttle response also. The throttle in the SC is completely goverend from the ECU. If you work your way into the throttle normally until it is in the floor you will not get the same response as if you just stomp the gas. slowly working the throttle to the floor = 85% potential power when floored Stomping it opens the ecu wide open and feeds 100% to the motor. This isn't a chevrolet, it is designed to respond to the way it is driven. That ect button is more than the power button on a pontiac.
  8. just put some coolant in it and top the level all the way off.
  9. You are missing about 42 sensors that are anywhere from $15 to $248 each. Enjoy the hunt.
  10. There are 8 of them for the backlight review this picture. You may use either one. ~LLS
  11. You can drive with no problem however i would recommend resetting the computer since you are having problems. remove the battery cables and let it sit overnight. I haven't heard of this problem before out of 500+ cars, but somenoe has to be the first, eh?
  12. The sc300 will go about 250k while the sc400 has MANY running at over 350k. Expected life for the burly V-8 that never seems to die is around 300k. BUT, at 190k you need to be worried with bushings, bearings and other body/suspension related parts and not the engine, which will seemingly last forever. in short, check the maintenance records!
  13. As Zig said, it is your coolant light. References: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread...=carousel+light http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread...=carousel+light
  14. The title bar is in the original format and size. To change it you must go into the stylesheet and macro and edit the code. :) I did that to mine.
  15. Owww, my eyes. Too bright, especially for those running 20 inch lcd's. Sandstone looked better only because it wasn't so interfering to my eyeballs. It looks cleaner, by far, but the color is just a little too ripe. PS Matt, you haven't written back ;):) My forum has been up for almost a year, but not quite, and i use invisionboard. So i am very familiar with the code and admin functions. http://www.lextech.org/images/pics/llssforumcreenshot.JPG There's a screen shot, if hotlink protects it, cut and paste the link. I used the dark background and it made it a lot easier to read because it wasn't so bright. I also used the "snow" option in the manange template set area under skins and templates in the admin control panel.
  16. Just for future reference, one of the most simple things to check that can cause the same headaches and cost nothing to repair is the actual intake tube itself. The rubber dries out after a while and you might even go outside right now and grab the tube and flex it only to find you have cracks that are robbing you of performance. The fix is up to you, however after cleaning it with alcohol you can epoxy the area in question, use black electrical tape, or simply choose to spend money and replace it. Having an air leak on the tube can cause rough idle, poor starting, hesitation, lower fuel mileage, and poor performance overall. If your car is over 8 years old, the smaller cracks in it are certainly there and you can benefit from changing it. Food for thought before you make your way to the more expensive items. Had this user not needed an ecu and bought one, it would have been ugly.
  17. Since you spammed every forum....... B.S. go away.
  18. You can't have it ....... at all. No matter how much you pay. It uses parts from i believe the whipple supercharger and is not authorized to be shipped internationally by whipple from it's origin.

  20. Bad ground. Reground the engine block and chassis ground and inspect the ground wire itself, not just the connections.
  21. just for the sake of replies to his inquiry: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread...threadid=135487 (matt mcnally., where are you?) :)
