  1. just ready the sticky at the top of the forum.
  2. The needles are not what you CAN see, they are what you CANNOT see. needles are the gut's, you are looking at a plastic cover. You won't be doing that one yourself.
  3. This is a real sticky problem. Something on that board is cutting the needles on and off. Each needle has an independent power source, BUT they are all powered from the same power source further up the line. Once the prospect of the needles that were originally bad have been replaced, it's possible to start troubleshooting the board now. Something like that will definately need an O'scope to read the boards outputs and monitor it's behavior patterns. From my experience the cost of having techs troubleshoot the board that is on again and off again far outweights buying a used cluster and swapping the new needles over. (but don't forget the resistors on the new needles sitting on the old motherboard or they'll get too much juice on the new cluster). I have seen this happen once before, but I am unsure that someone ever found the fix. It's pretty rare. EDIT: I meant to say try to borrow a dimmer switch from a salvage car and see if that works.
  4. Nope. Lexus wiring isn't like German wiring (thank god). Something in the fuel system was leaking (an injector, etc...) something like that.
  5. If they come on THEN turn off (the backlight) smack it 'till your hands bleed and it won't make a difference. That method is only for filament that doesn't come on at all. A member of CL had the same problem and it was after a radio installation. Have you changed anything that would make it do that? This is different from just old bulbs, this is a technical issue when the backlight fails all at once.
  6. I don't now why they have stickies in this forum, noone reads them. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=8008#
  7. Although it COULD be the speed sensor, it also could be the motor of the speedo itself. Neither fail in great numbers so start by replacing the speed sensor.
  8. Most of the time it is the switch, however i have seen the wire age inside the gromet from where the door is repeatedly opened and closed.
  9. #1- http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=159458 That's what the link says, 8 working days. #2- Lextech doesn't keep spare boxes laying around to repack anything in. It leaves the way it comes. Literally. :) Lextech ALWAYS insures packages. These things aren't cheap to replace. Shipping knocked your needle off, you plugged it back in. No problem. Every seen what the carriers do to packages to get them from truck to truck?
  10. wow double the price. not looking like a smart deal.
  11. If it is the backlight, you can simply replace the bulbs. If it is the needles, you will need a custom rebuild. To replace your backlight, click the 4th link here: http://lextech.org/forum/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=67 They are #24 from any auto parts store. However Sylvania is the only brand that fit's "perfectly".
  12. Sorry, but every bit of that is wrong. Most especially the airbag part. ← Well, I have the 92 Lexus Factory Manual in my hand you want to argue that..? ← LOL. Yes i do. :D I would know.
  13. There is a place you can send them to..to get a Permanent Repair..go to DASHUSA.com..they will replace the PC and repair the needles..costs 350.00..then you will never have to worry about them again. I had them done on my car and they are fantastic!!! ← Dash USA has their own problems right now. Like a pending copyright lawsuit from Lextech. $350? rip off.
  14. Sorry, but every bit of that is wrong. Most especially the airbag part.
  15. Dash USA is currently being named in a copyright infringement lawsuit against a utility patent LLS holds for the needle design which was aquired directly from Lexus by strict permissions on the design of single fire and multiple fire alternative led sources in the Lexus needles. So your best bet would be to go with Stevie's suggestion :) Utility patents are issued by original patent holders to individuals that significantly modify an original design enough to justify a separate, but not detached completely from, patent. A "branch" of an original if you will. There are only two people authorized to build these, one is lexus (via nippendenso)... guess who the other is ;) The biggest impact this will have is that they (dash usa) will not be allowed to honor warranties, since they cannot build for resale. Lextech will still keep it's usual lifetime warranty.
  16. I have, and you know where to find it :) Check the Sc forum when you get there. ;) "exterior lighting"
  17. You were told multiple times to grab the cigg plug wires and use them. Polarity does not matter, so just use each of the two wires. You need nothing, no voltmeter, no special tools. You should have had it done in 5 minutes. :) ES models are only done by request, So no schematics are on file to grab the voltage from inside the unit. Other models are already on file and do not need external wiring. This will change when someone decides to take a voltage reading on the harness and post which two pins (wires) are switched ignition and ground. Until then, not a single person has ever had a problem doing it.
  18. Both are equally fast when falling through mid air.
  19. Sorry brother, you are wrong. LLS does nothing of the sort, but i have noticed you making special attention to anything related to us and your "$2" fixes in every post about illumination lately. . good info is good info, incorrect info is bad info.
  20. Matt Mcnally I sent you a PM however it does not show in my sent items folder. I cannot track it either, so i have no way of knowing if it went or not.
  21. correct.... and you better be prepared to desolder the entire LCD also because bending the pins causes stress cracks in the glass and will make the screen go black MUCH sooner. http://lextech.org/gallery/displayimage.php?album=2&pos=52 there's what it looks like inside. another shot: http://lextech.org/gallery/displayimage.php?album=2&pos=51
  22. #1 - Lextech gives a lifetime warranty. They won't burn out. #2 - there is no such thing as a first gen LED. The reason why Lexus needles fail is here: http://lextech.org/forum/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=111
  23. going to a newer ride is a plus. There is already an SC400 turbo on CL, so the kit is developed and ready for the most part. I'd rather have an SC400T, but a newer ride is an attractive offer.
  24. AWJ, great link! :) I imagine in Texas that would be a big problem. The register cracks from heating and cooling. When the car is started @ 120 degree's interior temp, and the vents cool to 50 degree's within seconds it'll crack them every time. A lto of people have fiberglassed them from behind, some have used metal mesh back there and epoxy. Whatever you do, it'll need to be reinforced or it'll do it again soon.
  25. here! :D pm'd you a while back - never heard anything back from you ← Yes we spoke when this post was made :) (Sep 29th). Holidays are over and i will contact you this week :)
