  1. Colin, You folks in the UK change your oil only every 16,000 kms or 10,000 miles? Canadian Lexus manuals say every 8,000 kms or 5,000 miles
  2. That's like saying "I have to wonder if Toyota/Lexus doesn't trust their 60k mile platinum spark plug, then why are they shooting for a longer life spark plug (iridium)?" or "I have to wonder if Toyota/Lexus doesn't trust their 60k mile timing belt, then why are they shooting for a longer life 90K belt?" or "I have to wonder if Toyota/Lexus doesn't trust their 60k mile Type T-IV transmission fluid, then why are they shooting for a longer life fluid (the World Standard fluid used in the 2004 on up LS430)? ← actually monarch/saber.......I was quoting the service manager of my Lexus dealership from when I had my 30k mile service done. And if you look at the post, that was almost a year ago. In all actuallity, it is not the fluid itself that he didn't trust, it was the time/mileage interval of 60 months/5 years. If you would like his phone number I could give it to you so you could take it up with him. so is the long life coolant going to be the bee in your bonet this year just as Toyota genuine oil and filters were the for the past two? steviej ← Lol steviej! ;) :whistles: When I need to do my next engine coolant flush, I will double check with a few Lexus dealers (and Lexus Canada head office as well) to confirm or not if the 'pink' super long life coolant is OK for my ES (and current generation that used the red 'long life' stuff). B)
  3. Not sure if the ES has it or not (don't want to find out the hardway!), but the Buick Century has a feature that prevents any damage from happening (that nice loud grinding sound) when you accidently start the car again while it's running. Very useful feature. :D B)
  4. :chairshot: :P
  5. The llumar product lasts longer & is more clear than the 3M stuff. 3M has kind of a glue residue thatlooks like there is paint damage or fade on the parts of the car that are covered. :whistles:
  6. Am I the only one that can't see the pic(s)? lol Maybe it's my PC.
  7. I've done that too amf......so far never a problem lol ;)
  8. Agreed......it shouldn't be a problem :)
  9. My God, it's over 125,000 now! :cries: I've never heard or seen anything so terrible in my life. :(
  10. Well said Army! :D Happy New Year to all LOC & CL members!! B)
  11. Steering wheel audio controls would have been nice too :whistles: My Maxima had it & so does my Dad's Century......not my ES.
  12. Actually there is 3 things I wish my ES had (that my Dad's Buick Century does)....1 would be a warning chime if one leaves there headlights on.....it dosen't have one! I've checked with several other ES owners & they confirm that as well) Every car I've owned before that did! :chairshot: kind of peeves me off considering the type of car a Lexus is :whistles: 2 would be an engine block heater as standard equipment (every GM, Ford & Chrysler has one in Canada at least) & 3 a tire pressure monitor system......but I'm fussy about checking the pressure frequently so it's no biggie. :D B)
  13. Nice looking car imo........I'm looking forward to all the technical specifications when the car arrives on Toyota dealer lot's! B) I'll take the 'Touring' model myself. :D http://www.automobilemag.com/auto_shows/na..._toyota_avalon/
  14. Does the law in your state mention anything specific about such an issue? Perhaps you can call the authorities & use the excuse that these are 'wild' animals, not domestic & kids live & play in the area & could be a potential safety concern to all parties involved! Not to mention the possible spread of rabies & such.....perhaps any 'by-laws' on the books can do something (I'm personally an animal lover so I wouldn't want to see these critters destroyed, it's not right what this person is doing). Get a dog or a cat for god sakes!! The 'wild' creatures know how to survive in the world. :chairshot: Let me guess, this person lives alone & her home looks like it needs to be taken out with a wrecking ball right? B)
  15. Agreed! I'm not a huge fan of run flat's either........long way to go before the technology meets excellent traction in all weather conditions (Bridgestone can't even get that right on a conventional 'all season', never mind a RF ). Go with dh's suggestion & I'd get a top quality regular high performance 'all season' with AAA any day. B) What is the exact tire size you need for your car?
  16. I think that price is astronomical for what you want. Plus there is a much better (& longer lasting) product offered from LLumar. Check it out at: www.llumar.com Good Luck! B)
  17. wendell, VERY touchy subject on these forums that always opens up a can or worms. I personally use Mobil 1 5W 30 synthetic & will continue to use it along with a top quality oil filter (I use K & N or Mobil 1 filters). Instead of getting into yet another debate about the subject.....do a search on any of the forums (especially specific models of Lexus & in the maintenance forum). You will get a 'wealth' of information & many opinions on the subject. B) I hope this isn't going to be a long topic on this thread.
  18. Welcome Johnny! :D
  19. My dad has (although he will be getting rid of the car next week) brand new Goodyear Comfortreads on his 90 Park Avenue (about 6,000 miles on them) & loves the way the tire performs especially in snow & heavy rain. Since the Buick is much more 'floaty' than any Lexus, he has not noticed any of the problems you have mentioned monarch. Dosen't mean much since he just purhased a 2002 Buick Century Limited & pick's it up next week......but the good news is, he can get either te Comfortreads OR the Tripletreads (only the comfortreads were available on the Park Ave)......so I think I'm going to try to 'steer' (no pun intended :whistles: ) towards the higher rated Tripletreads. B)
  20. I wonder how much a new programed key would be?
  21. Agreed & well said sk! B)
  22. I'm not 100% sure if HID's were an option on the 97 & 98 ES ......I know 99 & up were in the U.S. (Canadian ES vehicles came standard with them). B)
  23. The Century actually has a tire pressure monitoring system (at least the ES up to 2001 never even offered it as an option), Oil life warning system (according to the owners manual, you can go over a year depending on the type of driving you do before changing your oil & filter), correct Blake, dual zone electronic climate control (don't get that feature personally as your still in the same passenger compartment close to everyone!), and an engine block heater all standard! :D (I do wish my ES had that feature being in Canada) It's a fairly plain looking car.......but excellent value on the used car market for the price.......goes about it's daily business without comanding much attention which the many of the owners love, & like Rodney Dangerfield, get no respect lol. B) If I find out any additional features, I will let everyone know. ;)
  24. Thanks amf......I should have remembered that one :whistles: .....I drove a 1991 Buick Riviera & was a member of the Riviera Owners Assoc & that was one of their links. Brain cramp here lol. :chairshot: B)
  25. Hey everyone, My Dad finally got rid of his vehicle of 14 years.....a 1990 Buick Park Avenue with 412,000 miles on her (original engine & tranny btw), and decided to purchase a cream puff of a 2002 Buick Century 'Limited' with 45,000 miles (I tried to get him over to Toyota or Lexus, but money is a bit tight for him & they wanted & frankly needed something newer with warranty, all service records & a 1 owner for MUCH less than the same year Japanese mid-size car....& hey they have always been GM folks so a leopard never changes their spot's I guess lol :whistles: ). Nice car for him & my Mom.........has a very good reliability record & it's built in Canada which my parents like so it should serve them well even it's a "plain jane" type of vehicle with everything except leather (even has a few features my 01 ES 300 dosen't have actually! ). :D All I can say is, it's about time! :D So my question to everyone who can help is......Is there a North American Buick Century Club(s) that anyone can point me too? Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks! B)
