  1. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
  2. Ive asked this question before in a variety of forums as it is on my "to do" list. Apparently the 94-96 supra torsen rearend for auto trans will have a 3.76 gear, and will be the optimal and only logical choice for a lexus xx400 designation car. The dealer has it for around $1600 housing and all complete bolt on replacement. You speedo will stay accurate as the ABS sensors are used to calculate speed. Available online from Carson (the dealership that offers its own line of L-tuned parts on l-tunedparts.com) at the toyota site here: http://www.newtoyotaparts.com/product/?id=1754
  3. looks beautiful, except for no spoiler. Always negotiate price.
  4. Looks good, check the typical problem items, leaky p/s pump, cracked leather, cant remember the others off hand, check the pinned post in this forum for those items. I thought the cobras had 32v dual over head cam design similar to lexus
  5. If you can't change the battery yourself, then your not qualified to operate a motor vehicle
  6. I have a '95 SC400, and i noticed that on the drivers side grill (by the foglight) inside there is some type of tube and fin cooling device like a small radiator type unit. Does anybody know what this is? Is it a trans cooler of some sort? The car is all stock no prior mods to me owning it. I want to get a Dragon Torque Converter and considering a trans cooler. If this is a trans cooler from the factory, is it sufficient to cool the Dragon? Muchas Gracias
  7. 5spds are really hard to find, if you can get your hands on one, buy it, no matter what condition its in. Unless you just want a car you can drive with putting as little work into it as possible but still have decent power, then go 400. You can get a Dragon Torque converter to get more power from that V8 to the wheels for under $1000 with a transcooler kit ( http://www.tmengineering.net/performance/t...make/lexus.html ). Like i said, the 5speed is hard to find, if you want a V8 you can mate a 1uzfe or 2uzfe to a supra 6 speed, with a little work, the new IS350 has a 3.5L 6cyl with 300HP stock and a 6spd, that is another possible monster swap for the future. With the 5spd there are alot of possiblities that are alot easier to do when starting with a manual trans car.
  8. I live in chicago, we get some crazy winters, and i have no compliants. My 95 SC doesnt have Traction Control either. But tires do make all the differance in the world. If you have a decent winter season i would recomment getting 2 sets of wheels and tires, one for winter, the other for the rest of the year, get good winter tires. Front wheel drive cars suck in the snow. Front wheel drive cars suck in the snow. Repeat, front wheel drive cars suck in the snow. They have slight advantage from a dead stop to accelerate in a straight line because they are front heavy, thats it. Any other maneuvers, ie turning, stopping etc. will be better with rear drive. Front wheel drive relies on the front wheels for too much, steering, stopping, accelerating. Most dangerously is how front wheel cars are front heavy. They dangerously understeer, due to all the weight being in the front, its like a arrow, no matter which way you try to direct it, it will have a tendancy to stay straight. Rear drive cars are MUCH safer than front drive (which have severly limited capabilites), this is why BMW, Mercedes Benz make all their cars with rear or all wheel drive only configurations. Dont let the propaganda fool you, manufacturers use front wheel drive because it cheap, period. Rear drive is superior in every aspect, lower cost of repair, better reliablity, better performance. That being said, the MOST important part of the equation is the Driver. Driving rear drive is a different animal than front drive. You need to learn the characteristics of rear drive especially in poor traction conditions. Most people have very little experience driving rear drive, once you learn those characteristics of rear drive, you (as i do) will take a rear drive car anyday over a front drive in ANY road or weather conditions. Anyone who says otherwise does not have enough experience or knowledge in this respect. Bottom line, get good winter tires, learn how do drive rear drive (practice doing donuts in the snow in a parking lot somewhere) and there will not be a problem, your eyes will be open to the truth and you will thank me for it. Race car drivers drive 150MPH+ in the rain through though curves and everything else, with smart driving, what we do on a daily basis is no problem. On a sidenote, ABS sucks in the snow.
  9. HELP! Still getting blown away by this blower motor!
  10. hows a ford contour with 384,990 miles for hard evidence? i can show you the junkyard where the it is located :) (wreck). car still drove like it did when new. not a lexus, butyou said he stated gasoline engines in general, so... ← LOL, ES250
  11. could be the fan speed control computer ← Can you tell me more about this fan speed control computer? I never heard of it, thanks!
  12. I bought my 95 SC400 with 85K a year ago for $10,000, Lexus does not have a "Sport" designation, they are all sporty by nature, dont expect the power of the Mark VIII, but rather alot of power with incredible reliability, I just passed 100K with no major problems, and i drive hard.
  13. I have a 95 SC400 It is pretty much all stock. No major problems. But there is one thing that is bugging the heck out of me and no one seems to know exactly what the problem is. It involves the climate control. The Heater Fan is always on full speed, even when you lower it the display will show 1, 2, 3 etc. but the blower will still go at full speed (Which is pretty loud and not necessary under normal weather conditions). Once in awhile the blower will kick down to a lower speed for a few seconds, but will then go back to full blast! Does anyone know what the heck is going on here? Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks.
  14. Please somebody help me! LOL, i have a problem with my climate control. The blower fan speed always operates at high speed, no matter what the display on the climate control is set at. Once and awihile the fan will go down to the proper speed, but only for a short time. If anyone has heard of this or has any ideas, please contact me. email: bigpoppapumpjml@hotmail.com
  15. For some god forsaken reason alot of people put these rims on the SCs from the early 90s, the 10 Spoke Factory 400 wheels were bad !Removed!, actucally, if anyone is selling im buying, remember, thats the factory 10 spoke sc400 wheels, email me pm me, or better yet call me! 630.363.2713
  16. Alright, cool, now how can i check if mine is leaking and can i check the filter screens?
  17. Is it bad to put in Power Steering Fluid or just plain better to use DEX III
  18. Ok, mine is a 95 SC400, what am i supposed to put in for power steering fluid, my manual says DEX II Tranny Fluid, i goto the auto parts store and all i found was DEX III, is that essentially the same and do i have to use it, or is it good to use Power Steering Fluid with a conditioner or something like that?
  19. Well it sounds a little on the high side for a '96 with 96K. I can kind of relate, as I just bought a '95 SC from an out of state dealer, the car was found on the internet. Its a beautiful 95 with 86K, red, nak, not a scratch on it, the drivers seat has slight wear in the usual place, but the rest of the interior is well above average. I was able to pick up the car personally as it was only about a 2 hour drive , Even less on the way back :) , so i was able to drive it before i signed the papers. But I picked it up for $10k and that was from a dealer in WI. Im quite experinced in buying cars and I only look at the black book, for most cars I would only pay rough - average. The SC commands a bit more $$$ than your typical car but I wouldnt go a penny above Clean in the Black Book. The biggest mistake is overclassification, lots of people do it, dealers do too, and they often have to bite the bullet when they do. As far as your car goes, it doesnt seem to have too much wrong with it, but you always want to factor that into the price for the car.
  20. ok, hope im following the rules for this forum. I have a '95 SC400 and I have several minor problems, first ill ask about the climate control The Climate Control will not run the fan speed properly, even when i choose to use manual control for the fan speed it will always blow out at full speed, sometimes the fan will slow down to the selected speed but then 20-30 seconds later it will go full blast again. The whole time the display shows the selected speed, but the fan spins at full speed. ANY ideas would be appreciated thanks
