Looking For Information On Building A 'kit' Car
smooth1 replied to Lexusfreak's topic in General Chat
Actaully it's better to build an Aston Martin Vanquish from a Mustang. :) It's already been done....Ford Mustang Aston Martin Vanquish That car is amazing though. He went all out. So I would just contact him and find out the details from there. He's at Exclusive Motors.com I'm not sure if they have the kit ready for sale yet or not. -

It would definately fall under the warrentee. And it's actually pretty easy to change them out. -
2009 Is 350 Vs. 2009 Acura Tl Sh Awd
smooth1 replied to smooth1's topic in 07 - 13 Lexus IS250 / IS350 / IS-F
You know it..... ;) -
The standard TL will be front-wheel drive and is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 that makes 280 hp and 254 pound-feet of torque, an increase of 22 hp and 21 lb-ft over the previous 3.2-liter V6. The new TL SH-AWD ("Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive") replaces the previous TL Type-S and is powered by a 3.7-liter V6 that produces 305 hp and 275 lbs-ft, an increase of 19 hp and 19 lb-ft over the 3.5-liter V6 of the Type-S. A five-speed automatic transmission is standard equipment for both engines and features shift paddles on the steering wheel. TL SH AWD base price : $38,575 TL SH AWD w/ Tech Pkg : $42,235 The 2009 Lexus IS line offers three models: The rear-wheel-drive Lexus IS 350, the rear-drive Lexus IS 250 and an all-wheel drive Lexus IS 250. The IS 250's 2.5-liter V6 engine delivers 204 horsepower at 6,400 RPM and 185 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,800 rpm. The Lexus IS 350's 3.5-liter V6 delivers 306 horsepower at 6,400 RPM along with 277 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,800 rpm and can accelerate the car from zero-to-60 mph in just 5.3 seconds. Both engines use aluminum cylinder blocks and heads and employ dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i), which controls timing on both the intake and exhaust camshafts.A direct-type fuel-injection system provides a cooling effect in the cylinders, enabling the high compression needed to extract maximum energy from the fuel. Aside from its larger displacement, the 3.5-liter V6 differs chiefly in that it augments the direct fuel injection with port fuel injectors. In light- and medium-load conditions, these additional injectors help produce a precise burn, increasing power and efficiency. A dual exhaust system reduces backpressure at higher engine speeds. All 2009 Lexus IS models meet the Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle II 2009 IS 350 base price: $36,605 2009 IS 250 AWD base price price: $37,650 I put the IS 250 AWD and the IS 350 up because it was difficult to do a direct comparison. AWD is very nice to have in regions where weather can play a major role in the buying decision. But the IS 350 has the lure of refined speed. Which is also a huge draw.

No, going from 17'' rims to 18'' rims won't change anything. But what are you looking to do with the car? Drag racing set ups and drifting setups are completely different from each other. In drag racing you want as much grip as possible and offsets to keep the car stable, and in drifting you want alot less grip and offset rims to promote oversteer. Not to mention the suspensions setting would be completely different as well. As for lowering the car, that is up to you. Lowering does help lower the center of gravity of the car and help limit some of the body roll, but if your talking about performance, then your talking about a coilover suspension system which would be fully adjustable in which you can tune the suspension to your driving style.

Welcome to the LOC. Is it a bubbling gurgling sound? or like when the old bluegrass bands would use a jug as a musical instrument? ;)

Ouch! For those that watch that and don't realize , they make you sign a waiver when you take your car down the strip. You insurance company doesn't cover this stuff!! That wreck is completely out of pocket! And that my friends, looked like a totalled vette!

Does it do it with the ac and fans off?

Welcome to the LOC. :)

The issues your going to run into are : The auto transmission is much stronger than the manual transmission. So if your going turbo, auto will hold up to 400 hp at the wheels, but you will have to do a valvebody upgrade, and boost the line pressure. up the clutch packs and spraggs and maybe heat treat the planetaries. The manual will only hold up to about 300 hp at the wheels, but you'll still need to do a clutch upgrade just to get to that number. After that your looking to have to swap the manual to the R154 which will hold up to around 600 rwhp. with a full clutch upgrade also. If your going over 600 hp, then your looking at the V160 or V161 supra transmission, and those with a clutch can hold well over a 1000 hp, but your also talking $5-6K for that transmission and clutch. If your going to turbo the stock motor, (2JZGE), with stock internals, then keep the auto, put either a Turbonetics kit, Mazzuri, or an SRT turbo kit on it, with front mount intercooler, racing head gasket and swap to a 3'' turbo exhaust system, and tune it for 400 rwhp. And just be happy there. You pretty much at the max the motor and drivetrain can handle. If you go over that, you looking at having to do a forged piston swap, or doing a 2JZGTE motor swap. Which is the Supra motor. along with the drivetrain and ECU swaps. It's alot of work. If you have some time on your hands, you might want to go thru this: Modifying the IS 300: Chronicles of a Dream Ride

I think you should be fine. I would replace it with new fluid just to make sure you didn't get any contaminants in the fluid, like sand particles and so on. The biggest issue here is making sure you put the same amount of fluid back in, and not over or underfilling it. I would also make sure you do use Toyota Type4 ATF. Other than that it's not really a big deal, and you should be fine. So long as the fluid is still red, doesn't smell burned, then your good to go.

LOL!! I doubt it seeing as how the op put this up over 4 years ago.

I just read about the 2 water bucket idea also. Hmmm, that is a good idea. I have the bucket with the grate thing, but the 2 bucket idea sounds even better.

So the microfiber washer I have listed is the better choice?

I've been looking for a new car wash brush. All the ones I see are mostly crap. The one I use now has bristles around the sides and the face so when you get to the edges like bumpers and side view mirrors you don't mark it up and bang it on your car. I have really liked that feature. I also really like the longer pole style handles. But I never see any quality brush heads that allow you to put the handle on, and have enouph protection around the edges of the head to not be banging your car up with it. I was looking at this microfiber one: microfiber car washer but there has to be a better one out there. Anyone go any ideas? I would like a boars hair one, but again, I haven't really found one that I like.

I'm having a very touph time with this. My wife and I discuss this over dinner almost every evening. It just seems for every pro there is an equal con to negate it in both Obama and McCain. I'm really hoping the debates will shed some light on some of the issues and how they plan on going about handling it. On a personal side note, I really feel like the entire Senate and Cheifs of Staff and both the Democratic and Republican parties have seriously let down the american people. I'm not just talking about the financial disaster we are facing right now, but the entire bogged down, do nothing, finger pointing fat pigs that have been allowed to overrun the system for years now. Everyone of them should be made to stand on a podium and explain themselves and apologize. This huge economic cess pool, the international strains, and national moral, and no one to blame. No one to step up and ever take responsibility. And the tax payer has another bill to pick up so they can keep thier cushy jobs and our unemployement rate goes up, gas prices go up, food prices goes up. Enouph. I say it's time for a "clean up" crew to go thru and clean house. We need some people up there to just do the right thing for a change. Even if it's not popular. I don't know a single politian that is in touch with the american people. Not any of them. They should make a capped salery or around 60K a year. Let them figure out how to get the kids to day care and make it to the office by 8 like the rest of us. they should all be made to drive thier own cars. and pay for the same gas they make us pay for. How can any of them understand any of that with out facing day after day after day with nothing but even bigger problems on the horizon? I'm almost to the point that they shoud do away with Democratic and Republican parties both. All it has done is devide the houses. All we ever get is blaming the other party for how it is, and when the Democrats are running things, the Replicans work against them to prove thier point. And vice versa. Isn't there enouph forces at work against us with out us doing it to ourselves? To be honest, I don't think it will really matter if Obama or McCain make it into office. Obama is going in there and going to get played like a Tama drum set at a Rush concert. And rich boy McCain is going to need a math tutor and translator by his side at all times. The president these days is just a front person. Change ans all the campaign promises are only words they use to get back into power, because it will still be the Democrats against the Republicans fighting like 2 6 year olds in a playground over a stick of bubble gum. Even though the bell has rung, and all the kids are back in the classroom. I think we should make Google our senate, Starbucks our House, and elect Howard Goldstien to run it all. :)

Just get a full cam now, and drop in the timing so you get that full "plop, plop...plop,plop" at idle now...lol!!! Sounds great man. I think you should drop the suspension some now to. Just an inch....
-
I'll start: Enkie's ZR1 18x8's 40 mm offsets Michlein Pilot Sport PS2 Tien CS coilovers with 1.5 (ish) inch drop all the way around No rubbing or clearance issues.
-
Post a few pics of your set up with : Mfgr: Rims: Size: Offset: Tire Mfgr: Tire Size: suspension set up and amount of drop: Only wheel setups and suspension setups on this cool? :) Now go get a pic and post it here!

I thought the suspension adjustment was only on the X package though. I think they are just using a version of the F sport Bilstien unit as opposed to the one they were using before. Yeah, the sterring seems to be getting tweeked again. I haven't driven one yet to tell if there is a difference in feel or not yet.
