  1. Thats sounds great until it comes inspection time......unless you are in state which does not require cats.....
  2. David doesnt know his own inventory.....looks like your bumper needs to be repainted.....mine were like that & I had them repainted......front & rear.... Jeff
  3. For inspection of ISC Valve see page FI-60 # 1 & #2 in the attached file....hope this helps.... Jeff isc_valve.pdf
  4. I have the same problem with my 1992 LS400...cant figure it out yet what keeps blowing the fuse....short somewhere I guess.
  5. Is it noisy while turning as well ????? Definitely air in the power steering system.....Try bleeding....
  6. Be careful when prying off.....I broke mine trying to get it off.....very fragile if old & brittle from sun hitting it for 16 years....
  7. TSB for a road problem......how would a TSB define that....interesting.....
  8. Your can make your own.....just trace & cut....
  9. Have your current Alternator rebuilt.....or exchanged it out for one that is already rebuilt at auto electric shop....I just did that here in San Diego with my 1992 LS400....$150 for rebuilt off the shelf......gave him mine....& he gave me one already rebuilt sitting on his shelf.... Jeff
  10. I would definitely take it back to the dealer & make them be responsible for restoring to the operating condition it was in prior to the starter repair......hold them responsible....
  11. I have this problem periodically from time to time.....it seems like the engine is starving for fuel or air...you step on the gas pedal & no power....just sputters along like it wants to die out, but doesn't...it like sputters with a rough idle..... Seems to happen when I have run the air conditioner & engine is very warm.....Dont get me wrong...I am not saying it is related to the A/C...... I am able to get home most of the time......car was designed with a limp mode believe it or not.... Car sits overnight & runs fine the next day........this re-occuring problem may not happen for another three months or so but has come back enough to *BLEEP* me off...... I have not figured it out yet myself.... I know my plugs, wires, cap & rotor are good.... As people suggest, it could fuel filter or fuel pump related......I never have check the gas pressure when this has happened nor have I changed the fuel filter either.... Problem I have just learned to live with....242K miles on my car.....I am not dumping money for a new fuel pump.....filter would be cheap..... All I can say is that it could be dangerous if it sputters along at an inapporpriate time.......railroad crossing, at lights, stop signs,,etc.... Be careful..... Sorry, I have no definite answer for you....but I am in the same boat with you......you are not the only one with this problem....
  12. Yes.....remove radiator shroud....remove fan & fan clutch......relieve tension on belt & remove drive belt.....follow the procedure on replacing the timing belt up to a certain point.... You can find the info on that here in the forum...
  13. save yourself another $ 100 & buy off e-bay from lex-toy-parts.....do a search on "Lexus LS400 fan bracket" ...he is lextreme that you so often hear about....... his fan brackets are original leftovers from some importer.....this is the original factory fan brackets that were installed OEM... I just bought one.....his brackets contain the Japan "Koyo RR6 bearing" in them..... They are not Chinese knock-offs that others are selling on e-bay..... Jeff
  14. no special tools necessary.....follow procedure for removal of timing belt.....but dont go as far....no need to remove crankshaft pulley or no need to loosen alternator..... remember to loosen 2 bolts on the A/C unit ( both are on side of A/C unit - one accessible from up top & the other from underneath the car ) which bolt in the si de of the bracket..... Straight forward job.....take your time..... Jeff
  15. Just received Internet fan bracket off Internet from lex-toy-parts.... Just like he said.....his brackets are overstock items from an importer...... these are Original Lexus Factory OEM fan brackets for only #$99.... I can tell by the bearing that is in these Brackets.......The orignal bearing was a "Koyo RR6" bearing & has brackets contain these..... Put new bracket on today & car is running tops again......
  16. My '92 LS400 has 242K on it..... Southern California weather helps to keep it going I believe..... No snow & not much rain to rust things up....
  17. Did you do the the timing belt & water pump change yourself....Are you sure the timing is correct.... Incomplete fuel conbustion dumping into the exhaust & into the cats will cause them to get red hot.....Very dangerous...... Be careful.....check your timing.....as to your overheating....are you sure you have the correct tension on your timing belt.....may not be enough tension on the water pump to create good circulation....thus overheating on you.....check your thermostat as well..... Possible that radiator is clogged up somewhere.... Good luck.....
  18. Colorknight, Thats what is forum is all about......kepping $$$'s in your pocket & not putting them in the dealer's hand.... Alot of great people here with solid advice...... Best thing you can do........is buy a set a Factory Service Repair Manuals for your year LS400.... They will pay for themselves the first time you use them to fix your car..... Jeff
  19. Well, that fan bracket from the junkyard I bought is just that....junk. What I thought was a good bracket by turning the plate, the bearing seemed good to me..... Well, I re-assembled everything, & drove it for a day....everything seemed fine until day two... Started the car & it made a similiar noise like I had heard before....I thought "Oh *BLEEP*"....Popped the hood, I examined the turning of the fan bracket with the motor running.... I definitely was not turning on a true plane...... Well, I have now purchased from the Internet from lex-toy-parts for $ 99 plus $ 20 shipping.... If you count the one from the junkyard, I have now paid a total of $ 227 ( $119 + $ 108 ). Almost the total that the dealer charges..... Oh well, live & learn......plus I get to spend another day tearing down & reassembling once I get my new part... I love doing the same job twice.....yeah right......well, it just won't take me as long this time.....familiar with procedure now..... Jeff
  20. Best way to clean the throttle body is to completely take it off & hot dip it.....
  21. Absolutely agree with you on parts..... You can not get any better than true toyota/lexus parts....but I am all for shopping on the internet to find these parts & if not available......then it is off to the junkyard for a perusal..... Got the car back together tonight & she started right off & very quiet.......I however busted the little black plastic tip on one of the vacumn lines that attached to the air chamber plastic body...... Nothing that super glue cant cure.... Job done & end of story......thanks for everyone's discussion..... great forum here......is people like us that keep money in our pockets & not the dealer's.............
  22. Omar, I you are talking about bracket from Factory Lexus parts from the Internet, than I agree, it probably is a higher quality bracket, but still not as good as original Lexus equipment...... i will take the gamble form the junkyard vs. FLP parts from the internet....key is know who you are dealing with when shopping at the junkyard.....one can tell from the feel once you spin the bearing on the bracket....
  23. Actually, I settled for one out of a junkyard......guy at junkyard indicated the ones off internet (made in China with inferior bearings are still not as good as original Lexus fan brackets....... Do you think he was pushing his used part ?? Go figure..... Well, I still paid $ 100 for used fan bracket with low mileage...... Now, I have the task of reassembly.......all in a day's work...... Jeff
  24. You will get much satisfaction from doing this repair yourself rather than taking it to a dealer.....trust me on that
  25. Machine shop was unsuccessful at pressing off shaft....Applied 5 tons of force to try and press out shaft with bearings. Also, tried pressing off plate that is attached to the fan bracket first but no luck.....Must be some kind of retaining ring underneath plate. These fan brackets are made not to be rebuilt.....I guess Has anyone ever been successful at rebuilding one of these brackets by pressing out old bearing & shaft & inserting new bearing with shaft.. Someone at a bearing distributor mention that the bearing was a proprietary bearing exclusive for Lexus.... I have a hard time believing that......There are hundreds of thousands of different bearings made...... Long story short, I guess I will settle for buying one off the internet..... I will just trying to get some self satisfaction from tring to repair old bracket if possible....but rebuilding it does not seem possible.
