  1. Bit the bullet and splurged for a hardcopy 7 volume set Factory Service manuals. If anyone is interested here is an index of main chapters within each Volume. So if you want to order just a certain volume, then you know what is contained here within. Just thought I would share the info if not already out there somewhere. Factory Service manuals are worth their weight in gold.....first time one uses them, they pretty much pay for themselves. I am one who likes to work on my own cars. Self satisfaction knowing that the job is done right and no shortcuts taken. Even the best dealerships ( stealerships ) will try to gut you if they can....besides their labor rates and parts prices are exorbitant Lexus.pdf
  2. Paul, Thanks for the update.....I was just making a general observation as to the frequency of use on this particular board.........07 - 13 Lexus LS460 / LS460L / LS600h.....it seems the first gen LS board forum...... 90 - 00 Lexus LS400....... gets a lot of action as it tends to be a younger audience......more of those cars on the road & the willingness I guess most of the guys that own these 460's.....tend to take their cars to the shop for repairs........whereas I am own for fixing it myself with a good set of factory shop manuals....in hardback books or CD-ROM or online service subscription....... Whatever it takes verses going to the dealership..... Thanks for your suggestions above.....much appreciated....
  3. White Pearl with Grey Interior...300k miles on it....all parts intact PM if interested in any part..... Will accept paypal.... Thanks,
  4. The silver cover covering the main top part of engine under hood.....how does it come off ?? I have popped up the 2 back tabs off their posts....are there two others near the center of that cover ??? I don't want to force it & break the cover...... Your snappy answer to my stupid question is most appreciated...... Thanks in advance.
  5. 1992 Lexus LS400 Repair Manuals for Sale - Vol 1 & Vol 2 for Sale...... Let me know if interested.....
  6. Does anyone know of a good website to purchase the Factory Service Manuals ? The ones used by the Lexus Dealership technicians..... Thanks in advance..... Does anyone have experience with these manuals ??? http://cardnetsales.ecrater.com/p/16046364/2006-2007-2008-2009-2010-2011-2012-lexus-ls460-ls-460-service-workshop
  7. Hey...kaka007 ....don;t hijack the thread....start new topic.......
  8. Have your alternator check & rebuilt if necessary. That was the culprit on my 1992 LS400 when I had the exact same problem.....
  9. I have had this same problem ongoing for the last 3 or 4 years. I guess I need to bite the bullet & replaced the fuel pump to see if that will fix the problem...internal fuel...ouch.....
  10. turbo, I removed my alternator this weekend & took it back to the auto electric shop to have it re-tested. They bench tested the alternator. The rotor was bad. At higher RPM's, the windings in the rotor would open up. They replaced the rotor & I will re-assemble this weekend.. Now that the alternator is out of the car, I can clearly see underneath the power steering pump. There are no leaks or drips coming from the p/s pump. That's good. Hope this helps your situation. 5ofakind
  11. I am going to be *BLEEP*ed off if I find out that the culprit is the alternator also. I just had it rebuilt about a month ago by a reputable shop....
  12. turbo74pinto, Any update on your problem ? Mine are still flickering. I will check this weekend for P/S pump leak that may be just starting. I would hate to ruin a rebuilt alternator I just installed about a month ago. 5ofakind
  13. Any auto electric shop that doesnt want to rebuild an alternator is definitely lame....must not need the business I guess...that is lame.... My shop charged $130 to rebuild, a little pricey but I still have my Toyota OEM alternator...not some Autozone piece of junk..... RDM, 80-90 is a great proce for the rebuild....
  14. RDM, Where did you get your remanufactured unit at ? What brand ??? Just curious....
  15. Harness is in trunk at the left hinge....check there
  16. Here is the removal, rebuilding, & installation procedure taken directly from the 1992 LS400 Repair Manual Hope this helps someone that may want to rebuild their power steering pump rather than have the stealership take a $ 1000 or so from you... 5ofakind power steering pump.pdf
  17. turbo, 1992 LS400 - I stopped by Bob Baker Lexus in El Cajon, CA yesterday & discussed with a service technician ( not a service writer - because they dont know s**t ) my 5 lights coming on ( battery indicator, Brake light, low level radiator light, low oil level light, & antilock light ) upon acceleration from a stop.. they will come one, maybe flicker & then would go off as my foot depresses the brake pedal when coming to a stop - odd. The service technician indicated that it may be alternator related... I discussed with him that a just replaced the battery ( due to a bad cell )& had the alternator rebuilt ( had bad diodes in the rectifier & a bad IC regulator )about a month ago... He said make sure of your connections on the back of the alternator....may have worked loose, check the plug on back of alternator that plugs into the IC regulator.... I mention the trunk lid wiring harness & the technician indicated that would cause a different set of problems but he did not elaborate...so he said to focus on battery & alternator.... I will check to see if I have a power steering leak that just started. When I installed the battery & alternator a month ago, I did not notice any leakage from the power steering pump at all. I will recheck but I dont think this is the case. I know my battery connections are tight with no corrosion. Keep me posted on what you find out....& I will do the same.....strange these lights are intermittently coming on....hard to troubleshoot......I hate electrical issues... 5ofakind
  18. Why not have your existing alternator rebuilt by a reputable auto electric shop. Remove yourself & take it in... Much cheaper & you retain yourself OEM alternator.... 5
  19. Installed new battery & alternator was rebuilt by a reputable auto electric shop about a month & half ago. Today, I noticed the battery light, brake light, low radiator level, low oil level, & antilocl indicator lights are coming on at the same time. It happens when I step on the gas pedal and moving forward. They stay on until I start to come to a stop. When I press on the brake pedal, all the 5 indicator lights go off. The cycle repeats itself. It just started today. Could this possibly be related to the infamous trunk lid wire harness problem or possibly an intermittent alternator problem again. If alternator, it is definitely going back to the shop that rebuilt it. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
  20. I have had the same problem with the limp mode from time to time...seems to be under your same conditions here in SoCal....hot day, low fuel.... My 1992 LS 400 with 270k miles may need a new fuel pump.....I will look into it.....makes sense to keep tank filled above 1/4
  21. Lexuses71, You are not effed ( whatever that means ) on a non-interference engine. No damage will result if the timing belt snaps. Only stranded & towed back to one's own garage for repair.......Replacement parts $200-300 ( water pump, belt, & idler bearings ) & one's own time & labor.......not $ 1,900 by some dealer that is ripping you off......a set of factory shop manuals will be the best money one ever spends on their Lexus......
  22. Steve & Slorick.....now thats funny......good one.......somethings a little humor goes a long way....these cars can be frustrating at times.....
  23. Slorick, Instead of oven cleaner....why not try muriatic acid.......that should work for you.......then get car re-painted.......pinstripes gone..........I am a pinstripe expert when it comes to suits for business......not cars......just having a little fun....no malice intended here...... Hope you can enjoy a joke..... 5
