  1. You might want to search prior posts but I remember reading that not useing the correct weight oil and NKG plugs your courting problems according to other owners who tried the same things and ended up with poor engine performance.
  2. It was a toss up between the SC and the LS. A nice '92 LS400 showed up first and some day a SC is going to join it. As for advice on upgrades I will have to go along with most of the others and say that you should keep it minimal. A set of OEM Lexus chrome wheels would dress it up, new OEM Lexus floor matts, tinted rear and side windows, lisence plate frames and replacing any worn/broken items on the exterior/interior. It might be a '92 but the SC is heads and shoulders above any of your friends newer cars. The 1st gen SC is a timeless classic and it really doesn't need much mods in my opinion.
  3. dave911911 you can run the cd cable from the headunit to the trunk following your LS400 wiring harness which is next to the doors on the floor pan. You will have to remove the plastic trim and door plate on the front and back doors and also remove the bolt that secures the seat belt from the "B" pillar, first removing the plastic cover (push down on cover). Next step is to remove the back seat cushions. A number of snaps secure the carpet to the vehicle, pull out the snaps and run the cable back under the carpet following the electrical harness as much as possible. You will find a hole near the rear shelf to snake the cable thru to the trunk. If you are installing a Nak subwoofer speaker this is the best time to do it with the seat cushions removed. Next location to work is the trunk. Remove your trunk carpets and spare tire, unscrew the carpeted cover on the face of the gas tank. The screws are located at the top next to the shelf attached to clips. At this point you should be able to see or feel the cable in the top corner of the trunk. The subwoofer amp is located in the left top corner of the trunk on the drivers side. With the gas tank carpeted cover removed you can also swap out your Pioneer amp for a Nak amp. The cd changer is now ready to be plugged in and played. Hope to have photos of install posted soon. Four Door.
  4. JD your Pioneer midrange and tweeter door speakers are 4 ohm and probably about 10-15 watts. The Nak speakers are 20 watts. If your going aftermarket amp you might as well go all the way and replace the door speakers, doubt the Pioneer speakers will be able to handle the watts.
  5. JD re your '94 LS400 Pioneer system good chance the subwoofer is 2 ohm and possibly your doorspeakers are 4 ohm if that helps. Not sure what you want to do but I just upgraded my '92 LS400 Pioneer system with no cd changer to a '92 Ls400 Nakamichi system with cd changer. Pioneersuby is the person to contact if your looking to upgrade your system with OEM Lexus audio equipment. He's working on a '94 LS400 now and you might want to do a post in the boards audio section. Four Door.
  6. Contact member "Pioneersuby" in the audio section. With his help I was able to change over my '92 LS400 Pioneer audio system with no cd changer to a '92 Nakamichi audio system with Lexus cd changer and I'm thrilled. Sure he can give you good advice. Four Door.
  7. Have to go along with the guys re no water under the hood, seems like thats why Lexus went to such an extreme to keep it dry in there. Just wiped it down with old towels and orange cleaner and it has stayed almost spotless only requiring touch up when it gets its weekly Saturday bath. Four Door.
  8. Re your power antenna my guess is it's "gunked up". Try cleaning it with a clean dry cloth and gradualy it will extend and retract the full length. Re what maintenance the LS400 needs might be answered by its service records from a Lexus dealer(computer printout), also check the maintenance records book that came with the owners manual. Another option is to take it to a Lexus dealer and have them do a full inspection (125 point) that they would do for a "certified" LS400, a fairly thorough inspection. Before I purchased my '92 LS400 I went thru all the maintenance records (Lexus dealer printout) and found that it had a complete service history and was all up to date and the next service was an oil change. I wouldn't dream of buying an LS400 or any other vehicle without knowing its service history. On top of that the vehicle looked spotless and the prior owner kept it garaged night and day.
  9. Another option is Tap Recycling, a CA salvage yard specializing in Toyota/Lexus vehicles. Check their website <taprecycling.com>.
  10. Willing to bet a used console cover from the salvage yard will be short money if the seat is $350. Probably be from the same salvage car and will match everything else.
  11. Had a similar problem, bulb was fine, the overhead light switch was making good contact (ground), I tightened it up and it has worked since.
  12. Sounds like you now have a Pioneer aftermarket headunit and an adapter to your speaker wires. Guessing the new head unit has an internal amp also. I would have the speakers checked to see if they are blown out, if they are ok I would recheck the wireing at the headunit. The subwoofer amp is located in the cornor of the trunk, drivers side next to the gas tank. The subwoofer speaker is in the rear shelf. Since you traded out your original head unit it is very possible their is no signal/power going to the subwoofer amp/subwoofer. Again you may have a wiring issue with the new headunit and it is questionable if it is compatable with the original equipment. From what I have read if you start changing audio equipment to aftermarket you may have to change over everything except the door speakers which are 4ohm. My preference would of been to stay with an all Lexus audio system and upgrade to a Lexus factory cd changer system.
  13. Might be able to help but need to know which headunit you have, Pioneer or Nakamichi, also does it have CD.
  14. Saw a post on another Lexus board with a photo of the speedo cranking at 165 MPH and don't doubt it for a second.
  15. If your buying wheels and want factory Lexus ask what the part number is, something sounds fishy about the white rims, ???aftermarket??? Four Door.
  16. Will update later this evening, upgraded my '92 LS400 Pioneer audio system with no cd changer to a '92 LS400 Nakamichi head unit with Lexus cd changer and it WORKS. Four Door.
  17. Flanker271 the head unit listed on Ebay does not have any cd controls or plug, check the face, am/fm1/fm2/tape, no cd. Four Door.
  18. Your description of your '92 LS400 audio system is confusing. If their is a cutout in the right side of the trunk I'd be willing to bet that your LS400 came with a cd changer and the original Lexus head unit had cd controls. Only way to know for sure is check the trunk and the dash for the plugs, three for the head unit and one in the trunk for the cd changer. Four Door.
  19. AlmightyLexus I bought the center caps from <willyworldus@yahoo.com>. Checked Ebay he doesn't have any LS400 center caps listed but you could ask him if he can find some for you. Also rechecked price I paid, $36.00 and $5.95 shipping, what a deal. Keep an eye on Ebay, but doubt you will find them that cheap. Four Door.
  20. Tire should be V rated but don't go lower then H rating.
  21. Tire should be V rated but don't go lower then H rating.
  22. AlmightyLexus I'm in the process of upgrading my "92 LS400 premium audio system (NO cd changer) to a Nakamichi audio system with cd changer. Got all the equipment from "Pioneersuby". Plan to do the install myself as soon as the weather brakes, but just had another snow storm in MA. Trying to avoid taking it to a mobile audio shop, not that I'm cheap, it's just that I don't want somone racing the clock and making a mess of my perfect interior. Also re the alarm system I would HIGHLY recommend you avoid it, also a remote starter etc. Don't let anyone touch your electrical system. Your asking for trouble, had a aftermarket alarm system in a car years ago and the car battery would be drained if I didn't start it every week, always dead at the airport parking garage. Went back to the place where I purchased alarm and they told me the installer no longer worked there and they had no idea how he wired it. Four Door.
  23. Almightylexus sounds like you got a cream puff from the Doc.
  24. Recently bought and sold a set of 93-94 LS400 center caps for my '92 LS400. My original center caps had gold emblems and did not match the rest of the cars silver emblems. Found a set of center caps with silver emblems on Ebay, cost me $50 with shipping, seller was in CA, center caps looked like new, was I happy and what a deal. Checked around for new ones and they can run around $50+ each. I sold my original 16" center caps with gold emblems on Ebay for $50 and broke even on the deal. Will check for name of seller on Ebay, looked like he specialized in wheel covers/center caps. Also I'll try to get you the part number, center caps have the same part number for either silver and gold emblems. Four Door.
  25. Re purchasing the LS400 follow the advice and have it checked out by a Lexus dealer, look at the service history, run a CarFax and also have it checked for body damage while your at it. Take your time, their are plenty of LS400s that are in excellent shape, don't settle for anything less. Four Door.
